Step 1 Setting Up the Machine Removing the Protective 1 Parts 1 2 Press and slide the paper guide to fit the paper width. Paper Side Guide Remove the protective tape. DO NOT connect the USB cable. Connecting the USB cable is done when installing the driver. 3 Pull out the paper support and unfold the paper support flap. Paper Support 2 1 3 Installing the Handset (MFC-620CN only) Paper Support Flap Connect the curled handset cord to the handset.
Connect the power cord. 2 Connect the telephone line cord. Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the jack on the MFC marked LINE and the other end to a modular wall jack. Windows® Network Windows® 1 If you are sharing one phone line with an external telephone, connect it as shown below. Warning If ink gets in your eyes wash them with water immediately, and if irritation occurs consult a doctor. 1 Make sure that the power is turned on. The LCD shows: No Cartridge 2 Lift the scanner cover from the right-hand side of the MFC until it locks securely into the open position. DO NOT touch the area shown in the illustration below.
7 Lift the scanner cover to release the lock. Gently push the scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover. If Install shows on the LCD after you install the ink cartridges, check to make sure the ink cartridges are installed correctly. The machine will clean the ink tube system for use for the first time. This process will occur only once, the first time ink cartridges are installed. The cleaning process will last approximately four minutes.
Step 1 6 1 Setting Up the Machine Print Quality Check 5 After the cleaning cycle is finished, the LCD shows: If all lines are clear and visible, press 1 on the dial pad to finish the quality check. ---OR--If you can see missing short lines, press 2 on the dial pad and go to 6. OK Poor Set Paper and Press Start 2 3 Make sure the paper is loaded in the paper tray. Press Color Start. The machine starts printing the PRINT QUALITY CHECK SHEET (only during initial ink cartridge installation).
You should store your name and fax number to be printed on all fax pages that you send. Press 0. 1 2 3 4 Press 2. Enter the last two digits of the year on the dial pad, and then press Menu/Set. (e.g. Enter 0 4 for 2004.) Press Menu/Set. Press 0. Press 3. Enter your fax number (up to 20 digits) on the dial pad, and then press Menu/Set. Gently push the scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover. A Turn on the machine by plugging in the power cord. It will take a few seconds for the installation screens to appear. The installation of the Brother drivers will automatically start. The installation screens appear one after another, please wait for a while.

Carefully route the network cable through the trench and out the back of the machine as shown below. Warning Ensure that the cable does not restrict the cover from closing, or an error may occur. In case of using both USB and LAN cables, route both cables through the trench. 3 Turn on the machine by plugging in the power cord. 4 Turn on your computer.

After the updates are installed your PC may restart. Then the installation will automatically continue. If the installation does not continue automatically, please open the main menu again by ejecting then reinserting the CD-ROM disc or double-click the setup.

For network installations the Repair MFL-Pro Suite selection from the main menu is not supported. The MFL-Pro Suite, Brother Network Printer driver, Network Scanner driver and Network PhotoCapture Center™ have been installed and the installation is now complete. ■ For Network Users Setting your IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway using BRAdmin Professional (Windows® only) 1 2 Start BRAdmin Professional, and select TCP/IP. 3 Double-click the new device. 4 Enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway, and then click the OK button. 5 The address information will be saved to the machine. Select Search Active Devices from the Devices menu. BRAdmin will search for new devices automatically. The default password for the print server is “access”.
