1. Mounting and Detaching the Lens
Seeyourcamera'sinstructionsfordetailson mounting and detaching t he lens
Q • After detachi ng the lens. place the le ns with the rear end up to prevent the
lens
surface and contacts from getting scralched. (fig. 8 )
• If
t
he contacts ge t soiled, scra tched, or have fingerprints on them, corrosion or
faulty connections can result. The camera and
le ns may no t operate properly.
• If
t
he contacts get soiled or have fingerprints on them, clean them with a soft
doth.
• If
you remove the lens, cover it with the dust cap. To attach it properly,
align the lens mount index and the 0 index
of the dust cap as shown in the
diagram, and tum
clockwise. (fig.e J
To remove it, reverse the order.
2. Zooming
Turn the lens' zoom ring to adjust the s iz e of the photo field or subje ct. {fig .8 )
• For wi
der shots. turn the zoom ring toward the wide end
• For closer shots, turn the zoom ring toward
th e telephoto end.
Q ·Be sure to finish zooming before focusing. Zooming aftef focusing can affect
the
focus
• B
lu rring may tempo ra rily occur if the zoom ri ng is quickly ro tated.
• Zooming during still image exposure will result
in delayed focus. This causes
any streaks
of light that are captured during exposure to be blurred

Manual Focus
When the camera's focus mode is set to [MF]. focus manually by turning the
focusingring. (fig.e )
Q Q ui ck ly rotating the focusing ring may result in delayed focus

· After autofocusing
in [AF+MF] mode. focus man ua lly by pressing the shutter
button
halfway and turning the focusing ring (full-time man
ua l focusing)
4. Image Stabilizer
This lens is equipped with an Image Stabilize r. This funct io n cor re cts camera shake ,
al lowing users to capture sharp images. Also, the Ima ge Stabilizer au tom a ti ca lly
provi<:les optimal image stabilization dependi ng on shoo ti ng con.d itions (such as
shooting
still subjects and following shots
). Please set the Im age Stabilizer ON or
OFF using the camera s
ettings_ See your camera's instructions for details
Q · The Im age S ta bilizer cannot compensate for a blurred shot caused by a
su bject that moved
•
The Image Stabilizer may not
be fully effective if you shoot from a violently
shaking vehicle or other transportation.
• The Image Sta
bi liz er consumes more power than normal shoo ti ng . resulti ng in
fewer
shots and a shorter movie shooting time.
llJ . When shooting a still subject, it compensates lor camera shake in all
directions -
• It
compensates for vertical camera shake during following shots
in a horizontal
di rection, and compensates for horizontal camera shake during following
shots
in a vertica l directiOn
• When you use a tripod. the Image Stabilizer should be turned off to save
battery power.
•
Even with a monopod, the Image Stabilizer will
be as effec ti ve as du ring
hand-held shooting.
However, depending on
th e shooti ng environmen t, the Image Stabilizer effect
maybe less effective.
5.
Hood (sold separately)
The ET -54B hood cuts out unwant ed light a nd protec ts the front of the lens from
rain. snow, and dust
To attach the hood,
aHgn the hood's attachment position marK with the red dot on
the front of the lens, then turn the hood as shown by t he arrow until the lens· red dot
is aligned with the hood's stop position marie (fig .e )
The hood can
be reverse-mounted on the lens for storage.
Q · If the hood is not attached properly, vignetting (d ariwning of the perimeter of
the picture) may occur.

Filters (sold separately)
You can attach filters to the fi lter mounting thread on the front of the lens.
