WARNING:Local codes must be followed to calculate the maximum number of PV modules allowed for a
maximum inverter open circuit voltage (OCV) of 600V DC in extreme cold temperatures for the installation
location.
Theopen circuitvoltage of PVmodules depends onthe cell temperature and the solar irradiation.Thehighest
open circuit voltage occurs when the PV modules are at the coldest temperature and in bright sun.(See the
followingfigure–Fig.7.5)

Because PVmodules also have a reduction involtage athigh cell temperatures,you must make suretheMPP voltageof the
stringswillnotdropbelowtheminimuminverterDCinputvoltageof230VDCinveryhottemperatureconditions,includingwire
lossesandvoltagedropinorder
toavoidreducedsystemperformance.
Boththemaximum opencircuitvoltage(OCV)whenat coldextremeandminimumMPPvoltagewhenathot extremecan be
calculatedforaPVmoduleusingitsspecificationsheet.SolectriaRenewables’onlinePVmodulestringsizingtoolcanthenbe
usedtodeterminehowmany
modulescanbeusedinastring.
