Charging the Battery Pack Before use, charge the battery pack with the included charger. Shutter Button To ensure your shots are in focus, always begin by holding the shutter button halfway down, and once the subject is in focus, press the button all the way down to shoot. Custom White Balance Image Colors Before Use For image colors that look natural under the light in your shot, adjust white balance to suit the light source where you are shooting. Set the white balance under the same light source that will illuminate your shot. Capturing Natural Colors (White Balance) Still Images 1 Movies By adjusting white balance (WB), you can make image colors look more natural for the scene you are shooting.
●● Capturing a white subject that is too bright or dark may prevent you from setting the white balance correctly. ●● A message is displayed on the screen for loading white data if you choose an unsuitable image. Choose [Cancel] to choose a different image. Choose [OK] to use that image for loading white data, but note that it may not produce a suitable white balance. ●● Instead of a white object, a gray chart or 18% gray reflector (commercially available) can produce a more accurate white balance.
Before Use Shooting in Manual Focus Mode Shooting Range and Focusing Still Images Shooting Close-Ups (Macro) Still Images Movies To restrict the focus to subjects at close range, set the camera to [ ]. ●● Press the button and choose [ ]. Before Use Digital Tele-Converter Still Images Movies The focal length of the lens can be increased by approximately 1.6x or 2.0x.
●● Focusing may take longer or be incorrect when subjects are dark or lack contrast, or in very bright conditions. Changing the Focus Setting Before Use Shooting with AF Lock Still Images Movies You can change default camera operation of constantly focusing on subjects it is aimed at, even when the shutter button is not pressed. Lens Retraction Timing Power-Saving Adjustment The lens is normally retracted for safety about one minute after you press the button in shooting modes (= 20). To have the lens retracted immediately after you press the button, set the retraction timing to [0 sec.]. New folders can be created by selecting [Create folder] on the folder selection screen. Your shots are automatically numbered in sequential order (0001 – 9999) and saved in folders that store up to 9,999 images each. Before Use Deactivating Auto Rotation Checking Certification Logos Follow these steps to deactivate automatic image rotation, which rotates images displayed on the camera or a computer based on the camera orientation. Some logos for certification requirements met by the camera can be viewed on the screen. Using a Computer to Charge the Battery You can also charge the battery pack by inserting the larger plug of the interface cable into a computer’s USB terminal in step 2 of “Inserting and Charging the Battery Pack” (= 109). For details about USB connections on the computer, refer to the computer user manual. We recommend using Interface Cable IFC-600PCU (sold separately). ●● With the camera turned off, open the cover.
