Preface Thank you for purchasing the Canon Voice Operation Kit. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the Voice Operation Kit to familiarize yourself with its capabilities, and to make the most of its many functions. After reading this manual, store it in a safe place for future reference. The Voice Operation Kit enables users of an imageRUNNER ADVANCE (hereinafter referred to as "the machine") to hear voice navigation instructions when operating the machine.
■Voice Operation Kit Quick Guide A pamphlet that provides a simple explanation on using the Voice Operation Kit. System Requirements for the Voice Operation Kit It may be necessary to expand the memory or add a PCI expansion slot to your machine to use the Voice Operation Kit, depending on the model of your machine.

Displays Used in This Manual Screen shots of the touch panel display used in this manual are those taken of the imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5051 with paper sizes displayed in inches, unless otherwise stated. Note that functions that cannot be used depending on the model or options, are not displayed on the touch panel display. [Direct] may be displayed as [1:1], depending on the region in which you live.
The keys which you should press are marked with a , as shown below. When multiple keys can be pressed on the touch panel display, all keys are marked. Select the keys which suit your needs. Press this key for operation. If you find it difficult to read what is on the touch panel display, reverse the display colors. The resulting display will have white text on a black background. For instructions on reversing the display colors, see "Reversing the Contrast of the Touch Panel Display," on p. 1-25.
You can adjust the key repeat speed used when performing operations using the touch panel display while using the Vocal mode. What Is the Voice Navigation Mode? ■ Types of Voice Navigation Modes There are three Voice Navigation modes: Manual and Vocal, Vocal, and Manual. •Manual and Vocal mode Enables you to hear Voice Navigation instructions explaining how to operate the machine from the control panel, as well as control machine operations using your own voice. •Manual mode Enables you to hear voice navigation instructions from the machine while operating the machine from the control panel.
1 •Vocal mode Enables you to operate the machine using your own voice. This mode requires that you are able to view the touch panel display, as no voice instructions can be heard in the Vocal mode. Please seek assistance, if necessary. Before You Start Using This Product 1 The relationship between each Voice Navigation mode and machine function or operation is indicated in the table below.

1 What Is the Voice Navigation Mode? 1-9 1 Before You Start Using This Product IMPORTANT • If your machine is equipped with the Device Information Delivery Settings mode and device information is being updated, input from the control panel keys may not be received, and Voice Navigation messages may not be heard. In this case, check the screen that is displayed on the touch panel display, or please seek assistance if you cannot hear Voice Navigation messages from the machine.
Parts and Their Functions Before You Start Using This Product 1 This section provides you with a description of the functions of the voice unit, microphone and speaker, control panel, and touch panel display. Press the upper switch to increase the volume, and press the lower switch to decrease the volume. f Voice Recognition Button Press before speaking into the microphone.
1 Control Panel Parts and Functions Before You Start Using This Product 1 When you are using the Manual and Vocal mode or Manual mode, a red rectangle (hereinafter called "the focus") appears over keys and settings on the touch panel display via operation of the control panel keys. When you are using the Vocal mode, the focus can be guided to keys and settings via your voice. The Focus Regular Copy Basic Features screen (The Manual and Vocal mode or Manual mode is set.
1 The Focus Regular Copy Basic Features screen (Only the Vocal mode is set.) When in the Manual and Vocal mode or Manual mode, use the numeric keys on the control panel to operate the machine. There are two types of control panels. IMPORTANT The type of control panel (i.e., the number and position of the keys) differs, depending on the machine model you are using. However, the key functions are the same. The differences between the two types of control panels are outlined below.
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 NOTE For the Type A and B control panels, the position and number of keys may differ, according to the model of the machine you are using.
1 Clear*1 Press to clear entered numbers or values. Reset*1 Press and hold for more than five seconds to start or stop the Voice Navigation mode, or press once briefly to restore copy settings to their default values. Counter Check Press to hear an explanation of the control panel keys. When you are in the Voice Navigation mode, the Counter Check screen of the machine is not displayed. *1 This key operates the same way in the Vocal mode.
1 Main Menu key Press to return to the main menu screen. Start*1 Press to start copying. Before You Start Using This Product 1 Stop*1 Press to stop a copy job in progress. Energy Saver*1 Press to set or cancel the Energy Saver mode. Control Panel Power Switch (Sub Power Supply)*1 Press to turn the control panel ON or OFF. When turned OFF, the machine is in the Sleep mode. Main Power Main Power Indicator Lights when the main power is turned ON. *1 This key operates the same way in the Vocal mode.
1 Processing/Data Error Indicator Blinks red when a paper jam occurs, or the machine has run out of paper. When the Error indicator maintains a steady red light, contact your local authorized Canon dealer. Processing/Data Indicator Flashes or blinks green when the machine is performing operations. When the Processing/Data indicator maintains a steady green light, fax data is stored in memory. Brightness Adjustment Dial*1 Use to adjust the brightness of the touch panel display.
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 Start Voice Recognition Press to start voice recognition. If the Manual and Vocal mode is set, voice recognition cannot be started when the machine is in the mode for entering numeric values. Pause Press to pause a Voice Navigation message. Back Press to move the focus to the left, or to the previous item. Select Press to select a setting. Next Press to move the focus to the right, or to the next item.
1 Current Screen and Item Press to hear the name of the current screen, and the item that is selected with the focus. Decrease Volume Press to decrease the speaker volume. Increase Volume Press to increase the speaker volume. Volume Settings Key Press to display the screen for adjusting settings such as the transmission volume and fax sending/receiving alarm volume. Quick Menu key Press to retrieve a favorite functions stored in Quick Menu.
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 Status Monitor/Cancel key Press to check the status of jobs or to cancel print jobs. Also, press to check status of the machine, such as checking the amount of paper remaining. NOTE • The example procedures in this manual use the Type A control panel. • The Energy Saver key, Control Panel Power Switch, Volume Settings key, Quick Menu key, and Status Monitor/Cancel key, cannot be used when in the Voice Navigation mode.
1 ■ Type B Control Panel IMPORTANT The differences between the Type A control panel and Type B control panel is that the control panel is supported by an arm above the machine. The (Counter Check), (Settings/Registration), (Control Panel Power Switch) keys are in different positions.
1 Microphone and Speaker Before You Start Using This Product 1 The Voice Operation Kit includes a voice unit, which contains a microphone and speaker for hearing Voice Navigation messages. ■ Using the Microphone and Speaker Microphone Speaker The voice unit is attached to the right side of the machine. CAUTION Do not connect any other devices into the jack for connecting the voice unit cable, as this may cause damage to the machine.
1 Take note of the following when using the microphone: •The microphone can be adjusted at a 180º angle from the front of the machine to the back. •The tip of the microphone (black part) can be bent. Adjust the position of the microphone to ensure that you can comfortably and easily speak into it. •Adjust the position and length of the microphone so that the tip of the microphone is close to the mouth (approximately 5 7/8" (15 cm) away) of the user who is speaking into it.
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 •Do not touch the microphone when you speak into it, as this may cause noise to enter the microphone, resulting in your voice not being recognized correctly. •When using an external microphone, make sure to use a microphone with a three-prong plug. The device will not operate correctly if you use a microphone with a two-prong plug.
1 Reversing the Contrast of the Touch Panel Display NOTE The default setting is 'Off'. Parts and Their Functions 1-25 1 Before You Start Using This Product You can reverse the contrast on the touch panel display for better viewing. The Reversed Display mode reverses the light and dark areas on the touch panel display. If you find it difficult to read what is being shown on the touch panel display, try using this mode. The resulting display will have white text on a black background.

Before You Start Using This Product 1 [On]: The colors of the touch panel display screen are reversed (i.e., the text on the display becomes white on a black background). [Off]: The touch panel display screen returns to its default colors. The touch panel display's contrast changes. 4 Press [OK] or [Close] until the Basic Features screen appears.

1 External Switch ■ Using an External Switch Example: a switch that can be operated using one's feet. Parts and Their Functions 1-31 1 Before You Start Using This Product A commercially available external switch can be used to recognize voices if you have trouble pressing the Voice Recognition button of the voice unit. You can use an external switch by connecting it to the external switch jack on the back of the machine using a 3.5 mm diameter monaural plug.
1 CAUTION Before You Start Using This Product 1 Do not connect any other devices to the jack for connecting an external switch cable, or connect the external switch cable when the main power of the machine is ON, as this may cause damage to the machine. NOTE • Contact your point of purchase for information on connecting an external switch cable or using an external switch. • You can still use the Voice Recognition button even if an external switch is connected.
1 Moving the Focus The focus encircles a selectable item. Move the focus over the desired item that you want to select ➞ press (Select). In the example above, the focus is over [Collate (Page order)]. To select the Collate mode, press (Select). To move the focus, press (Back) or (Next).
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 NOTE • The focus cannot be moved to functions, settings, or screens that are not supported by the Voice Navigation mode. • The focus is not displayed on any other screens other than the Main Menu screen, Copy Basic Features screen, Scan and Send Basic Features screen, Fax Basic Features screen, and Settings/Registration screen.
Main Power and Control Panel Power How to Turn ON the Main Power This section explains how to turn ON the main power. IMPORTANT Please seek assistance when performing this procedure. 1 Make sure that the power plug is firmly inserted into the power outlet. WARNING Do not connect or disconnect the power cord with wet hands, as this may result in electrical shock.
1 2 If the optional security key is inserted Before You Start Using This Product 1 in the machine, make sure that it is in the ON position (turn it to the right). Security When using the machine, insert the security key into the main unit, and then turn it to the right.
1 "I" side. The main power switch is located on the right side of the machine. 1 The main power indicator on the control panel lights when the main power switch is turned ON. 1 4 Various screens are displayed when system software is loading. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT The screen for entering the user name and password for the login service is not supported by the Voice Navigation mode. Also, the machine will not enter the Voice Navigation mode if a login service is being used.
1 ❑ The Start Up screen is displayed until the Main Menu screen appears. NOTE The time it takes for the Main Menu screen to display may differ according to the model of the machine you are using.

NOTE • For information on login services, see the instruction manuals that came with your machine. • You can change the display order of the function that appears on the Main Menu screen. (See the instruction manuals that came with your machine.
1 Shutting Down the Machine If there are any jobs currently being processed, or a MEAP application is running when the Shutdown mode is activated, the machine asks you to confirm and cancel any existing jobs, and then access to the hard disk is restricted. This procedure protects the hard disk from access errors the next time the machine is turned ON. When the machine shuts down, it also performs an internal cooling down process, which enables the machine to be shut down safely.
1 1 Press the main power switch to the " Before You Start Using This Product 1 " side. When operating the main power switch, open the main power switch cover. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT • If you want to be able to send or receive I-fax or fax documents, do not turn the main power OFF. Sending or receiving I-fax or fax documents cannot be done when the main power is turned OFF. • The machine may continue to operate during the shutdown process.
Setting Up the Machine for Voice Recognition You can operate the machine using your voice when the Manual and Vocal mode or Vocal mode is set. NOTE • For information on operating the 3machine using the numeric keys on the control panel, see "Moving the Focus," on p. 1-33.
1 1 Press the Voice Recognition button on the voice unit. Before You Start Using This Product 1 If you are using a commercially available external switch instead of the Voice Recognition button, press the external switch. NOTE If the Manual and Vocal mode is set, you can also press (Start Voice Recognition) instead of pressing the Voice Recognition button.

1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 IMPORTANT IMPORTANT • Your voice is not recognized until you press the Voice Recognition button and hear a tone. • If you are not sure which words are recognizable, press the Voice Recognition button, and say "voice command list." A list of recognizable commands is displayed. For instructions on using the Voice Command List, see "Using the Voice Command List," on p. 1-51.
1 Setting Up the Machine for Voice 1-47 Recognition 1 Before You Start Using This Product • If the word you say is not recognized (if it is not pronounced clearly or the specified command does not execute), try saying the word again following the guidelines below. -Say your command clearly and at a distance of no more than 5 7/8" (15 cm) away from the microphone. Speak into the microphone from as short a distance as possible if there is background noise. -Only certain phrases can be recognized.
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 -The voice unit may have difficulty recognizing your voice commands, depending on your surroundings. -Even if you say a recognizable word, it may not be recognized if you say filler words before or after the command, such as "um ...," or "please." -Do not break up words into syllables when saying them. -When saying a command, try not to wait too long between each word.
1 3 Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "start copy." A confirmation screen is displayed. Setting Up the Machine for Voice 1-49 Recognition 1 Before You Start Using This Product • Voice recognition is automatically canceled if no commands are recognized for a certain period of time (indicating that voice recognition has timed out.) Press the Voice Recognition button, wait for the tone, and then say your command again. (See "Setting the Voice Recognition Timeout Period," on p. 4-39.
1 4 Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ 1 Copying starts. Before You Start Using This Product say "yes." NOTE • Say "no" to cancel copying. • You can also press (Start) instead of saying "start copy." • You can also set the machine not to display a confirmation screen. (See "Display a Confirmation Screen for Start/ Reset," on p. 4-45.
1 Using the Voice Command List 1 Set the Manual and Vocal or Vocal mode. NOTE For instructions on setting the Manual and Vocal mode or Vocal mode, see "Setting the Voice Navigation Mode," on p. 4-2. Setting Up the Machine for Voice 1-51 Recognition 1 Before You Start Using This Product If the Manual and Vocal mode or Vocal mode is set, you can use the Voice Command List screen to confirm the words that can be recognized on each screen and how to pronounce them.
1 ●If you are in the Manual and Vocal mode: Before You Start Using This Product 1 ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "voice command list." You will hear a Voice Navigation message informing you that the Voice Command List screen has been displayed. Example: when the Voice Command List screen is displayed from the Regular Basic Copy Features screen.
❑ Press 1 (Select). The focus moves to the list, and the voice guide announces the first item in the list. ❑ Move the focus through the list of recognizable commands. As the focus moves over a command, you will hear the selected phrase. ❑ Press (Confirm), or press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "confirm.
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 ❑ Press (Confirm), or press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "confirm" to close the Voice Command List screen.You can also move the focus to [Close] ➞ press (Select) to close the Voice Command List screen. ●If you are in the Vocal mode: ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "voice recognition list." 1 The selected phrase and its number in the list are announced. ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "Close" to close the Voice Command List. Setting Up the Machine for Voice 1-55 Recognition 1 Before You Start Using This Product ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "list number X," where 'X' is the number displayed to the left of the phrase for the desired function.
1 Before You Start Using This Product 1 NOTE • If the Vocal mode is set and the phrase for the desired function is not displayed, say "previous page" or "next page" until the phrase for the desired function is displayed. • Close the Voice Command list before saying the phrase for the desired function.
Starting and Stopping the Voice Navigation Mode 1 Press and hold (Reset) for more than five seconds. You can also start the Voice Navigation mode by pressing and holding down the Voice Recognition button for more than five seconds. If an external switch is installed, press and hold the external switch for more than five seconds to start the Voice Navigation mode. The voice guide announces that the Voice Navigation Type Selection screen is displayed.
1 2 Select the desired Voice Navigation mode ➞ press [OK]. Basic Copying Features Before Making Copies Before making copies, press (Current Screen and Item) to confirm that you are on the Regular Copy Basic Features screen. If you hear the message "this is Copy Basic Features screen," proceed to step 3. If you hear a Voice Navigation message indicating a different screen other than the Copy Basic Features screen, press (Confirm) to return to the Main Menu screen and select [Copy].
1 NOTE • If a mode other than the Manual and Vocal mode is set, stop the Voice Navigation mode, and then select the Manual and Vocal mode after restarting the Voice Navigation mode. (See "Starting and Stopping the Voice Navigation Mode," on p. 1-57.) • If you do not hear any Voice Navigation messages, start the Voice Navigation mode. (See "Starting and Stopping the Voice Navigation Mode," on p. 1-57.
1 ❑ Insert a control card into the optional Card Reader. The Copy Basic Features screen is displayed. ● If Department ID Management is set: You will hear a message informing you that you must enter a Department ID and password. ❑ Move the focus to [Dept. When you hear that the focus is on the Copy, press (Select).
1 ❑ Enter the Department ID using (numeric keys) ➞ press (Confirm). When you enter the Department ID, the value that you enter is announced by the voice guide. The machine enters the mode for entering numeric values. ❑ Enter the password using (numeric keys) ➞ press (Confirm). When you enter the password, a beep sounds every time you press a key.
❑ Press 1 (Confirm). The Main Menu screen is displayed. When you hear that the focus is on the Copy, press (Select). The Copy Basic Features screen is displayed.
1 IMPORTANT • You can only enter your Department ID and password while in the Voice Navigation mode. However, setting up Department ID Management is not possible in the Voice Navigation mode. • When you are using the Manual and Vocal mode, or Manual mode, you cannot press (Confirm) to return to the screen for entering a Department ID and password. You must first stop the Voice Navigation mode, and then press (Confirm). (See "Stopping the Voice Navigation Mode," on p. 1-62.

1 Flow of Copy Operations 1 Place your originals on the platen glass or into the feeder. Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 The feeder is above the control panel with a plastic tray that can hold numerous originals, and contains two slide guides, which you can adjust to fit the width of your originals. The platen glass is a flat, square glass that is located under the feeder cover.

Place originals into the feeder when you want to copy several originals at the same time. Place your originals in the following way.
1 2 If you placed your originals on the platen glass, close the feeder. Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 If you placed your originals in the feeder, proceed to step 5. The paper size is automatically detected. If the detected paper size is incorrect, move the focus to [Select Paper] ➞ press (Select) ➞ select the appropriate original size from the Paper Selection screen ➞ press (Confirm).
1 3 Specify the desired copy modes from the Regular Copy Basic Features screen.
1 NOTE • On the Regular Copy Basic Features screen, you can hear Voice Navigation instructions for selecting the paper size and paper source, select paper, original type, color mode, zoom ratio, 2-sided copying, and Finishing mode settings. • Seek assistance when placing originals, removing unnecessary paper, and preparing to make copies if you have a visual impairment, if necessary. • Depending on the model of your machine, some functions may not be available.
1 Copying starts. IMPORTANT In the Voice Navigation mode, you cannot change the settings while copying. Basic Copying Features 2-15 2 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode If the following screen is displayed, follow the instructions on the touch panel display, or the Voice Navigation message ➞ press (Start) once for each original. When scanning is complete, move the focus over [Start Copying] ➞ press (Select).
1 NOTE • If there is a current job, the machine scans the original, and waits to print it. Printing starts when the current job is complete. • Remove your originals from the platen glass and the output tray of the feeder after you have finished copying. (If you have a physical impairment, please seek assistance when removing your originals, if necessary.
1 Specifying the Required Number of Copies 1 Press (Back) or (Next) to move the focus over the area to specify the copy quantity ➞ press (Select). Number of Copies Basic Copying Features 2-17 2 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode You can make up to 999 copies or 9,999 copies (depending on the machine model you are using) for each copy job. However, these numbers can be changed. For more information, contact your local authorized Canon dealer.
1 If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "number of copies." The voice guide announces that the machine has entered the mode for entering numeric values. If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say the number of copies you want to make.
1 (Confirm). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "confirm." The voice guide announces how many copies you have set. To change the number of copies specified, press (Clear) ➞ enter the correct number ➞ press (Confirm). IMPORTANT • You cannot change the number of copies while the machine is copying.
1 4 Press (Start). Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "start copy." If you said, "start copy," a confirmation screen is displayed. 5 If you said, "start copy," press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "yes." Copying starts.
1 Canceling a Copy Job 1 Press If you want to use the voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "stop." The copy job is canceled. 1 NOTE If you cancel a copy job while the machine is scanning, make sure to remove your originals.
Placing Originals NOTE If the original has too many pages to be placed in the feeder all at once, use the Job Build mode on the Options screen. For more information on using the Job Build mode, see the instruction manuals that came with your machine. The Job Build mode is not supported by the Voice Navigation mode. Please seek assistance if you need to use this mode.

1 NOTE • If the top edge of the original is not aligned with the back edge of the platen glass (by the arrow in the top left corner), your original may not be scanned correctly, depending on the copy modes that you have set. • Originals of the following sizes can be placed either vertically or horizontally. However, the scanning speed for horizontally placed originals is somewhat slower than vertically placed originals.
1 Platen Glass NOTE The machine automatically detects the size of the following originals: 11" x 17", LGL, LTR, and, LTRR, and STMTR/A3, B4, A4, A4R, B5, B5R, A5, and B6. 1 Lift the feeder. Sensor Placing Originals 2-27 2 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode You should use the platen glass when copying bound originals (such as books and magazines), heavy or lightweight originals, and transparencies. (See "Paper Selection," on p. 2-40.
1 IMPORTANT This machine is equipped with an open/close sensor on the feeder (see circled area in the above illustration). When placing originals on the platen glass, lift the feeder approximately 11 7/8" (300 mm) so that the sensor detaches from the feeder. If the sensor does not detach from the feeder, the size of the originals may not be detected correctly. Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 2 Place your originals face down.
1 Place books and other bound originals on the platen glass in the same way. NOTE When you are enlarging an LTR or STMT/ A4, B5 or A5 original onto 11" x 17" or LGL/A3 or B4 paper, place the original horizontally on the platen glass, and align it with the LTRR or STMTR/A4R, B5R, or A5R marks. Placing Originals 2-29 2 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode The surface of the original that you want to copy must be placed face down.
1 3 Gently close the feeder. Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 CAUTION •Close the feeder gently to avoid catching your hands, as this may result in personal injury. •Do not press down hard on the feeder when using the platen glass to make copies of thick books. Doing so may damage the platen glass and result in personal injury. IMPORTANT If you are placing the original on the platen glass, the size of the original is detected after the feeder is closed.
1 NOTE • Remove the original from the platen glass when scanning is complete.

1 1 Adjust the slide guides to fit the size of your originals. Placing Originals 2-35 2 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode • If the feeder rollers are dirty from scanning originals written in pencil, perform the feeder cleaning procedure. (See the instruction manuals that came with your machine.) The feeder cleaning procedure is not supported by the Voice Navigation mode. Please seek assistance if it becomes necessary to perform this procedure.
1 2 Neatly place your originals with the side to be copied face up into the original supply tray. Place your originals as far into the feeder as they will go, until the Original Set Indicator is lit. Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 Original Set Indicator If any dirt on the original scanning area is detected when the originals are placed in the feeder, the following screen appears. Even though streaks may appear on the copies, you can continue to scan your documents by pressing (Select).
1 For instructions on cleaning the original scanning area, see the instruction manuals that came with your machine. Placing Originals 2-37 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode It is recommended, however, that you open the feeder, clean the scanning area (thin glass strip on the platen glass’ left side) with a slightly dampened, well wrung-out cloth, and then close the 2 feeder. The following screen depicting how to clean the thin glass strip will not appear once the scanning area is clean.
1 This procedure must be performed manually, and therefore, there are no voice navigation instructions. Please seek assistance if you must perform this procedure. 2 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode IMPORTANT • Do not add or remove originals while they are being scanned. • When scanning is complete, remove the originals from the original output area to avoid paper jams.
1 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode NOTE • The scanned originals are output to the original output area in the order that they are fed into the feeder. • When you are enlarging an LTR or 2 STMT/A4 or B5 original onto 11" x 17" or LGL/A3 or B4 paper, place the original horizontally. • You can place different size originals together into the feeder if you set the Different Size Originals mode. (See the instruction manuals that came with your machine.
Basic Copy Settings Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 This section explains the procedure for specifying basic copy settings, such as selecting the paper size, and setting the Original Type, Color modes, Copy Exposure, Copy Ratio, 2-Sided, and Finishing modes in the Manual and Vocal mode. Paper Selection You can manually specify a paper size or set the machine to automatically select a paper size for you.
1 1 Place your originals. IMPORTANT • Only the paper size and paper type can be selected from the Paper Selection screen in the Voice Navigation mode. If you want to set a paper source to hold a specific paper size and type, you must change the paper loaded in the paper drawer and the size, and then set the type in [Paper Settings] in Settings/ Registration. For more information on changing the paper and paper type, see the instruction manuals that came with your machine.
1 2 Press (Back) or (Next) to move the focus to [Select Paper] ➞ press (Select). Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "select paper." The voice guide announces that the paper selection screen is displayed.
1 3 Press (Back) or (next) to move the focus to the paper source containing the desired paper size ➞ press (Select). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say the name of the desired paper source. For example, say "paper drawer 1" if you want to specify Paper Drawer 1. (See "List of Recognizable Phrases," on p. 5-11.

Setting the Copy Ratio You can set the machine to adjust the copy ratio automatically, or you can specify the copy ratio manually.
1 Preset Zoom The machine offers you a variety of preset copy ratios to reduce or enlarge standard size originals to another standard paper size.

1 Zoom by Percentage You can reduce or enlarge originals by any copy ratio in 1% increments. The available copy ratios are from 25% to 400%. The same copy ratio is used for the horizontal (X) and vertical (Y) axes. Follow the procedure below to set the Zoom by Percentage mode. 1 Place your originals. NOTE For instructions on placing originals, see "Placing Originals," on p. 2-23.
1 2 Press (Back) or (Next) to move the focus to [Copy Ratio] ➞ press (Select). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "copy ratio." NOTE Voice recognition cannot be started by pressing when the machine is in the mode for entering numeric values. 5 Press (Confirm). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "ok." The display returns to the Regular Copy Basic Features screen.
1 NOTE If you enter a value outside the setting range, you will hear a Voice Navigation message prompting you to enter an appropriate value. 1 Auto Zoom IMPORTANT •You cannot copy highly transparent originals, such as transparencies using the Auto setting on the Copy Ratio screen. Use the Preset Zoom or Zoom by Percentage mode instead. •To use the Auto setting on the Copy Ratio screen, your originals must conform to one of the standard paper sizes: 11" x 17", LGL, LTR, LTRR, STMT, or STMTR/A3, B4, A4, A4R, B5, B5R, A5, A5R, B6, or B6R (You can place B6 only on the platen glass. You can place the B6R and A5R only into the feeder.

Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 ● To manually set the copy exposure using the Manual mode: ❑ Press (Back) to move the indicator between [ ] or [ ] to the left to make the exposure lighter. ❑ Press (Next) to move the indicator to the right to make the exposure darker. The voice guide informs you of the position of the indicator (from -4 to +4).
1 If the indicator is brought back to the middle, you will hear the voice guide say, "standard." (Select). ● To manually set the copy exposure using the Vocal mode: ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "plus 1" or "minus 1." Say "plus 1" to make the copies darker. Say "minus 1" to makes the copies lighter. IMPORTANT When you make a copy, the copy exposure is automatically set to 'Standard' (between the lightest and darkest settings: '-4 to +4'). Negative numbers make the copies lighter.
1 5 Press (confirm). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "ok." 2 Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode NOTE To automatically adjust the background density, move the focus to [Auto] ➞ press (Select) or press the Voice Recognition button, say "auto." 6 Press (Confirm). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "ok." The display returns to the Regular Copy Basic Features screen. 7 Press (Start).

1 Changing Color Modes Making Copies in the Manual and Vocal Mode 2 This section explains the procedure for selecting a color mode using the color selection drop-down list. If the model of the machine you are using can make color copies, you can also select the color mode. You can select the following five types of color mode. NOTE The default setting is Auto(Color/Black).
1 IMPORTANT When the Auto(Color/Black) mode is set and your originals contain color sections, the machine copies them in the Full Color mode. However, the machine may copy color originals in the Black mode under the following conditions. To avoid this, set the color mode to 'Full Color'.
1 ■ Full Color The Full Color mode always copies in color regardless of whether the original is in color or black-and-white. 1 Collating Copies There are three Finishing modes that are supported by the Voice Navigation mode: Collate, Group, and Staple. IMPORTANT •The Finishing modes cannot be set if Transparency, Tracing Paper, or Labels is selected as the paper type. •The Finishing mode cannot be used with other copy modes, depending on the model of the machine. When the focus moves [Finishing], you hear a message "cannot select this with the current settings.
1 NOTE • To use the Staple mode, an optional finisher must be attached to the main unit. • The Face Up/Face Down mode enables you to specify whether to output paper face up or face down. Press [Face Up/Face Down], and then select from the following: - [Auto]: If you are copying a single page original, copying on nonstandard size paper, or other available paper that is loaded in the multi-purpose tray, the printed sheets are output face up. Otherwise, the printed sheets are output face down.
1 Collating Copies into Sets in Page Order Copies are automatically collated into sets arranged in page order. For example, if you copy a three page original, and specify to make three copy sets, three copy sets are output in page order from page 1 to page 3. 1 Place your originals. Basic Copying Features This section explains the copy operations that are supported by the Vocal mode. Before Making Copies Making Copies in the Vocal Mode 3 Before making copies, make sure that you are on the Regular Copy Basic Features screen. NOTE • If a mode other than the Vocal mode is set, stop the Voice Navigation mode, and then select the Vocal mode after restarting the Voice Navigation mode. (See "Starting and Stopping the Voice Navigation Mode," on p. 1-57.
1 ● If the machine requires a control card to begin machine operations: ❑ Insert a control card into the optional Card Reader. ● If Department ID Management is set: The message is displayed. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT • The Department ID and password cannot be entered using voice recognition. Please seek assistance, or use the Manual and Vocal mode. 1 IMPORTANT IMPORTANT • Place originals on the platen glass when copying bound originals (such as books and magazines), heavy or lightweight originals, and transparencies. Place originals into the feeder when you want to copy several originals at the same time. Place your originals in the following way. - Platen glass: Place your original face down, align the top edge of the original with the back edge of the platen glass (by the arrow in the top left corner).
1 2 If you placed your originals on the platen glass, close the feeder. The paper size is automatically detected. If the detected paper size is incorrect, say, "select paper," and then specify the desired paper source. (See "Paper Selection," on p. 3-16.
1 3 Specify the desired copy modes from the Regular Copy Basic Features screen. Items on the Regular Copy Basic Features screen that can be operated by your voice are enclosed in a red rectangle. 1 Making Copies in the Vocal Mode 3 If the following screen is displayed, follow the instructions on the touch panel display ➞ press the Voice Recognition button and say "start copy" once for each original. When scanning is complete, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "start copying." Copying starts. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT You cannot change copy mode settings, such as the copy quantity, paper size, and copy ratio, while the machine is copying.
1 NOTE If there is a current job, the machine scans the original, and waits to print it. Printing starts when the current job is complete. You can make up to 999 copies or 9,999 copies (depending on the machine model you are using) for each copy job. However, these numbers can be changed. For more information, contact your local authorized Canon dealer. 1 Confirm that the Regular Copy Basic Features screen is displayed.

The number of copies is displayed. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT • You must add the word "copies" after you say the number. If you do not add the word "copies," the number of copies you say will not be recognized. • You cannot change the number of copies while the machine is copying.

Basic Copy Settings Making Copies in the Vocal Mode 3 This section explains the procedure for specifying basic copy settings, such as selecting the paper size, and setting the Original Type, Color modes, Density, Copy Ratio, 2-Sided, and Finishing modes in the Vocal mode. Paper Selection You can manually specify a paper size or set the machine to automatically select a paper size for you.
1 1 Place your originals. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT Only the paper size and paper type can be selected from the Paper Selection screen in the Voice Navigation mode. If you want to set a paper source to hold a specific paper size and type, you must change the paper loaded in the paper drawer and the size, and then set the type in [Paper Settings] in Settings/ Registration. For more information on changing the paper and paper type, see the instruction manuals that came with your machine.

The Preset Zoom mode is set. ● To reduce or enlarge your originals by percentage: ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say a percentage, such as "120%." The zoom ratio you said is set.

1 Manual Exposure Adjustment You can manually adjust the exposure to the most appropriate level for the original. NOTE For instructions on placing originals, see "Placing Originals," on p. 2-23. 2 Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "darker density" or "lighter density." 1 The Density settings screen is displayed and then the Adjust Basic Level indicator moves automatically in the appropriate direction each time you say "darker density" or "lighter density." [Auto] is selected, and the background density is automatically adjusted to the appropriate density for the original.

Using Favorite Settings Favorite Settings enables you to register any possible combination of copy modes in a memory key. There are nine memory keys, and they can be named for increased convenience.

For example, if you want to recall copy settings in memory key M1, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "Favorite Settings 1." The Favorite Settings in the memory key is displayed.

1 Collating Copies The Finishing modes can be selected to collate copies in various ways, either by pages or copy sets. Collating Copies into Sets in Page Order Copies are automatically collated into sets arranged in page order. For example, if you copy a three page original, and specify to make three copy sets, three copy sets are output in page order from page 1 to page 3.

Setting the Voice Navigation Mode You can set whether to use the Voice Navigation mode when operating the machine. IMPORTANT When the Voice Navigation mode is disabled, the Voice Navigation mode will not start even if you press and hold (Reset) for more than five seconds. Customizing Settings 4 NOTE •The default setting is 'On'. •There is no Voice Navigation message available to guide you to Voice Navigation Settings screen in Accessibility (from Settings/Registration screen).

Setting the Maximum Volume of the Voice Guidance You can set the maximum volume of the Voice Guidance. If you are having difficulties hearing the Voice Guidance, set "Maximize." NOTE • This item is not supported with the Voice Navigation mode. • This setting can only be specified by the administrator. Customizing Settings 4 1 Press (Settings/Registration) ➞ [Preferences] ➞ [▼] ➞ [Accessibility] ➞ [Voice Navigation Settings] ➞ [Voice Guide Max Volume].
1 2 Select [Standard] or [Maximize] ➞ press [OK]. Customizing Settings 4 The specified volume is set. Standard: The volume is set to a standard volume. Maximize: The volume is set to a higher volume than a standard volume.
1 NOTE •Even if you change the settings, the volume setting for the Voice Navigation will not be reset. • If you specify [Maximize], the people in your vicinity may consider the sound to be too loud, depending on your environment. Tuning the Microphone You can set the microphone sensitivity for hearing your voice. 1 Press (Settings/Registration) ➞ [Preferences] ➞ [▼] ➞ [Accessibility] ➞ [Voice Navigation Settings]. If necessary, see the screen shot in step 1 of "Setting the Voice Navigation Mode," on p. 4-2." 1 3 Press [Start] ➞ say "microphone testing 1, 2, 3" on the screen within five seconds. Tuning starts.
1 Customizing Settings 4 NOTE • Press [Cancel] to stop tuning. • If you want to initialize the microphone sensitivity, press [Initialize] ➞ [Yes]. • The following screen is displayed when the machine is receiving a voice command.
1 4 Press [Start] and say "microphone testing 1, 2, 3" into the microphone again for confirmation. The machine automatically sets the appropriate microphone sensitivity based on your voice. NOTE • Press [Cancel] to stop tuning. • If tuning fails because of an error, a screen indicating so is displayed. In this case, press [OK] ➞ repeat the procedure from step 3.

Setting the Default Voice Navigation Mode NOTE •The default setting is 'Select Mode at Startup.' •The Voice Navigation is available for this mode. 1 Press (Settings/Registration). 1 [Manual + Vocal Mode]: Automatically sets the Manual and Vocal mode when the Voice Navigation mode is started. [Manual Mode]: Automatically sets the Manual mode when the Voice Navigation mode is started. [Select Mode at Startup]: Displays the Voice Navigation Selection screen when the Voice Navigation mode is started. NOTE For information on operating the machine when the Manual mode is set, see the Voice Guidance Kit User's Guide.
Setting the Auto Reset Mode You can set whether the machine initiates the Auto Reset mode to return to the Regular Copy Basic Features screen when the Voice Navigation mode is set. Customizing Settings 4 NOTE •The default setting is 'Off'. •The Auto Reset mode activates, and the specified modes are reset when you return to the Basic Features screen. •The Voice Navigation is available for this mode. 1 Press (Settings/Registration).

[On]: The Auto Reset mode is enabled in the Voice Navigation mode. [Off]: The Auto Reset mode is not enabled in the Voice Navigation mode. The selected mode is set.

Voice Type Settings You can set the Voice Navigation mode to use either a male or female voice. 1 Press (Settings/Registration). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "settings registration." The Settings/Registration screen is displayed. [Female]: Voice Navigation messages are heard in a female voice. The selected mode is set.

Volume and Voice Speed Settings You can set the volume and speed of Voice Navigation messages. Customizing Settings 4 IMPORTANT •The volume/speed you settings you specify are not enabled until you return to the Voice Navigation Settings screen. •Voice navigation is available for this mode. NOTE The default settings for the voice volume and speed are '0 (Standard)'. 1 Press (Settings/Registration). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "settings registration.

1 5 Adjust the volume. ● If the Manual and Vocal mode is set: Customizing Settings 4 ❑ Press (Back) to move the indicator to the left to decrease the volume, or press (Next) to move the indicator to the right to increase the volume ➞ press (Select). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "plus 1" to increase the volume, or say "minus 1" to decrease the volume. ❑ Press (Confirm).
1 ● If the Vocal mode is set: NOTE • If the Manual and Vocal mode is set, you can say "standard" to set the volume to '0'. • You can also use the volume adjustment switches on the voice unit, or and keys on the control panel to adjust the volume. If the Vocal mode is set, proceed to step 7. Volume and Voice Speed Settings 4-35 Customizing Settings ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "increase" or "decrease" continuously to adjust the volume one level at a time. There are nine volume levels.
1 6 Press (Back) or (Next) to to move the focus to the Speed indicator ➞ press (Select). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "speed." Customizing Settings 4 The focus moves to the Speed indicator. 7 Adjust the voice guide's reading speed. ● If the Manual and Vocal mode is set: ❑ Press (Back) to move the indicator to decrease the voice guide's reading speed, or press (Next) to increase the voice guide's reading speed ➞ press (Select).
1 If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "plus 1" to increase the voice guide's reading speed, or say "minus 1" to decrease the voice guide's reading speed. ❑ Press (Confirm). The selected mode is set.
1 ● If the Vocal mode is set: Customizing Settings 4 ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "faster" or "slower" continuously to adjust the speed one level at a time. There are 11 speed levels (from -5 to +5). As the indicator moves to the left, the speed decreases. As the indicator moves to the right, the speed increases. The selected mode is set. NOTE If the Manual and Vocal mode is set, you can say "standard" to set the speed to '0'.
Setting the Voice Recognition Timeout Period You can set how long the machine waits to hear a voice recognition command after the Voice Recognition button is pressed before voice recognition is canceled. 1 Press (Settings/Registration). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "settings registration." The Settings/Registration screen is displayed. Setting the Voice Recognition Timeout 4-39 Period Customizing Settings NOTE •The default setting is '5' seconds.

You can also press the Voice Recognition button and say "time out limit" to enter the mode for entering the number of seconds for the timeout period, instead of pressing (Select). The machine enters the mode for entering the number of seconds for the timeout period. ❑ Enter the time using (numeric keys).

Setting the Voice Recognition Timeout 4-43 Period 4 Customizing Settings ❑ Press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say the desired timeout time in seconds. You can also press [-] or [+] on the touch panel display to set the Command Reception Timeout time.
1 Customizing Settings 4 NOTE • The timeout period can be set from 0 to 10 seconds in one second increments. • If the timeout period is set to '0', the timeout period is not set. • If the Manual and Vocal mode is set, voice recognition cannot be started by pressing when the machine is in the mode for entering numeric values. 5 Press (Confirm). If you want to use voice recognition, press the Voice Recognition button ➞ say "confirm" to set the number of seconds for the timeout period.
Display a Confirmation Screen for Start/ Reset You can set whether to display a confirmation screen when a Start or Reset voice command is recognized, or a memory key is recalled. NOTE •The default setting is 'On'. •A confirmation screen is not displayed if the Manual mode is set. •The Voice navigation is available for this mode. 1 Press (Settings/Registration). Copy Mode Summary The following is an explanation of the copying modes that can be used with the Voice Navigation mode. This mode is best suited for making copies of originals that contain both text and photos, or originals, such as maps that contain fine text and diagrams.
