Wildcards (applies wildcard capability to) a list attribute, an attribute that

can have more than one instance in the conﬁguration. List attributes are

identiﬁed in the Insertable Attribute list by a question mark to the right of

the attribute name.

The Wild Attr. button is enabled only if you have selected a list attribute

instance in the conﬁguration attribute list.

A wildcarded list attribute in a conﬁguration enables you to load the same

value into many instances of the attribute in a device, with one instance of

the attribute in the conﬁguration. This reduces the number of instances of a

list attribute you may need in a conﬁguration.

To wildcard a list attribute:

1. Add the list attribute to the attribute conﬁguration list.

2. Select View by Sequence from the View menu. (If you do not select

this view, ECM places the wildcarded attribute at the top of the list of

instances for this attribute when you wildcard the attribute.)

3. Select an instance of the attribute in the conﬁguration list after the

instances whose values you want to remain unique.

4. Click on Wild Attr. or type a star in the value ﬁeld and click on

Update.

5. Remove the instances you no longer need, using the Cut button.

After you have wildcarded a list attribute instance, an asterisk appears to

the right of the attribute instance name in the conﬁguration list, indicating

that it is now a wildcarded attribute. For more information on the wildcard

You can wildcard not only a list attribute but also a device component. See

the Wild Comp. button description.
