Cannot acquire battery information Continue using this battery pack?
- You attached a battery pack that does not bear the Intelligent System mark.
- If you are using a battery pack that bears the Intelligent System mark, there may be a problem with the camcorder or
battery pack. Consult a Canon Service Center.
Cannot play back
- The file control information is corrupted or there was a decoder error. Turn off the camcorder and back on again. If this
does not solve the problem, consult a Canon Service Center.
Corrupted file control information cannot be recovered. SD cards or clips with corrupt file control information cannot
be read by the supplied software, Data Import Utility.
Cannot record
- The file control information is corrupted or there was an encoder error. Turn off the camcorder and back on again.
Then, remove the SD card being used and reinsert it. Alternatively, replace the SD card. If this does not solve the
problem, consult a Canon Service Center.
Corrupted file control information cannot be recovered. SD cards or clips with corrupt file control information cannot
be read by the supplied software, Data Import Utility.
Cannot record movies on this memory card
- Video cannot be recorded on a 64 MB or smaller SD card. Use a recommended card (A 40).
Cannot restore
- Could not recover data on the SD card. Save your clips (A 143) and initialize the SD card (A 42).
Cannot start continuous rec
- You have already recorded the maximum number of continuous recording clips (200 clips) in a single SD card. Replace
the SD card(s).
Cannot switch SD card slots
- The SLOT SELECT button was pressed while the camcorder is recording. Wait until recording is finished to change the
selected SD card slot.
Change the battery pack
- The battery pack is exhausted. Replace or charge the battery pack.
Check the connection of the grip unit
- The grip unit may not be attached correctly. Check the connection.
Check the data on 8A/8B Initializing the card is also recommended
- The first time you use an SD card with this camcorder, initialize it first (A 42).
- The SD card cannot be used for any of the following reasons.
A problem has occurred with the SD card.
The camcorder cannot read the SD card’s data.
The SD card was initialized using a computer.
The SD card has been partitioned.
- Save your clips (A 143) and initialize the SD card (A 42).
Check the SD card
- Use a recommended SD card (A 40).
Check 8A/8B
- The SD card cannot be accessed. Check that the SD card is inserted correctly and not malfunctioning.
- Due to an SD card error, recording on/playback from the SD card is not possible. Remove and then reinsert the SD
card or use a different SD card.
- You inserted a MultiMedia Card (MMC) into the camcorder. Use a recommended SD card (A 40).
- If after the message disappears, the SD card access indicator illuminates in red, perform the following: Turn off the
camcorder and remove and reinsert the SD card. If the SD card access indicator illuminates in green, you can resume
recording/playback. If the problem persists, save your recordings (A 143) and initialize the SD card (A 42).
Cover is open
- The SD card compartment cover was open when the camcorder was switched to or turned on in mode. Close
the compartment cover.
Data on 8A/8B needs recovering Attempt to recover?
- If data on the SD card is corrupted, such as when the power suddenly turned off while recording, the data must be
recovered. When this message appears, select [OK] and then press the joystick.
Data on 8A/8B needs recovering Change the position of the LOCK switch on the memory card.
- This message will appear the next time you turn on the camcorder if power supply was accidentally interrupted while
the camcorder was writing on the SD card and later the position of the SD card's LOCK switch was changed to
prevent erasure. Change the position of the LOCK switch.
