1. Important Safety Instructions To ensure the safe operation of this device, be sure to read the safety warnings and precautions described below. ❏ Installation Location The performance of this device is affected by the environment in which it is installed. Make sure that the location where the device is installed meets the following environmental requirements. ● Provide adequate space around the device for operation, maintenance, and ventilation. At least 15.
● Do not pull directly on the power cord. When disconnecting the power cord, grasp the plug and remove it from the outlet. ● Keep the area around the power plug clear of objects so that the power cord can be disconnected easily in an emergency. ● Use only the AC adapter provided with this device. Also, do not use the AC adapter provided with any other electrical devices.
■ Do not drop the device, or subject it to impact or strong shock. Should the device ever become damaged, immediately turn the power OFF, and disconnect the power plug from the power outlet. Then, contact your local authorized Canon dealer or service representative to have the unit serviced. ■ Before moving the device, make sure to turn the power OFF, and disconnect the power plug from the power outlet.
❏ About the Fingerprint Sensor (ScanFront 220eP only) ● The following actions may damage the sensor or cause it to malfunction: – Dropping an object on the fingerprint sensor, or otherwise subjecting it to a strong impact – Scratching the surface of the fingerprint sensor, or poking it with a pointed object – Pressing a hard object such as a fingernail or metal item against the fingerprint sensor, resulting in scratches being created on the surface of the fingerprint sensor – Touching the fingerprint sensor

Names and Functions of Parts The names and functions of the parts of the ScanFront 220e/220eP are shown below. ❏ Front and Document Feed and Eject Trays ScanFront 220e ScanFront 220eP a Power Switch Use this to turn the power ON/OFF. b Power Indicator Lights when the power is ON. c Lock Lever Locks the panel unit. Pull the lever toward you to unlock the panel unit. d Document Feed Tray Pull out the feed tray to match the length of the document.
❏ Side and Rear k Kensington Slot This is an anti-theft slot that enables a key chain or lock to be connected to prevent theft. l PS/2 Connector (Green) Connect a PS/2 mouse. m PS/2 Connector (Purple) Connect a PS/2 keyboard. n LAN Port (RJ-45) Connect an RJ-45 (10Base-T/100Base-TX) compatible network cable. o USB Ports Connect a USB1.1/Hi-Speed USB2.0 compatible USB flash drive, USB keyboard, or USB mouse. p Power Connector (16 V DC) Connect the plug of the supplied AC adapter.

4. Removing the Packing Materials and Attaching the Feed Roller Remove all of the packing materials protecting the device, and attach the feed roller. 1. Remove the orange tape (3 pieces) securing the outer case. CAUTION The open/close movement of the panel unit is linked to the up/ down movement of the document eject tray. Do not press on the document eject tray when you open the panel unit. 2. Gently open the document eject tray. 4. Remove the orange tape (2 pieces) securing the roller covers. 3.
5. Open the roller cover for the feed roller. 8. Move the lock lever in the direction of the arrow, then insert it into the hole in the feed roller. 6. Lift up the roller lock lever a, and slide it in the direction of the arrow b. 7. Align the notch in the shaft of the roller with the shaft of the device, and place the feed roller into position. 14 9. Lower the roller lock lever to lock the feed roller into position. 10. Close the roller cover.
11. Gently close the panel unit. Press on both sides of the unit until you hear a click, which indicates the unit is locked. 12. Gently close the document eject tray.
5. Connecting the AC Adaptor and Connecting to a Network Before setting up the device, you need to connect the AC adaptor and network cable. ❏ Connecting the AC Adapter Follow the procedure shown below to connect the AC adapter. CAUTION Make sure to use only the AC adapter and power cord included with the device. The shape of the plug and outlet shown may vary depending on your country or region. a Connect the power cord and AC adapter. b Insert the plug of the AC adapter into the power connector.
6. Turning the Power ON and OFF Use the power switch to turn the device ON and OFF. ❏ Turning the Power ON ❏ Turning the Power OFF Press the power switch to turn the device ON. The power indicator lights, and the Startup Menu screen appears. Press and hold the power switch until the device shuts down. IMPORTANT Power switch Startup Menu screen Power indicator When restarting the device, wait at least 5 seconds after turning the power OFF before turning it ON again.
7. Establishing the Connection between the Device and ShareScan Services Manager In order to use the device, you must first install ShareScan Services Manager on a computer that is connected to the same network as the device. This section describes the procedure for installing Services Manager on the computer and establishing a connection with the device. This section also describes how to install Quick Connect.
3. Click [Install ShareScan]. ❏ Entering the Product Key Licensing the Device After installing Services Manager on the computer, start ShareScan Administration (the administration tool for Services Manager) and enter the product key to license the device. Hint 4. Select a language and click [OK]. Refer to the supplied information sheet on how to obtain the eCopy ShareScan product key, and obtain the product key beforehand (requires Internet connection).
4. Double-click the computer under the tree to expand it, and click [Licensing] under [System Information]. ❏ Configuring and Registering the Device After setting up the computer on which Services Manager is installed, configure the necessary settings on the device and register the device on the computer. 1. Turn the device ON. The Startup Menu for the device appears. Hint You can change the display language using the pull-down menu at the top right of the Startup Menu.
2. Set the administrator password. Hint If you press [Next] without entering a password, the password will be left unconfigured and password entry will not be required for starting the device. To ensure security, we recommend configuring the password. 3. Configure network settings for the device. Enter the password in the [Password] box, and reenter it in the [Confirm Password] box to confirm. After entering the password, press [Next]. The network configuration screen appears.
Primary DNS / Secondary DNS Enter the DNS address of the network to which the device will be connected. The [Secondary DNS] setting is optional. For details, contact your network administrator. Primary WINS / Secondary WINS If the network to which the device will be connected includes WINS servers, enter the WINS server addresses as necessary. The [Primary WINS] and [Secondary WINS] settings are optional. For details, contact your network administrator.
9. Click [Activate Now]. The [Product Key Information] dialog box closes, and the product key that you entered is activated via the Internet. When activation is complete, the device is registered under [Devices] in the device tree. above procedure. In such cases, you must configure settings to permit passage of the device through the firewall. For details, refer to the operating instructions for the computer or related documents, or contact your network administrator.
8. Configuring ShareScan Services Manager After connection between the ScanFront and eCopy ShareScan Services Manager is established, you can configure the various settings of eCopy ShareScan and QuickConnect to suit your requirements. For details, please refer to the eCopy ShareScan 4.5 Installation and Setup Guide (electronic manual).
9. Documents The ScanFront can scan documents in a range of sizes from business cards to LTR/A4. It is possible to feed documents of the following sizes and thicknesses depending on the feeding method used. ❏ Plain Paper Size Width: 2" to 8 1/2" (50.8 mm to 216 mm) Length: 2 1/8" to 14" (53.9 mm to 355.
❏ Plastic Card Size 2.12" × 3.37" (53.9 × 85.5 mm) (Conforming to ISO7810 Standards) Thickness 0.0299" (0.76 mm) and below Insertion orientation Landscape CAUTION A plastic card placed into the document feed tray in the portrait orientation may not be output properly because a load is placed on it during feeding. Furthermore, removing a card that has caused a feeding error may damage the card, so make sure to correctly insert the card.
10. Preparing the Device When placing a document in the device, pull out the document feed tray so that it matches the size of the document, and then move the feed selection lever to the appropriate position for the desired feed method (page separation feeding or bypass feeding) for the document. ❏ Preparing the Document Feed Tray and Eject Tray Prepare the trays in accordance with the type of document. 1. Open the document eject tray a. 2.
❏ Feed Selection Lever ❏ USB Port Change the position of the lever to the desired feed method for the document. Page Separation Feeding Move the lever downward to separate a stack of documents one page at a time in order to continuously feed the documents. Bypass Feeding Move the lever upward to feed a document with multiple pages attached together such as an invoice one page at a time without separating the pages.
❏ Using a PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse You can connect a PS/2 keyboard and mouse to the PS/2 port and use them to operate the device. Green (Top): Mouse Purple (Bottom): Keyboard IMPORTANT Turn OFF the device before connecting or disconnecting the PS/2 mouse and keyboard.
11. Placing Documents When placing documents into the device, place them face down into the tray with the top edge of the document at the bottom of tray. ❏ Placing a Document Follow the procedure below to place a document. 3. Place the document face down with its top edge at the bottom of the tray. 1. Adjust the document guides to be wider than the width of the document. 4. Adjust the document guides to fit the width of the document. 2.
3. Place the card face down in the landscape orientation IMPORTANT Up to 50 sheets of ordinary paper can be loaded into the document feed tray. When placing the document, make sure the size of stack does not exceed the loading marks on the document guides. 12. Clearing a Paper Jam or Double Feed Error If a paper jam or double feed error occurs, feeding and scanning operations are paused, and an error screen similar to the following appears. IMPORTANT • If double feed errors occur repeatedly, reduce the number of sheets you place in the document feed tray to about 10. • A dirty or worn feed roller, or documents stuck together as a result of static electricity are common causes of paper jams or double feed errors. If the feed roller is dirty, clean it.
CAUTION The open/close movement of the panel unit is linked to the up/ down movement of the document eject tray. Do not press on the document eject tray when you open the panel unit. 3. Pull out the jammed document in the direction that seems the easiest to remove it. 4. Close the panel unit and then place the document again.
13. Fingerprint Sensor (ScanFront 220eP) The ScanFront 220eP is equipped with a fingerprint sensor for registering fingerprints and authenticating users. The fingerprint sensor is a precision component. Be careful when handling this sensor. ❏ Cautions for Handling the Fingerprint Sensor Fingerprint Sensor ● The following actions may damage the fingerprint sensor or cause it to malfunction. Read this information carefully to avoid damaging the sensor.
❏ Fingerprint Authentication ● Follow the procedure below to use fingerprint registration and authentication. 1. Align the first joint of a finger on the sensor and press the finger on the fingerprint sensor. 2. Keep the finger pressed while slowly sliding it straight at a constant speed to scan the fingerprint. ● Authentication performance may improve if the condition of the fingerprint is improved as a result of washing your hands or applying hand cream.
14. Basic Scanning Procedure This section describes the basic procedure for scanning documents using the device. Based on the type of connector installed on the Services Manager PC, you can send scanned data to other computers and devices on a network. This section describes the procedure for sending scanned data to another computer using Quick Connect installed on p.
5. Press [Next]. The filename entry screen appears. 6. Enter a filename. 7. Press [Send]. The scanned data is sent. After the data is successfully sent, a screen for selecting the next operation appears. 8. Select the next operation. You can enter the filename for the scanned data by pressing to display the on-screen keyboard. When an actual keyboard is connected to the device, you can use that keyboard for text entry. For details on the on-screen keyboard, see “On-Screen Keyboard” on p. 38.
❏ Preview Screen Images of scanned data appear in the Preview screen. You can manipulate the images by pressing the buttons on the screen. h Previous page Display the previous page of the scanned images. i Current page / total pages Displays the total number of pages for the scanned images currently displayed, and the current page number. j Next page Display the next page of the scanned images. k Last page Display the last page of the scanned images. l Zoom Zoom in or out on the scanned images.
The layout of the on-screen keyboard is similar to that of standard QWERTY keyboards. The following describes the unique buttons on the keyboard. Shift focus to a different text box when multiple boxes are displayed. Display candidates for text when typing with the “Search while typing” option enabled. Enable or disable the “Search while typing” option. Apply the entered text and close the on-screen keyboard. Cancel the entered text and close the on-screen keyboard.
