Quick Setup Guide Start Here MFC-9320CW Before using the machine, please read this Quick Setup Guide for the correct setup and installation. WARNING WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injuries.
WARNING • Plastic bags are used in the packaging of your machine. To avoid danger of suffocation, please keep these bags away from babies and children. • This machine is heavy and weighs approximately 22.9 kg. (50.5 lb). To prevent injuries use at least two people to lift the machine. Be careful not to pinch your fingers when you put the machine back down. Note Keep a minimum gap around the machine as shown in the illustration.
2 Remove the packing material from the machine 3 a IMPORTANT Install the drum unit and toner cartridge assemblies • Save all packing material and the carton in case you have to ship your machine. Unpack the four drum unit and toner cartridge assemblies and gently shake each of them from side to side several times to distribute the toner evenly inside the assembly. • DO NOT plug in the AC power cord yet. a b b Remove the packing tape from the outside of the machine.
c Slide all four of the drum unit and toner cartridge assemblies into the machine as shown in the illustration. Make sure that you match the toner cartridge colour to the same colour label on the machine. a 4 Load paper in the paper tray Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine. C M b Y K C - Cyan Y - Yellow M - Magenta K - Black d Close the top cover of the machine.
d 5 Put paper in the tray, and make sure that the paper is below the maximum paper mark a. The side to be printed on must be face down. Connect the power cord and telephone line IMPORTANT DO NOT connect the interface cable yet. a Make sure that the machine’s power switch is off. Connect the AC power cord to the machine. IMPORTANT Make sure the paper guides touch the sides of the paper so it will feed correctly. e Put the paper tray firmly back in the machine.
c Connect the telephone line cord. Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the socket on the machine marked LINE and the other end to a telephone wall socket. Note If you are sharing one telephone line with an external telephone, connect it as shown below. Before you connect the external telephone, remove the protective cap a from the EXT. jack on the machine. 1 2 1 IMPORTANT The telephone line cord MUST be connected to the socket on the machine marked LINE.
6 Set your country (for Australia/New Zealand customer only) You must set your country so that the machine works correctly on local telecommunication lines in each country. a 7 There are four possible receive modes: Fax Only, Fax/Tel, Manual and External TAD.
If you are having difficulty reading the LCD, try changing the contrast setting. a Press Menu, 1, 6. General Setup 6.LCD Contrast b 9 Set the LCD contrast (if needed) The machine displays the time, and if you set up the station ID the date and time will be added to each fax you send. a b Press a to increase the contrast. Press b to decrease the contrast. c Press Stop/Exit. Press Menu, 0, 2. Enter the last two digits of the year on the dial pad, and then press OK.
10 Enter personal information (station ID) You should store your name and fax number to be printed on all fax pages that you send. a b Press Menu, 0, 3. Enter your fax number (up to 20 digits) on the dial pad, and then press OK. Station ID Fax: c 11 Fax Transmission Report Your Brother machine is equipped with a Transmission Verification Report that can be used as confirmation that you sent a fax.
12 Set tone or pulse dialling mode (not available for New Zealand) Your machine comes set for Tone dialling service. If you have Pulse dialling service (rotary), you need to change the dialling mode. a Press Menu, 0, 4. Initial Setup 4.Tone/Pulse b c 13 The dial prefix setting will automatically dial a predefined number before every fax number you dial. For example: If your phone system requires a 9 to dial an outside number this setting will automatically dial 9 for every fax you send.
14 Automatic Daylight Savings Time You can set the machine to change automatically for daylight savings time. It will reset itself forward one hour in the Spring and backward one hour in the Autumn. a Press Menu, 1, 4. General Setup 4.Daylight Save b c Press a or b to choose On (or Off). Press OK. Press Stop/Exit.

USB Note Windows® g • For Windows Vista® and Windows® 7, when the User Account Control screen appears, click Allow or Yes. d Note When the ScanSoft™ PaperPort™ 11SE License Agreement window appears, click Yes if you agree to the Software License Agreement. If you want to install the PS driver (Brother’s BR-Script Driver), choose Custom Install and then follow the on-screen instructions.
USB 18 Connect the USB cable IMPORTANT Windows® 19 a • DO NOT connect the machine to a USB port on a keyboard or a non-powered USB hub. Connect the power cord Plug the AC power cord into an AC outlet. Turn the power switch on. • Connect the machine directly to your computer. a Remove the label covering the USB interface connector. The installation will continue automatically. The installation screens appear one after another. IMPORTANT DO NOT cancel any of the screens during the installation.
USB a Finish and restart Click Finish to restart your computer. After restarting the computer, you must be logged on with Administrator rights. Macintosh Windows® USB 20 Windows® Note If an error message appears during the software installation, run the Installation Diagnostics located in Start/All Programs/Brother/ MFC-XXXX (where MFC-XXXX is your model name). b If this screen appears, choose the firmware update setting and click OK. Note Internet access is required for the firmware upgrade.
USB Macintosh For USB Interface Users (Mac OS X 10.3.9 or greater) 16 a Before you install b Connect the USB cable to the USB connector on the machine marked with the symbol. Then connect the cable to your computer. Make sure your machine is connected to the power and your Macintosh is ON. You must be logged on with Administrator rights. USB c Choose Local Connection, and then click Next. Follow the on-screen instructions. Macintosh When Presto! PageManager is installed OCR capability is added to Brother ControlCenter2. You can easily scan, share and organize photos and documents using Presto! PageManager. Note a Double-click Presto! PageManager and follow the on-screen instructions. IMPORTANT • If there are any programs running, close them.
Wired Network 19 a Windows® Note Install MFL-Pro Suite • If the installation does not continue automatically, open the main menu again by ejecting and then reinserting the CD-ROM or double-click the Start.exe program from the root folder, and continue from step c to install MFL-Pro Suite. Put the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the model name screen appears, choose your machine. If the language screen appears, choose your language.
Wired Network g Windows® Choose Wired Network Connection, and then click Next. Note • You can find your machine’s IP address and the node name by printing out the Network Configuration List. See Print the Network Configuration List on page 46. • If your machine is not found over the network, the following screen will appear. This license supports the installation of the MFL-Pro Suite including ScanSoft™ PaperPort™ 11SE on up to 5 PCs on the network.

Wired Network d e Macintosh The Brother software will search for the Brother device. If the machine is configured for your network, choose the machine from the list, and then click OK. The installation of MFL-Pro Suite is now complete. Go to step 19 on page 26. 19 Install Presto! PageManager When Presto! PageManager is installed OCR capability is added to Brother ControlCenter2. You can easily scan, share and organize photos and documents using Presto! PageManager.
For Wireless Network Users For Wireless Network Interface Users 16 Before you begin First you must configure the wireless network settings of your machine to communicate with your network access point (router). After the machine is configured to communicate with your access point (router) computers on your network will have access to the machine. To use the machine from these computers, you will need to install the drivers and software.
For Wireless Network Users 17 Choose your wireless install method The following instructions will offer three methods for installing your Brother machine in a wireless network environment. Choose the method you prefer for your environment. Note To setup your machine in any other wireless environment, you can find instructions in the Network User's Guide.
For Wireless Network Users b Manual configuration from the control panel If your wireless router/access point does not support SecureEasySetup™, Wi-Fi Protected Setup or AOSS™, write down the wireless network settings of your wireless access point/router. IMPORTANT If you do not know this information (Network Name, WEP key, WPA2-PSK (Pre-Shared Key), LEAP or EAPFAST) you cannot continue the wireless setup.
Wireless Network Windows® Configuration using the Installation CD-ROM and temporarily using a USB cable (Windows® only) 18 Configure the wireless settings e For Windows® XP SP2 or greater/XP Professional x64 Edition/ Windows Vista®/ Windows® 7 users, when this screen appears, choose Change the Firewall port settings to enable network connection and continue with the installation. (Recommended) and click Next. IMPORTANT You need to temporarily use a USB cable during configuration (cable not included).
Wireless Network h i If this screen appears, read the Important Notice. Check the box after you confirm the SSID and Network Key, and then click Next. k Temporarily connect the USB cable (not included) directly to the computer and the machine. Windows® The wizard will search for wireless networks available from your machine. Choose the SSID that you wrote down for your network in step 17-a on page 28, and then click Next.
m Wireless Network Windows® p Click Next to continue to install MFL-Pro Suite. Enter the Network Key you wrote down in step 17-a on page 28 and then enter the key again in Confirm Network Key, then click Next. Wireless setup is now complete. A four level indicator at the right of your machine's LCD will show the wireless signal strength of your access point/router. To install MFL-Pro Suite, continue to step 20-j on page 39. Now go to page 39 n Click Next. The settings will be sent to your machine.
For Wireless Network Users Manual configuration from the control panel 18 a b Configure the wireless settings f On your machine, press Menu, 7 (Network), 2 (WLAN), 2 (Setup Wizard). Press 1 to choose On. The machine will search for available SSIDs. If a list of SSIDs is displayed, use a or b to choose the SSID you wrote down in step 17-b on page 29, then press OK. Go to step f. Note It will take several seconds to display a list of available SSIDs.
For Wireless Network Users h Press a or b to choose TKIP or AES for Encryption Type? and press OK. Enter the WPA/WPA2-PSK password you wrote down in step 17-b on page 29 using the dial pad to choose each letter or number. For example, to enter the letter a, press the 2 key on the dial pad once. To enter the number 3, press the 3 key on the dial pad seven times. The letters appear in this order: lower case, upper case and then numbers.
For Wireless Network Users One push configuration using SecureEasySetup™, Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ or AOSS™ 18 a b c d Configure the wireless settings Confirm your wireless router or access point has the SecureEasySetup™, Wi-Fi Protected Setup or AOSS™ symbol as shown below. Place the Brother machine within range of a SecureEasySetup™, Wi-Fi Protected Setup or AOSS™ access point/router. The range may differ depending on your environment. Refer to the instructions provided with your access point/router.
For Wireless Network Users Wireless setup is now complete. To install MFL-Pro Suite, continue to step 19.

For Network Users Web Based Management (web browser) Print the Network Configuration List The Brother print server is equipped with a web server that allows you to monitor its status or change some of its configuration settings, using HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). You can print the Network Configuration List to confirm the current network settings. To print the Network Configuration List: Note • The User Name is ‘admin’ and the default password is ‘access’.
For Network Users Entering Text for Wireless Settings Most number keys have three or four letters printed on them. The keys for 0, # and l do not have printed letters because they are used for special characters. By pressing the proper number key repeatedly, you can access the character you want.
