Step 1 1 Setting Up the MFC Removing the Protective Yellow Bar Do NOT connect the USB cable. Connecting the USB cable is done when installing the driver. 1 Open the control panel cover by pulling it toward you (1), and then lift the top cover toward the back (2). Top Cover Control Panel Cover 2 Pull the protective yellow bar out of the machine. Protective Yellow Bar Do not throw away the protective yellow bar. You will need it in the future to transport the machine.
1 Attaching the Paper Supports 4 Load Paper 1 Fan the stack of paper well to avoid paper jams and misfeeds. 2 Gently insert the paper. Make sure the print side is towards you and the paper is below the maximum paper mark. Attach the paper support to the paper tray. Setting Up the MFC 3 2 Attach the ADF document support.
Step 1 Setting Up the MFC 5 Install Phone Line and Power Cord 1 Connect the power cord. Power Cord Telephone Line Cord 2 Connect the telephone line cord. Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the jack on the MFC marked LINE and the other end to a modular wall jack. Do not connect the USB cable yet. Warning ■ The MFC must be grounded using a 3-prong plug.
5 Warning If ink gets in your eyes irrigate them with water immediately, and if irritation occurs consult a doctor. 1 Setting Up the MFC 6 Installing the Ink Cartridges Remove the white shipping cover by pulling it towards you. Make sure that the power is turned on. The LCD shows; 2 Open the control panel cover by pulling it toward you (1), then lift the top cover toward the back (2). The print heads will move to the ink replacement position.

Step 2 Installing the Driver & Software For Windows® 98/98SE/Me/2000 Professional Users Make sure that you have completed the instructions from Step 1 “Setting Up the MFC” on pages 2 to 9. 1 Unplug the MFC from the AC outlet and disconnect it from your computer, if you already connected an interface cable. 2 Turn on your computer. (For Windows® 2000 Professional, you must be logged on as the administrator.) 3 Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CDROM drive.
When the Choose Destination Location window displays the path where the PaperPort® files will be installed, either change or accept, and then click Next. When the Brother MFL Pro Suite Installation window appears, click Next.*2 *2 If an error message appears during the installation process, or if you have previously installed the MFL Pro Suite, you will first have to uninstall it.

I Click Finish to restart your computer. J After the computer restarts, click Yes to have the Control Center loaded each time Windows is started. The Control Center will appear as an icon in the task tray. If you click No the Scan keys on the MFC will be disabled.

A When the Registration screen is displayed, make your section and follow the on screen instructions. 8 After reading and accepting the License Agreement, enter your user information and click Next. B Click Finish to complete installation. 9 Select Typical and click Next. 0 Click Install and PaperPort® will start installing on your computer.
Setting Up the MFC E Select the folder where Setup will install the program files. If you do not wish to use the default directory, click the Browse button to select a new folder and then click Next to continue. F Select the program folder in which you wish to add the program icons, and then click Next. G If this screen appears, select the components to install (the default gives you the most functionality), and then click Next. . It will take a few seconds for the installation screen to appear.

The Brother PC fax, Printer and Scanner drivers have been installed and the installation is now complete. I If this screen appears, select the model of the machine which you want to use to send PC-Faxes then click OK. J Select “Yes” to restart your computer, and then click Finish.
Setting Up the MFC Installation of Brother Native Drivers For Windows® XP Click “Start” and select “Printers and Faxes”. L Click on “Add a printer” and the Add Printer Wizard will start. M When the above screen appears, click Next. N O Select “USB00x (Virtual printer port for USB)” from the pull down window for the Printer Port Selection and then click Next. P Click on Have Disk. Q Browse the CD-ROM for the “WXP” folder. Highlight the WXP folder and click Open.

Select Yes or No if you want this driver to be your default printer. S Make sure “X:\WXP\Addprt” is displayed in the window and click OK (X:\ is the drive letter of your CD-ROM). V If you see the following screen, select “Do not share this printer” and Next. W Select “Yes” and Next to print a test page.
Setting Up the MFC Y When the Windows Logo testing screen appears click Continue Anyway. This completes the installation of the Brother Native Driver. The Brother PC fax, Printer and Scanner drivers have been installed and the installation is now complete. There will be two Brother printer drivers listed in the Printers and Faxes selection. The driver without hyphen in the model name (Ex. Brother MFC3200) is the Brother Native Driver. 23 Windows® XP When the above screen appears click Finish.

ScanSoft™ TextBridge ®, which is integrated into PaperPort ®, is an OCR application that converts an image into text and inserts it into your default word processor.

Turn on your Macintosh®. Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CDROM drive.
