Device Management Page 9 SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series
The SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series consists of a
6 and 14 module chassis, an Environmental
module, a Flexible Network Bus (FNB), a high
speed Internal Network Bus (INB), and over 30
different types of modules. Depending on the
modules installed, the SmartSwitch 9000 will
support the technologies listed below. The
modules associated with these technologies are
explained in their respective section.

The SmartSwitch 9000/9500 utilizes a packet-
and cell- switching backplane to transfer
information throughout your network. Figure 1
shows a representation of the relationship
between the front panel interfaces and the
backplane for each module installed in the
SmartSwitch 9000/9500 chassis.
The components that make up the backplane are:
The FNB consisting of two dual FDDI
networks; the FNB1 and the FNB2
The INB which is divided into two channels;
INB1 and INB2
