Standard vs. High-Cut

In general, we recommend the “Standard” models for heights of 1.25” and below, and the “High-Cut”

models for 1.25” and above – which is most often for northern / cool season grasses Kentucky blue, Rye,

Fescue and the various blends. However, some people have Zoysia and like to maintain it at around 1.5”

so the 7-blade / High-Cut models are good for that.

5 vs. 7-Blade - A 5-blade reel is effective for tall cool season (northern) grasses that are maintained at 1-1/2” to 2”, while a 7-blade reel is effective for warm season (southern) grasses that are maintained below 1-1/2”. - Also, the 5-blade reel - since it has 2 less cutting edges and wider spacing than a 7 - handles taller grass better so it can provide a bit less frequent mowing. The 7 blade is more effective for denser grass.
