About This Device This device allows you to connect LAN-compatible computers to a scanner via a network. By connecting a scanner to the device with a USB cable, you can perform scanning operations from a computer via the network. With a Wi-Fi connection, by connecting this device to a wireless base station (access point) in the network environment, any computer in the network can use the scanner. The device is very simple to connect if the access point supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).

Setup (1) Installing the Scanner Driver (2) Connecting to the Scanner To use the device, the driver of the scanner to be used in conjunction with the device must be updated to its latest version. The scanner driver is available on the downloads page of the Canon website. Cord Cover and Stand You can attach the supplied cord cover to protect the connected cable’s connector. About Wi-Fi Connection Software To establish a Wi-Fi connection, the WA10 Wireless Connection Tool can be run from the bundled Setup disc. System requirements You can attach the stand to set the device upright. In addition, placing the scanner on the stand will stabilize the device. Place the scanner here.
About Wi-Fi Connections Connect the device to an access point or directly to a computer according to the network environment. 1 Insert the software setup disc into the computer’s disc drive. Network modes This device has the following two network modes. Network mode Description AP mode This mode provides independent operation without a separate wireless base station (access point). It provides a one-to-one connection to a computer. Station mode This mode provides wireless client operation.
Enabling the wireless LAN function of the computer To make a Wi-Fi connection, turn on the computer’s wireless LAN function. 1 Click the Start button - [Control Panel] - [View network status and tasks]. 3 4 2 If the [Wireless Network Connection] icon is [Disabled], double-click the icon. Click to close the settings screen. Click [Change adapter settings].

Connecting Using the Wireless Settings of the Computer Use the WA10 Wireless Connection Tool to automatically acquire the required network information from the wireless settings of the computer connected to the wireless LAN access point, and connect the device to the same network. CAUTION • If the access point is using security settings (such as MAC address filtering), change the settings to allow connection to this device.
6 Click [Next]. 7 Select the device to configure, and click [Next]. 8 Select [Setup by using the computer’s wireless settings], and click [Next]. The connection is established. When successfully connected, “Success” is displayed on the result screen. This completes configuration. Hint When normal connection fails, “Failed” is displayed on the result screen. To reconfigure, click [Return to main screen] and retry the operation from the beginning.
Selecting and Connecting to a Destination Access Point Using the WA10 Wireless Connection Tool, select the access point from the destination list, and connect this device to the network. CAUTION • If the access point is using security settings (such as MAC address filtering), change the settings to allow connection to this device. • To ensure good Wi-Fi communications, perform this procedure with the device initially located close to the access point. 1 If the device is powered on, turn it off.
6 Click [Next]. 7 Select the device to configure, and click [Next]. 16 8 Select [Setup by selecting from list], and click [Next]. A list of access points detected by the computer is displayed. 9 From the list, select the access point to connect to, and click [Next].
10 Enter the security key for the access point, and click [Next]. The connection is established. When successfully connected, “Success” is displayed on the result screen. This completes configuration. Hint When normal connection fails, “Failed” is displayed on the result screen. To reconfigure, click [Return to main screen] and retry the operation from the beginning.
Specifying and Connecting to an Access Point Using the WA10 Wireless Connection Tool, specify the access point for connection, then connect this device to the network. CAUTION • If the access point is using security settings (such as MAC address filtering), change the settings to allow connection to this device. • To ensure good Wi-Fi communications, perform this procedure with the device initially located close to the access point. 1 If the device is powered on, turn it off.
6 Click [Next]. 7 Select the device to configure, and click [Next]. 9 Enter the information for the access point to be connected. A Enter the SSID. B Select the type of security. C Enter the security key. 10 Click [Next]. The connection is established. When successfully connected, “Success” is displayed on the result screen. This completes configuration. Connecting Using WPS Using WPS, this device can connect to an existing wireless network having a WPS-equipped access point. CAUTION • Even a WPS-equipped access point may have WPS disabled. Ensure WPS is enabled. • If the access point is using security settings (such as MAC address filtering), change the settings to allow connection to this device. • To ensure good Wi-Fi communications, perform this procedure with the device initially located close to the access point.
Connecting to Another Device with One-to-One Connection This procedure establishes a one-to-one connection between this device and a computer or smart device equipped with wireless LAN capability. 1 If the device is powered on, turn it off. Turning off the scanner also turns off the device. 2 Check the SSID of this device. The SSID is printed on the label on the side of the device. 3 Enable the wireless LAN function of the computer.
5 Search for the wireless network, and establish Wi-Fi connection with the device. A Click the icon in the taskbar to display a list of available wireless networks. 22 B Select the SSID from step 2 in the list, then click [Connect]. C Enter the security key shown on the label on the side of the device, then click [OK].
Connecting to the Wired Network The device’s factory default setting is AP mode. Switching the device to wired LAN mode acquires an IP address from the DHCP server. If the network to which the device will connect includes a DHCP server, the device will be usable simply by connecting to that network. You can check whether the device is connected to the network properly and ready for use by performing the following and starting the Driver Setting Tool.
4 5 Check that the scanner appears in the list. Select the scanner in your application. Device Setting to Specify a Static IP Address Configure the settings as follows. 1 Hold the Wireless On/Off button for five seconds. Operation switches to wired LAN mode, and the Wireless lamp turns off. 2 Hold the Wireless On/Off button and the WPS/Reset button for five seconds. The device's DHCP setting will be disabled, and the Connection lamp lights orange.
Scanning with the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool from a Smart Device The CaptureOnTouch Job Tool is an application for smart devices (such as smart phones and tablet devices) for controlling scan operations via this device (WA10). Preparation Before Scanning Install the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool on your smart device, connect the WA10 to a computer, and connect your smart device to the network. 1 Install the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool application on your smart device.
Granting Access Permission Job Scanning from the App When saving scanned data in a specific location, a screen asking for permission to access the smart device is displayed. You can save scanned data if you grant access permission. If you do not grant access permission, you cannot save the scanned data. You can change granting/denial of access permission by the following procedure. You can register a job in the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool and execute scanning according to the job's scan settings.
3 Hint Register the job. You can register multiple jobs. Up to 99 jobs can be registered. A Tap [Add new]. 4 Tap the registered job's icon. Scanning is executed and the scanned data is saved in the shared folder of the specified computer. B On the [Add] screen, set the [Job name] and [Scan setting], then tap [SAVE]. 5 Tap [ ] to save the scanned data in the smart device. Scanned data is saved in the smart device.
Editing job settings You can edit the settings of registered jobs. 3 Change the settings in [Job name] and [Scan setting], and tap [SAVE]. The settings are saved. 1 Press and hold the icon of the job you want to edit. [ ] appears to indicate the job is editable. Hint To cancel editing, tap the job icon again or tap [ ] – [Deselect]. 2 Deleting jobs You can delete registered jobs. Tap [ ]. The [Edit] screen appears. 1 Press and hold the icon of a job you want to delete.
• By tapping [ ] – [Select all] or [Deselect], you can select all jobs or cancel the selected state. 2 3 Tap [ ], or tap [ 4 Enter the administrator password. ] — [Copy job registration settings]. Tap [ ]. A confirmation message appears. 3 Tap [OK]. The selected job(s) is deleted. Enter the same password as for the Web menu. For details, see “Displaying the Web Menu of This Device” (p. 37).
To Delete Jobs Copied to the Scanner Jobs copied to the scanner can be deleted. 1 Delete the job(s) from the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool. Job Scanning from a PC When there is one or more computer on the same network, you can use the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool to select and execute jobs registered by CaptureOnTouch on each computer. For details, see “Deleting jobs” (p. 28). Hint To delete all jobs copied to the scanner, delete all jobs from the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool. 2 Select the scanner.
3 Select the scanner. A Tap [ ]. 5 Tap the job number to execute, and tap [Scan]. Scanning executes according to the scan settings of the selected job number. Hint • Using the CaptureOnTouch favorite on the computer selected in the above figure, the job is registered as shown below. B On the [Select computer] screen, select a computer.
Scanning from a Computer with the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool CaptureOnTouch Job Tool for Windows is an application to control scanning via the WA10 by computer operation. Preparation Before Scanning Install the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool on the computer, and connect it and the WA10 to the network. 1 2 Install the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool application on the computer. Connect the WA10 to a Wi-Fi or wired network. For details, see “About Wi-Fi Connections” (p. 10), “Connecting to the Wired Network” (p. 23).
3 Register the job. A Click [Add]. 4 Click the registered job's icon, then click [Scan]. Scanning is executed and the scanned data is saved in the shared folder of the specified computer. B On the Add screen, set the [Job name] and [Scan setting], then click [Save]. Editing job settings You can edit the settings of registered jobs. 1 Click the icon of the job you want to edit.
3 Change the settings in [Job name] and [Scan setting], and click [Save]. Deleting all jobs You can delete all registered jobs at once. The settings are saved. 1 Click [Delete All]. A confirmation message appears. Deleting jobs You can delete registered jobs. 1 Click the icon of the job you want to delete. 2 Click [ ]. The selected job(s) is deleted. 34 2 Click [OK]. All jobs are deleted.
CAUTION Scanning with Scanner Start Button You can copy a job registered in the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool to the scanner, then scan according to those scan job settings by pressing the scanner's start button. In this scanning method, since the WA10 controls the scanner, the computer is not needed to execute scanning. 1 The number of jobs that can be copied depends on the scanner. 6 Scanning executes according to the scan settings of the selected job number.
B Select the scanner on the [Select Scanner] screen. 3 Click [ ], or click [ 4 Enter the administrator password. ] — [Copy job registration settings]. Enter the same password as for the Web menu. For details, see “Displaying the Web Menu of This Device” (p. 37). 5 Click [OK]. Jobs deleted from the CaptureOnTouch Job Tool are deleted from the scanner.
Using the Web Menu Displaying the Web Menu of This Device Since this device has the HTTP protocol, advanced settings can be configured or changed via a web browser. IMPORTANT • We recommend the following web browsers: Windows Displaying the Web Menu of This Device Hint This section describes operations for when the DR-M160II is being used. When using a different model, replace any instance of the model name with that of the model you are using.
3 Select the scanner from the list, and click [Property]. The device’s web page opens, and the login screen is displayed. Specifying the Device’s IP Address to Display the Web Menu Enter the device’s IP address in the address bar of the web browser, and press the Enter key. Example: Enter 192.168.0.10 (displayed as “http://192.168.0.10/”) The device’s web page opens, and the login screen is displayed.
Web Menu Settings This section describes the setting items on each of the pages of the web menu. Network Setting If you click [Network Setting] on the left menu, the page below is displayed. Scanner Name Setting If you click [Scanner Name Setting] on the left menu, the page below is displayed. Item Description Scanner Name Displays the device name of the connected scanner. Item Description Default Value DHCP Enable ([ON]) / disable ([OFF]) the DHCP protocol.
Item Description Default Gateway Set the gateway IP address of the device. If DHCP is enabled, the default gateway obtained from it will be applied. The value must be four decimal numbers separated by dots and expressed in the [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] format. Also, the gateway needs to be running in the same subnetwork as the device. 40 Default Value mDNS Setting If you click [mDNS Setting] on the left menu, the page below is displayed. 192.168.0.
Password Setting Maintenance Setting If you click [Password Setting] on the left menu, the page below is displayed. If you click [Maintenance Setting] on the left menu, the page below is displayed. In this page, you can restore the device’s factory default settings and update the firmware. Item Description Default Value Current Password Enter the current password. None Item Description Set the administrator password (up to 32 characters).
Software License The device includes software that is licensed under GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE (GPL), GNU LESSER GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE (LGPL), or proprietary licenses. You can view the original text of a software license via the device’s web menu. 1 2 3 42 Follow the steps in “Displaying the Web Menu of This Device” (p. 37), and display the [Device information] screen. Click [▼] to display the next page of the [Device information] screen. Click [Download] for [Third party license].
Troubleshooting Hint See the instructions for the access point you are using. Item Interface Resolution Cannot scan. Wired LAN/Wi-Fi If you have more than one scanner of the same model, did you select one that you did not intend to use with the software or in operation? Double check the connected scanner. • • • • • Wired LAN/Wi-Fi • • The scanner does not appear in the list on the scanner selection screen. The scanner automatically turns itself off, making the connection unavailable.
Item Interface Resolution Cannot connect to an access point. Wi-Fi • Confirm that the access point is operating correctly. • Confirm that the device is in Station mode. Turn both this device and the access point off and back on, and attempt the Wi-Fi connection again. • Electromagnetic emissions from cordless phones, microwave ovens, refrigerators, Bluetooth devices and other appliances can interfere with Wi-Fi signals. Keep this device and its access point away from such appliances.
