This command writes the desired head and cylinder of the selected drive with a vendor unique
pattern. To remain host backward compatible, the drive expects a sector buer of data from the
host to follow the command with the same protocol as the Write Sector(s) command although the
information in the buer is not used by the drive. If LBA=1 then the number of sectors to format is
taken from the Sec Cnt register (0=256).

The Identify Drive command in Table 5-15 enables the host to receive parameter information from
the drive. This command has the same protocol as the Read Sector(s) command. The parameter
words in the buer have the arrangement and meanings dened in Table 5-16. All reserved bits or
words are zero. Table 5-16 is the denition for each eld in the Identify Drive Information.
