There are several advantages. First, this adds a little weight to the front of the mower which is desirable for rougher yards. It also makes the blade cut at the highest contour of the yard and prevents the casters from dipping into flower beds.

However, if your blades are in good shape and you want to fine tune (sharpen) the bed knife to reel orientation, this is a good solution. It requires some patience but good instructions are included.
