How to Use This Instruction Manual Click to move to the beginning of each chapter. Main Features Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software is designed for viewing and editing RAW images shot with Canon digital cameras and has the following features and functions to meet the requirements of professional and high-end amateurs who mainly shoot RAW images. High-speed Processing of RAW Images O DPP has made possible, using Canon’s own high performance algorithm, high-speed processing and high-speed display of RAW images.

Starting up Digital Photo Professional By starting up Digital Photo Professional, you can view/edit images saved on your computer. Before being able to view or edit images in Digital Photo Professional, you need to first download shot images to your computer. For details on downloading images from your camera to your computer, refer to “Downloading Images from the Camera” (p.1-3) and the “EOS Utility Instruction Manual”. Double-click the [Digital Photo Professional] icon on the desktop.
Information Displayed with Images The following shows the information displayed when [Large thumbnail] (p.1-5) is selected. This mark is displayed for an image that has been corrected with the copy stamp tool (p.1-13, p.1-14). This mark is displayed when a check mark is set (p.1-2, p.2-2, p.32, p.4-1). This mark is displayed for images being trimmed (p.1-12). This mark is displayed for unsaved images being edited. This value is displayed for RAW images for which the brightness was adjusted (p.1-10).
Handling the Folders You can handle the folder from the menu that appears by clicking the folder with the right button on the mouse. Click on the folder with the right button on the mouse and select an option from the menu that appears. O You can drag and drop folders in the folder area to move them to the other folders. You can also copy the folders by dragging and dropping them while holding down the key.
Selecting the Image Display Mode Copying/Moving an Image You can copy and save or move an image to another folder. 1 2 3 4 Select the image to be copied or moved. The available image sizes are [Large thumbnail], [Middle thumbnail], and [Small thumbnail]. Various information (p.1-3) is displayed in the display frame. Select [View] menu ` Select the size to be set. ¿ The image is copied or cut. ¿ The images are displayed in the selected size. Select the [Edit] menu ` [Paste].
Sorting Images You can sort images according to a condition you select. Displaying the Edit Window You can enlarge the image and perform detailed edits. Select [View] menu ` [Sort] ` Select the condition to be set. Double-click an image. ¿ The images are sorted according to the selected condition. ¿ The edit window appears. [File name] : File names are sorted in alphanumeric order (0 to 9 J a to z).
Editing RAW Images with RAW Image Adjustment Functions You can perform various edits on the RAW images. When edited with the RAW image adjustment function (p.1-7 to p.1-10), there is almost no deterioration which accompanies image editing. You can therefore edit an image multiple times while preserving the image quality at the time the image was shot. Adjusting the White Balance You can set the white balance with each method. 1 1 2 Select a RAW image. Edit the RAW image (p.1-7 to p.1-10).
Selecting the White Balance Specifying the Color Temperature You can specify the white balance. You can specify the color temperature in the range of 2800 to 10000K (in 100K increments). Adjusting with the Color Wheel Personal White Balance You can select a desired color from the color wheel. You can also specify the color tone in the range of 0 to 359 (in 1-stop increments), and the color saturation in the range of 0 to 255 (in 1-stop increments). You can apply the personal white balance (p.2-5) that you registered in the edit window or the edit image window to images. 1 Introduction Click the [1], [2] or [3] button. Click the [Tune] button.
Adjusting the Brightness You can adjust the brightness in the range of –2.0 to +2.0 (in 0.01-stop increments when entering a value). 1 Click the [Brightness (RAW)] button (p.1-2). 2 Adjust an image while viewing it. ¿ The [Brightness adjustment] dialog box appears. O Alternatively, you can display this dialog box by selecting [Adjustment] menu ` [Brightness adjustment(RAW)]. O A color space is the reproducible color range (the characteristics of color gamut).
Editing Images with RGB Image Adjustment Functions You can perform various edits on the RAW and RGB (JPEG, TIFF) images. When edited with the RGB image adjustment function, the image deteriorates slightly with editing. When you use the RGB image adjustment function, edit the image while checking changes in the image quality which accompanies editing. Automatically Adjusting the Tone Curve (Tone Curve Assist) You can automatically adjust the tone curve (p.
Trimming Images Using the Trimming Function You can trim an image within your desired range. 1 2 Displays the full screen. To return to the original view, click this button again or press the key on the keyboard. To switch between full screen display/normal screen display, press the key or the + keys on the keyboard. Select the [Tools] menu ` [Start Trimming tool]. ¿ The trimming window appears. Introduction Trim the image. Cancels the trimmed range.
Correcting Images Using the Copy Stamp Function You can correct an image using the repair function or the copy stamp function. The image is displayed at 100% (actual pixel size). Click this button again to display the image in the size that fits to the window. Correcting an Image Using the Repair Function You can correct an image so that unwanted spots (spots you want to delete) on the image blend with surrounding color.
Correcting an Image Using the Copy Stamp Function Select the [Tools] menu X [Start Stamp tool]. Displays the full screen. To return to the original view, click this button again or press the key on the keyboard. To switch between full screen display/normal screen display, press the key or the + keys on the keyboard. ¿ The copy stamp window appears. Specifies the section to copy. Only functions with [100% View]. The image is displayed at 100% (actual pixel size).
Using Edits (Recipe) Editing data applied to an image can be copied and applied to another image, saved as a separate file from the image, and loaded and applied to another image. In Digital Photo Professional, editing data is referred to as “recipe”. Edit the image. For example, set the color temperature to 6500K and the contrast to –10. This editing data becomes the recipe. The copied recipe, color temperature of 6500K and contrast of –10, is applied to the other image.
O When you copy a recipe and apply it to another image, the recipe is applied as follows depending on the image type. Recipe : Shows the RAW image adjustment recipe (editing data). Recipe : Shows the RGB image adjustment recipe (editing data). RGB image adjustment data is applied. Reverting Edited Images to Their Original Condition Saving the Editing Data to the Image You can cancel all the edits for images, and revert the edited images to their original settings before being edited or when shots were taken. You can save editing data (a recipe) in an image. Editing data performed with Digital Photo Professional has not directly edited the image, but displays the image by applying virtual editing data (a recipe) (p.1-15).
Converting an Edited Image/Saving as a Separate Image You can apply editing data to an edited RAW image and convert it to an RGB (JPEG, TIFF) image or save it as a separate image. You can also apply editing data to an edited RGB image and save as a separate image. O Editing data performed with Digital Photo Professional has not directly edited the image, but displays the image by applying virtual editing data (a recipe) (p.1-15).
Converting Multiple Images in a Single Operation/Saving Multiple Images as Separate Images (Batch Processing) 1 2 3 4 5 6 Edit an image (p.1-7 to p.1-14). Click the [Batch process] button (p.1-2). The specified folder name appears to the side of the [Browse] button. ¿ The [Batch settings] dialog box appears. Displays the file names of the images to be saved as a batch.

Transferring Images to Image Editing Software Transferring One Image to Photoshop You can transfer an image to Adobe Photoshop. Transferring Multiple Images to Image Editing Software You can transfer multiple images to image editing software. The description given here use Adobe Photoshop CS, as an example. Transfer one image to Photoshop. 1 2 O O O O Transfer multiple images to image editing software. Select the image to transfer to Photoshop. Select [Tools] menu ` [Transfer to Photoshop].
Printing Images One-Page Printing (Automatic Settings Printing) You can automatically lay out one image on one page and print. Layout automatically and print 1 2 Cover/Table of Contents Select an image and then select [File] menu ` [Customized Prints]. Introduction Specify the settings. You can perform settings for the printer you will print on and paper etc.. You can perform settings for shooting information, title and captions etc. to be printed on the image.
Contact Sheet Printing Cover/Table of Contents Printing with Canon PIXMA/BJ Printers You can perform the desired settings, arrange multiple images and then print. For users with PIXMA/BJ printers that are compatible with the Canon PIXMA/BJ printer dedicated printing software Easy-PhotoPrint or Easy-PhotoPrint Pro, you can print with Digital Photo Professional. To print with this software, first install Easy-PhotoPrint version 2.1 or later, or Easy-PhotoPrint Pro version 1.0 or later to your computer.
Operating with the Remote Shooting Function Printing with Canon Large-Format Printers For users with Canon’s Large-Format imagePROGRAF iP F5000 printers, you can print with Digital Photo Professional. To print with this software, first install the imagePROGRAF Print Plug-In version 2.0 or later to your computer. Select an image and then select the [File] menu ` [Plug-in printing] ` [Print with L-Plug-In]. ¿ The imagePROGRAF Print Plug-In starts up. O Follow the instructions in the dialog box to print.
Specifying Preferences You can specify various settings for Digital Photo Professional. 1 2 Allows you to specify the grid spacing in a range of 8 to 256 pixels used when the grid lines (p.2-3) are displayed in the edit window or the edit image window. Cover/Table of Contents Select [Tools] menu ` [Preferences]. ¿ The [Preferences] dialog box appears. Introduction Select the desired tab, specify the settings, and then click the [OK] button.
Allows you to select the histogram displayed in the [RGB image adjustment] tab sheet on the tool palette. Select [Tone curve mode] (tone curve display) and [Interpolation method] (tie method) for the tone curve Select a color space for the monitor. If you select the [Monitor profile], click the [Browse] button and select a profile for the used monitor. O You can set in the image a color space different from [Default settings of Work color space] (p.1-10). O A color space is the reproducible color range (the characteristics of color gamut). Digital Photo Professional supports the following 5 kinds of color space. sRGB : Standard color space for Windows. Widely used for the standard color space of monitors, digital cameras, and scanners. Adobe RGB : A wider color space than sRGB. Mainly used for printing for business purposes.

O Editing of RAW images with the RAW image adjustment function (p.2-4 to p.2-7) is recommended as there is almost no deterioration of the image which accompanies editing. Although there is a similar function in the RGB image adjustment function (p.2-7 to p.2-10), there is slight picture deterioration with editing.
Adjusting the Tone Curve A tone curve shows the brightness and color saturation for the original image (input) and the adjusted image (output) in the form of a line graph. You can use the tone curve to adjust the image brightness and color saturation values that were set by the camera automatically when the shot was taken. Also, you can adjust the input and output of the entire image in a single operation, or individually adjust the input and output of [R] (Red), [G] (Green) and [B] (Blue).
Click White Balance Function Adjusting the Brightness and Contrast Makes white the standard for the point you selected and color in the image is adjusted. You can adjust the brightness and contrast in the range of –100 to +100 (in 1-stop increments when entering a value). 1 Click the [Click] button. ¿ When you move the cursor over the image, the cursor [ ] changes to [ ].
