Using an SD Card
Relay Recording and Double Slot Recording
The camcorder features two useful SD card recording methods, relay recording and double slot recording.
Relay recording: This allows you to continue recording on another SD card if the SD card you are using becomes
full. Relay recording is available from SD card slot A to SD card slot B, and vice versa.
Double slot recording: This records the same clip simultaneously to both SD cards, which is a convenient way to
make a backup copy of your recording while you record.
To use relay recording
By default, this function is activated. If it has been deactivated, follow the
procedure below to activate it.
1 Open the [Relay Rec] submenu.

NOTES
[MP4 (4 Mbps)] and [MP4 (3 Mbps)] are not available for AVCHD clips at 28 Mbps or MP4 clips at 35 Mbps.
If an SD card becomes full during double slot recording, recording on both SD cards will stop. On the other
hand, if an error occurs with one of the SD cards, recording will continue on the other SD card.
Double slot recording cannot be used with relay recording or slow & fast motion recording. While double slot
recording is activated, you cannot use the [w Other Functions] > [Delete Last Clip] setting to delete the last
clip recorded.
Checking the Remaining Recording Time on the SD Card
When the camcorder is in mode, the display on the upper left of the screen indicates which SD card slot
is in use and the available recording time (in minutes*) that remains on each SD card.
On the [Media] status screen (A 178), you can check the total space, SD speed class, used space, available
recording time** and available number of photos on each of the SD cards.
* The approximate available recording time is based on the current bit rate (A 54).
**The available recording time will appear on the status screen only in mode.
Operating modes:
[On]: Records the clip to both SD cards. Both clips use the same video configuration.
[MP4 (4 Mbps)]: Records the clip to both SD cards. The second clip (the one recorded to the SD card that is not
selected) is recorded in MP4 at 4 Mbps with a resolution of 1280x720.
[MP4 (3 Mbps)]: The second clip is recorded in MP4 at 3 Mbps with a resolution of 640x360.
