Background
information: A new
IS
lens
for
macro
What
is
Hybrid
IS?
Macro
photography involves shooting close-ups
of
subjects, including flowers, insects, and jewelry.
Until recently, however, there was no technology that could compensate for the type
of
camera
shake common to macro photograpy.
With
the advent
of
Canon's Hybrid
IS
(image stabilizer), the
ability
to
obtain sharp, blur-free macro photos when shooting handheld
is
now
a reality, providing
an excellent solution when
use
of
a tripod
is
either impractical
or
prohibited.

In
non-macro situations,
the
effects
of
camera shake can
be
seen
when shooting handheld at
shutter
speeds slower than
the
reciprocal
of
the
lens
focal length (i.e. 1

in
seconds),
But
in
macro
situations,
these
effects are more pronounced, requiring shutter speeds one
to
two
steps
faster
in
order
to obtain blur-free handheld photos. Canon's

solves
this
problem.
