The Principle of Tilt and Shift

 By tilting the lens, the lens’ optical axis
is tilted with regard to the imaging plane,
allowing the focusing plane to be tilted.
 By shifting the lens, the lens’ optical axis
is moved in parallel with regard to the
image plane, allowing the focusing plane
to be moved in parallel.
