Installation Guide

NOTE: Excessive moisture may cause the growth of unhealthy mold or mildew and/or cause staining of the Ňooring
which is not covered by our Warranty.
Wood SubŇoors:
PlanŬs ĐĂŶ be installed over a smooth,ŇĂt, level wood subŇŽor, underlayment grade plywood, lauan plywood, and other wood
underlayment’s reĐŽŵmended by the manufĂĐturer for use with a ŇŽaƟng planŬ ŇŽor. SubŇŽor should beŇĂt within 3/16” in a 10
foot radius. Wood subŇŽors must be suspended at least 18" above the ground. Adequ
ate ĐƌŽss-venƟůaƟon must be provided, and
the ground surfĂĐĞof theĐƌawl spĂĐĞshould beĐovered with a suitable moisture barrier. If installing over an exisƟng woodŇŽor,
theŇŽoring must be aƩĂĐhed to the exisƟng subŇŽor with nails or adhesive. ŇŽaƟng Ňoor is not an aĐĐep table subŇŽor for this
produĐƚ. If installing over a Đrawl spĂĐĞ a minimum 6 mil polyethylene moisture barrier must be used over the ground surfĂĐĞŝn the
ĐƌĂǁl spĂĐĞ
NOTE: Avoid subŇoors with excessive verƟĐĂl movement or de
Ňec
ƟŽn because subŇoor movement may cause the
locking mechanism to wear down, or even break. IndicĂƟŽns of excessive deŇecƟŽn are subŇoor fastener release,
squeaking, compromised or secƟŽnal contours such as bowing or dipping in Ňoors and uneven Ňooring material. Nail or
screw subŇoor panels to secure boards with excessive vertical movement or deŇecƟŽn prior to installĂƟŽn of the
Ňooring material. Our warranƟĞƐKNOT cover any problems caused by inadequate substructures or improper
installĂƟŽn of substructures.
ExisƟng Flooring:
HDPC vinyl planŬsĐan be installed over a variety ofĮnishedŇŽors inĐůƵding single layer resilient sheet ŇŽoring/ Ɵle,ĐeramŝĐ marble
and terrazzo. The surfĂĐĞmust be in goodĐondŝƟon and show no signs ofĞdžĐessive moistureĐondŝƟons. Grout joints and heavy
embossing in Ɵůe or vinyl must be leveled so they areŇush with theŇŽoring surfĂĐĞddŝƟonally the Ɵůe may require several sŬŝŵ
ĐŽats to aĐhieve aŇĂt surfĂĐĞ Carpet, heavily
Đushioned vi
nyl Ňoors or vinyl ŇoorsĐonsisƟng of muůƟple layers are NOT a suitable
subŇŽor for installaƟŽn.
Radiant Heat SubŇoors:
HDPC vinyl planŬs ĐĂn be installed over in-ŇŽor radiant heaƟng systems provided the subŇŽor surfĂĐĞ does not edžĐeed 85°F (29.44°C)
at any point. The inŝƟal ŇŽor temperature should not edžĐeed 70°F (21.11°C) for 24 hours prior, during, and 48 hours aŌer installaƟŽn.
ThereaŌĞƌthe temperature should be gradually inĐƌeased to the desired seƫng up to 85°F
(29.44°C). BeĐĂuse heat does aīeĐƚ
plasƟĐ more than wood, you may need addŝƟonal room for expansion (larger expansion gap) andĐontraĐƟon (wider base to allow
for ĐŽntraĐƟon) Radiant heaƟng systems that are installed direĐƚůy on top of the subŇŽor surfĂĐĞare not reĐŽmmended.
Important Notes:
Before removing any exisƟng resilient Ňooring or Ɵůes, please consult with a ŇŽŽring professional to
determine if asbestos abatement is necessary to avoid exposure. See current ediƟŽn o
f the Resilient Floor Covering
InsƟtute (RFCI) publicĂƟŽn “Recommended Work PracƟces for Removal of Resilient Floor Coverings” for detailed
informĂƟŽn and instrucƟŽns on removing all resilient covered structures. The products in this carton DO NOT contain
asbestos or crystalline silica.
Moisture Barrier and Underlayment:
While it is not neĐessarily diĸĐƵůt to install a ŇŽaƟng Ňoor, you may want toĐonsider having it done by a professional installer.
PlanŬs have an aƩĂĐhed padding so no addŝƟo
nal padding is required or reĐŽmmended. InstallaƟŽns over a ĐŽnĐƌete slab; a
moisture barrier is reĐŽmmended but not required, and shouldĐonsist of at least a 6 mil polyethyleneĮlm with the sheets
overlapping 6” and taped to prevent moisture migraƟŶg to theŇŽoring.
Pre-installĂƟŽn inspecƟŽn:
It is the duty of the person installing theŇŽor to inspeĐƚ all ŇŽoring before installaƟŽn. If during inspeĐƟon the insta ller or buyer
feels theŇŽors is the wrong Đolor, improperly manufĂĐtured, is oī-grade or is the wrong gloss
level, he/she should NOT install the
ŇŽoring. Please immediately ĐontaĐƚ the retailer from whŝĐh theŇŽoring was puƌĐhased. NoĐůaims will the aĐĐ
epted for ŇŽŽring
whŝĐŚ is visibly wrong if suĐh ŇŽoring is installed. Installed Ňooring is deemed to be visibly acceptable.
