Configuring System Settings
In addition to the initial settings described in the Getting Started Guide, there are additional system
features you can set on the XP.
Setting Daylight Saving Time
You can set daylight saving time (DST) on the XP in three different ways:
According to specific days. For example, from the first Sunday of April to the last Saturday of
October.
According to specific dates. For example, from April 1
st
to October 31
st
.
By setting the XP’s time forward by an hour.
When you specify the system set dst-changing command or the system set dst-fixed command in
the active configuration file, the XP automatically updates the time based on the parameters you
enter. When a time change occurs, the XP automatically sends an informational message about the
change. Enter one of the following commands in Configure mode to set DST according to specific
days or dates:
When you set DST by setting the time forward by an hour, saving it to the active configuration file
automatically activates the command and causes the time to move forward one hour. Use the
negate command to set the time back. Enter the following command in Configure mode to move
the time forward by an hour:
Configuring a Log-in Banner
Configure the XP to display a banner when it is booted up. You can specify a text string or the name
of a file on a TFTP server.
Set DST according to specific days.
system set dst-changing s_wk <value> s_dow <value>

Set DST according to specific dates.
system set dst-fixed s_mo <value> s_day <value> s-hr
