The Principle of Tilt and Shift

By tilting the lens, the lens’ optical axis
is tilted with regard to the imaging plane,
allowing the focusing plane to be tilted.
By shifting the lens, the lens’ optical axis
is moved in parallel with regard to the
image plane, allowing the focusing plane
to be moved in parallel.
