OIL AND FUEL
OILING SYSTEM
If the oil hose is disconnected for any reason,
seal it to prevent spillage. Install a cap on the
hose fitting to prevent contamination.
You must use an oil tank equipped with a filter
and an oil supply hose. The oil system must
be purged if air is in the oil supply hose. Refer
to Priming the Oil System on page 17.
Install the oil tank following the instructions
provided with the unit.
IMPORTANT: Consider the installation loca-
tion of the oil tank carefully. The oil tank is
vented to the atmosphere. To avoid serious
powerhead damage, be sure the oil tank is in-
stalled in a location that does not allow con-
stant exposure to sunlight, rain, bilge water, or
spray. Periodically inspect the oil tank for evi-
dence of water.
FILLING THE OIL TANK
Remove the filler cap and fill the tank with rec-
ommended outboard lubricant, as specified in
Oil Requirements on page 18. Replace the
filler cap and tighten securely.
Always keep a supply of oil in the tank. If you
run the tank empty, you MUST purge the oil
system of air before using the engine.
PRIMING THE OIL SYSTEM
IMPORTANT: To avoid engine damage from
lack of lubrication, the oil system must be
primed. Confirm the oil supply hose connec-
tion is airtight. Anytime the oil supply hose has
been disconnected, you must prime the oil
system to remove any air in the system before
reconnecting the hose and operating the out-
board.
Squeeze oil primer bulb until steady stream of
oil comes from the supply hose. Connect oil
supply hose to the oil inlet fitting. Secure with
the small clamp (13.8 mm) from owner’s kit.

2. Oil inlet fitting
After securing connection, squeeze oil primer
bulb again until solid oil appears in all six indi-
vidual oil lines entering the crankcase.
If the “LOW OIL” warning light illuminates,
you have approximately five hours of normal
operation before running out of oil when us-
ing TC-W3RL oil. If using Evinrude/Johnson
XD100™ oil, you have approximately ten
hours of normal operation remaining. Refill
the oil tank at next convenient opportunity.
IMPORTANT: Always “top off” your oil tank
prior to prolonged usage or long trips.
IMPORTANT: When operating in conditions
under 32°F (0°C), Evinrude/Johnson XD100
oil must be used.
The oiling system must be primed before re-
using the outboard if:
• You run completely out of oil;
• The oil supply hose is disconnected; or
• The outboard is laid down for transportation
or storage.
