Ignition Positions

E
With the key in the ignition switch, you can
turn
the
switch to five different positions:
ACCESSORY
(A):
This
position lets you use things
like the radio and the windshield wipers when the
sngine is off.
To
use this position, push in the key and
turn it toward you. Your steering wheel will remain
locked, just as it was before you inserted the key.
LOCK
(B):
Before you put the key in, your ignition
will be
in
the
LOCK
position. With a steering column
shift lever,
this
position locks your ignition, steering
wheel and transaxle. With the console shift lever, this
position locks your ignition and steering wheel. It’s a
theft-deterrent feature.
OFF
(C):
This position lets you turn
off
the engine but
still
turn
the steering wheel. It doesn’t lock the steering
wheel like
LOCK.
Use
OFF
if you must have your car
in motion while the engine is
off.
RUN
(D):
This position is where the key returns after
you start your engine and release the switch. The switch
stays in
RUN
when the engine is
running.
But even
when the engine
is
not running, you can use RUN to
operate your electrical power accessories.
START
(E):
This key position starts your engine. When
the engine starts, release the key. The ignition switch
will return to
RUN
for driving.
Note that even
if
the engine is not running,
ACCESSORY
and
RUN
are positions that allow you to
operate your electrical accessories, such as the radio.
