Roof Covering — Number of Shingles

You’re going to use 12-inch wide by 36-inch long asphalt (strip) shin-

gles with 5-inch weather exposure. How many shingles are required for

a roof measuring 1,745 square feet? Add a 10% waste allowance.

þþ Note: Shingle Exposure Area = exposure x length, plus Number

of Shingles = roof area ÷ shingle exposure area.
