3401 Manual
Point I/O Stepper Module
Revision 2.0
Installing the 3401 module in an Ethernet system
10. Create or open a new Ladder Logic program.
11. If it does not already exist, add an Ethernet bridge module to the rack configuration. For example
the 1756-ENET/B module.
12. Enter the IP address, for example 192.168.001.002, and then click on Finish >> to accept the
configuration.
13. Right click on the 1756-ENET/B module and then select New Module.
14. Select the 1734-AENT/A from the list of modules that appears. The Module Properties window
will open. Enter the following parameters.
Name: Your Choice, but it must begin with a letter
Description: Your Choice
Comm Format: Rack Optimization or None
IP Address: Except for the last three digits, it must match the IP address entered in step 3 above.
The last three digits must match the node number entered on the 1734-AENT/A
adapter.
Chassis Size: One plus the number of Point I/O modules attached to the 1734-AENT/A.
(If adding the 3401 module to an existing system, the Chassis Size parameter must
also be modified on the Chassis Size tab of the 1734-AENT/A module. After
changing and downloading the chassis size, go online, select the chassis tab, and
click on “Set Chassis Size in Module.”)
15. If the Comm Format was set to None, click on Finish>> to accept the configuration. If the
Comm Format above was set to Rack Optimization, click on Next> and set the RPI time for the
discrete I/O modules in your system, and then click on Finish>> to accept the configuration.
16. Right click on the 1734-ENET/B module and then select New Module.
17. Select the 1734-Module as the module type. The description will be Generic 1734 module. The
Module Properties window will open. Enter the following parameters.
Name: Your choice, but it must begin with a letter
Description: Your choice
Comm Format: Data-INT (must be Data-INT)
Slot: Location of the AMCI 3401 module. Slot 1 will be located directly to the right of the
1734-AENT/A adapter.
Connection Parameters:
18. Click on Next and select the RPI time. Because the AMCI 3401 is a Specialty I/O module, it will
only use direct connections to communicate with the scanner module. Although any value down
to 3ms can be selected, AMCI does not recommend values below 10ms. Additionally, to avoid
overloading the 1734-AENT adapter, AB recommends that a RPI time of 50ms or greater be used
for all direct communication modules.
19. The other pages of the Module Properties window are not used by the AMCI 3401 module. Click
on Finish>> to complete the installation.
