• Continuous AF will not work in the following cases.
- When using an EF lens that does not have a focus mode switch.
- While adjusting the aperture, except when using an EF lens compatible with face AF (A 65).
- While adjusting the focus using a remote controller attached to the REMOTE terminal.
• Autofocus may not work well on the following subjects or in the following cases. In such case, focus manually.
- Reflective surfaces
- Subjects with low contrast or without vertical lines
- Fast moving subjects
- Through dirty or wet windows
-Night scenes
Detecting and Focusing On Faces (Face AF)
When using a compatible EF lens (A 65), the camcorder can detect a
person’s face during autofocus mode, automatically focus on it, and
even track it if the person moves. When there are a number of people in
the picture, one person (with the white face detection frame) will be
determined to be the main subject and the camcorder will focus on that
person’s face. You can also change the person selected as main
subject.
1 Set the focus mode switch on the lens to AF in advance.
• Refer to the instruction manual of the lens used.
• [AF] will appear on the left of the screen.
2 Open the [Face AF] submenu.
[~ Camera Setup] > [AF] > [Face AF]
3 Select the desired option and then press the joystick.

4 Point the camcorder at the subject.
• If there is more than one person in the picture, the camcorder will automatically select one person it
determines is the main subject. The camcorder will indicate the main subject with a white face detection
frame and other faces with gray frames.
• will appear in white when a face is detected and in gray when a face is not detected.
• If necessary, push the joystick left/right to change the main subject when there is more than one person.
• If necessary, you can use AF lock (A 75)
Options
[Face Priority] : When there is no face detected, the camcorder focuses automatically on the subject at the center of
the screen.
[Face Only] : The camcorder locks the focus.
[Off]: Standard autofocus operation with no face detection.
