Locking the Zoom Ring
The zoom ring can be locked to keep the lens at the shortest point. This
can be convenient when you want to prevent the lens from extending
while carrying the camcorder on a strap.
1 Turn the zoom ring to the wide-angle end.
The zoom ring can be locked only at the wide-angle end.
2 Slide the zoom ring lock lever in the direction indicated by the Í mark
on the lever.
To release the zoom ring, slide the zoom ring lock lever in the
opposite direction.
Using the Image Stabilizer
When you use the IS lens's built-in image stabilizer, camcorder shake is
compensated to achieve steadier shots. The procedure explained here
is based on the EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens as an example. The image stabilizer is available regardless of
the focus mode switch's position.
Set the STABILIZER switch to ON.
IMPORTANT
The image stabilizer operates for about two seconds even after
recording has finished. Do not remove the lens while the stabilizer is in
operation. This will cause a malfunction.
NOTES
The EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM and EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
STM lenses are effective for hand-held shots under the following
conditions.
- In semi-dark areas such as outdoors at night or indoors.
- In situations where your footing is uncertain.
The image stabilizer cannot compensate for a blurred shot caused by a subject that moved.
The dynamic IS of the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens is effective when shooting while walking and is
most effective at the wide-angle end. When the image stabilizer is active, dynamic IS will automatically activate
when the camcorder shoots clips.
If the degree of camcorder shake is too high, the image stabilizer may not be able to fully compensate.
With the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, image stabilization compensates for camcorder shake in all
directions when shooting a still subject. It compensates for vertical shake during panning shots and for
horizontal shake during tilting shots.
When you use a tripod, the image stabilizer should be turned off to save battery power.
The image stabilizer function activates when the lens is used with an Extension Tube EF12 II or EF25 II.
