There are
two
types
of
camera shake that can negatively affect image quality:
angle
camera shake
and
shift
camera shake. Conventional Canon
IS
technology incorporates a vibration
gyro
(angular speed sensor) to
compensate for angle camera shake. This
is
an excellent solution for most types
of
photography, but provides
insufficient image stabilization for macro photography, which
is
highly susceptible to shift camera shake.
Hybrid
IS
solves this problem by including an acceleration sensor to compensate for shift camera shake. This new sensor
works
in
tandem with the
angular
speed sensor and a newly developed algorithm to deliver
highly
effective
image
stabilization for both macro
and
non-macro photographic applications - a first for
Canon
and
the
world*.
