APPLICATION
Common Access Cards (CACs), issued by the Department of Defense
(DoD), and other Personal Identification Verification (PIV)-compliant
cards are components of the federal government’s initiative
to control access to its facilities and information systems. The
ScanFront 400 CAC/PIV scanner is designed to recognize these
cards in order to comply with federal government assurance policies
and mandates for sending digital data. The need for secure network
scanning can be found in government entities beyond the DoD, such
as the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, Justice,
Energy, and the Treasury as well as the Environmental Protection
Agency, and more. No matter the environment, secure scanning is
necessary to increase efficiency, reduce fraud, and protect privacy.
HIGHLY SECURE DOCUMENT SCANNING
The ScanFront 400 CAC/PIV scanner employs user authentication
by interfacing with card readers for CAC/PIV card scanning and
requiring password entry for physical device access. Document data
can be encrypted and sent in secure e-mails and digital signatures
(with non-repudiation) for further security. Administrators can
also impose additional security by configuring their own CAC/ PIV
card-specific options, controlling e-mails and security features
and managing trusted certificates. Containing no local hard drive,
the ScanFront 400 CAC/PIV scanner does not pose any threat by
storing information. The built-in Kensington lock slot serves as a
theft deterrent when compatible locks are secured.
COMPACT, USER-FRIENDLY, AND EASY-TO-USE DESIGN
Small in size, the ScanFront 400 CAC/PIV scanner allows for a
clear preview of scanned documents with a color LCD. Three USB
ports help to easily connect the necessary CAC/PIV-compliant
card reader (sold separately) as well as give the flexibility to
connect other peripherals, such as a keyboard or mouse, to make
installation and operation easier. By preconfiguring repetitive scan
tasks and sending information simultaneously to destinations such
as e-mail, shared folders, and FTP servers, electronic files are easily
distributed to all stages of the workflow.
