Dialing methods
Ways of pressing one or more buttons to access a
number to connect to an outside party or fax ma
chine. Dialing methods include One-touch. Coded
Speed Dialing. Group Dialing. Directory Dialing,
and Manual (Regular).
Direct Sending
Transmitting a fax document one page at a time with
out having the document scanned into memory.
Directory Dialing
A dialing method that allows you to dial any tele
phone or fax number registered for One-touch or
Coded Speed Dialing. You recall the number by the
name you entered w'hen registering the number.
Document
The sheet of paper containing the data that you send
to or receive from a fax.
dpi
Dots per inch. A unit of measurement for indicating
a printer's resolution.
DRPD
Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection. Allows you to
assign up to five different ring patterns to distinguish
voice and fax calls using your telephone company's
special services.
ECM
Hrror Correction Mode. The ability of your
FAXPHONE to reduce system and line errors when
sending or receiving from another fax with ECM ca
pability. ECM is most effective in areas where the
telephone lines are in poor condition or there is fre
quent interference on the line. Do not use ECM if
VOLI need to send a document quickly and you are
sure the other party can read your transmission with
out it (turning off ECM also turns off MMR).
Extension
A telephone connected to the FAXPHONE that is
used in place of the handset. You can use the exten
sion telephone to activate incoming reception of
documents manually.
FAX/TEL switching
This option allows you to set the FAXPHONE to
automatically detect w'hether a call is from a tax or
telephone. If the call is from another fax. the trans
mission is automatically received. If the call Is Irom
a telephone, the FAXPHONE rings to let you know,
so you can pick up the handset. With this leaturc.
one telephone line can be shared by both the tele
phone and the fax.
FINE
The setting for documents with very small charac
ters and lines.
G3, Group 3 fax machine
Defined by CCITT. Uses encoding schemes to trans
mit image data while reducing the amount of data
that needs to be transmitted, thus reducing transmis
sion time. G.3 fax machines can transmit one page
in less than one minute. Encoding schemes for G.^
fax machines are Modified Huffman (MH). Modi
fied Read (MR), and Modified Modified Read
(MMR).
Group Dialing
A dialing method that enables you to dial up to 69
registered One-touch .Speed Dialing or Coded Speed
Dialing numbers together as a group. This means
that you can press just one or three buttons to enter
numbers when sending the same document to many
destinations.
H
HOOK
The button that engages and disengages the telephone
line.
Ink cartridge
The special type of ink cartridge used w ith Canon
Bubble Jet fax machines. The ink cartridge for the
FAXPHONE includes the print head tind ink. Use
the BX-.^ cartridge only.
