Custom or Auto Installation?

Before you begin the installation, determine whether you should perform a

custom or auto installation. A custom installation allows you to modify the

following defaults during the installation process:

• Should Load operations be performed with Safe Load on? = Yes

• Should ECM store (save) a backup device conﬁguration before performing

a Safe Load? = Yes

• Should ECM display device-speciﬁc (instead of shared) conﬁgurations

ﬁrst? = Yes

• Should the Save operation create a new template/conﬁguration with a new

version number instead of overwriting the existing template/

conﬁguration? = Yes

• Should the conﬁgurations/templates in a landscape be displayed in an

expanded format? = Yes

• SpectroSERVER timeout value = 100000

• The timeout interval for SpectroSERVER to establish a connection = 20

seconds

If you are installing only the SG component of ECM:

• Landscape used for locating conﬁgurations and templates, for saving

conﬁgurations and templates, and for locating device models = 0x400000

If you are installing both the SS and SG component of ECM:

• Landscape used for locating conﬁgurations and templates, for saving

conﬁgurations and templates, and for locating device models = your local

landscape

During the installation process, you specify the type of installation by either

selecting or not selecting the Enable custom script prompting option in

the Installation Conﬁguration dialog box. (See Figure A-1.)

NOTE

You can also change the default settings after ECM is installed. The ECM

Preferences dialog box allows you to deﬁne the Safe Load, Save, and display

settings for the current session. If you want to change the default settings

permanently, you have to modify the ECM resource ﬁle Ecm. See

Appendix B.
