SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series This section describes the Chassis and Modules that makeup the SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series. Overview Figure 1: The SmartSwitch 9000/9500 (Figure 1) consists of a chassis that can support up to 14 modules, an Evironmental module, a Flexible Network Bus, a high speed Internal Network Bus, and over 30 different types of modules.
SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series The SmartSwitch 9000 utilizes a packet- and cellswitching backplane to transfer information throughout your network. Figure 2 shows a representation of the relationship between the front panel interfaces and the backplane for each module installed in the SmartSwitch 9000 chassis.
SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series Module Descriptions Ethernet MicroLAN Switch Modules The following modules are available for the SmartSwitch 9000 Series: The Ethernet MicroLAN Switch Module is a four channel Ethernet to FDDI bridge. Up to three front panel Ethernet networks can be connected to this module. These networks can be bridged to any other Ethernet or FDDI segment, and to any other MMAC-Plus card via the FNB bus.
SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series Ethernet SmartSwitch INB Modules Ethernet SmartSwitch INB 2 Modules The Ethernet SmartSwitch INB Modules are 24port and 36-port Ethernet switching modules that provide 24 or 36 Ethernet networks with connectivity to the SmartSwitch 9000 Internal Network Bus (INB 2). They feature 24 or 36 10Base-T front panel ports supported by RJ-71 style connectors.
SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series Fast Ethernet INB Modules • The 9H423_28 is a single module offering connectivity for 24 switched Ethernet segments and up to four switched Fast Ethernet connections. It supports media flexibility for both Fiber Optic Fast Ethernet backbone and Twisted Pair server/workstation connections.
SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series FDDI Switch Module FDDI Repeater Modules The FDDI Switch Module (9F116-01) is a two-port FDDI bridge used to connect an external FDDI network with one of the two FDDI networks, Flexible Network Bus (FNB) 1 or FNB 2; or to connect between FNB 1 and FNB 2 on the FNB backplane.
SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series TR MicroLAN Switch Modules Token Ring SmartSwitch Module The 9T122-08 and 9T122-24 TR MicroLAN Switch Modules provide connectivity to two Token Ring networks through the Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) backplane in the chassis. The TR MicroLAN Switch Module’s single 24-port Token Ring, or two 12-port Token Rings use standard RJ-45 connectors supporting either Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) or Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) lobe wiring.
SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager SmartSwitch 9000/9500 Series SmartCell Switches Carrier Module The 9A656-04 SmartCell switch module is a single-slot, hot-swappable modules for the SmartSwitch 9000.
