Introduction This Quick Start Guide uses the following symbols to indicate important information. Always observe the instructions indicated by these symbols. Safety Precautions Please read the safety warnings and cautions provided in this manual to ensure that you use the printer safely. Do not attempt to use the printer in any way not described in this manual. Warning z This product emits low level magnetic flux. If you use a cardiac pacemaker and feel abnormalities, please move away from this product and consult your doctor. z You may cause an electric shock, fire, or damage the printer if you ignore any of these safety precautions.
Cleaning the printer Use a damp cloth to clean the printer. Never use flammable solvents such as alcohol, benzene or thinners. If flammable solvents come in contact with electrical components inside the printer, it could cause a fire or electric shock. Always unplug the printer from the power outlet before cleaning the printer. If you accidentally switch the printer on while cleaning it, you could injure yourself or damage the printer.
Working around the printer Never put your hands or fingers in the printer while it is printing. Do not carry or store the printer with the front of printer (the Paper Output Slot Cover side) down. A failure can result. Do not place any object on the printer. Do not place metal objects (paper clips, staples, etc.) or containers of flammable solvents (alcohol, thinners, etc.) on top of the printer. If any foreign object (metal or liquid) fall into the printer, unplug the power cord and call for service.
Before Using the Printer Included Items Check that all the following items are in the box. Accessories The following accessories are available for this printer. Confirm the product names when you purchase the accessories. * Certain accessories may not be available in some countries or regions. Portable Kit LK-62 series This kit allows you to use the Canon printer in location where a power outlet is unavailable. The kit contains a battery pack (A) and a battery attachment (B).
Turning the Printer On and Off Turn on the printer before printing. Turning on the Printer Note If preparatory operations below are not complete, follow your setup sheet to complete them. z The Print Head and ink tanks are set into place. z The printer is connected to your computer (or a compatible device). z The printer driver is installed. 1 Open the Rear Tray Cover. The Paper Output Slot Cover will open automatically. 2 Press the Power button.
Turning off the Printer 1 To turn off the printer, press the Power button. When the Power lamp stops flashing, the printer is turned off. This takes a few seconds or as long as around 30 seconds. Note Auto Power Off Feature You can set the printer to turn off automatically. Set this setting in the Maintenance sheet of the printer driver in Windows®, and in the Canon IJ Printer Utility on a Macintosh®. For setting details, refer to the PC Printing Guide on-screen manual.
Loading Printing Paper This section describes how to load printing paper in the Rear Tray. Using Specialty Media Canon recommends that you use Canon genuine media to ensure optimal print quality.

Loading Paper Important z You cannot print on postcards affixed with photos or stickers. z Always load paper in portrait orientation (A). Loading paper in landscape orientation (B) can cause the paper to be jammed. (A) (B) Note We recommend using genuine Canon photo media when printing photographs. For details on the specialty media Canon provides for use with its various printers, see “Using Specialty Media” on page 10.
2 Prepare to load paper. (1) Open the Rear Tray Cover. The Paper Output Slot Cover will open automatically. (2) (2) Pull out the Paper Support completely until the mark and the mark are aligned. (1) (3) Adjust the position of the Paper Thickness Lever. The Paper Thickness Lever switches the clearance between the Print Head and the loaded paper to match the media type. Set it to the left when printing on envelopes or T-shirt transfers, and right when printing on any other type of the paper.
Loading Envelopes Use either European DL or US Comm. Env. #10-sized envelope. With proper printer driver settings, the address will be printed according to the direction of envelope. Important Do not use the following envelopes: z Envelopes with a double flap (or sticker flaps) z Envelopes with an embossed or treated surface z Envelopes with pressure seals z Envelopes whose gummed flaps are already moistened and adhesive 1 Prepare the envelopes.
2 Load the envelopes. (B) (1) Slide the Paper Guide to the left side of the Rear Tray. (2) Load the envelope against the guide on the right side of the Rear Tray. Load with the address side facing UP and the rear flaps DOWN on the left. Up to 10 envelopes can be loaded at once. (3) (2) (3) Slide the Paper Guide against the left side of the envelope. Do not slide the Paper Guide too strong. Paper may not be fed properly. (4) Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left.
Loading Small-Sized Paper You can use 4" x 6" / 101.6 x 152.4 mm, 5" x 7" / 127.0 x 177.8 mm, and Credit card-sized papers. . Important Always load paper in portrait orientation (A). Loading paper in landscape orientation (B) can cause the paper to be jammed. (A) 1 (B) Load the paper. (1) Slide the Paper Guide to the left side of the Rear Tray. (2) Load the small-sized paper against the guide on the right side of the Rear Tray with the print side facing UP.
Printing from Your Computer This section describes the procedure for basic printing. Printing with Windows 1 Turn on the printer and load the paper in the printer. For details on how to load the paper, see “Loading Printing Paper” on page 10. If you use the battery, make sure that it is charged. 2 3 Create a document or open a file to print using an appropriate application software. 4 Make sure that your printer’s name is selected in Select Printer, and click Preferences (or Properties).
Printing with Macintosh 1 Turn on the printer and load the paper in the printer. For details on how to load the paper, see “Loading Printing Paper” on page 10. If you use the battery, make sure that it is charged. 2 3 Create a document or open a file to print using an appropriate application software. 4 Make sure that your printer’s name is selected in Format for. 5 6 7 Select the desired paper size in Paper Size. 8 9 Select Page Setup on the application software’s File menu. Click OK.
Printing Photographs Directly from a Compliant Device You can connect a PictBridge compliant device such as a digital camera, camcorder, or mobile phone using a USB cable recommended by the device’s manufacturer, and print recorded images directly without using a computer. z Connectable Devices PictBridge is an industry standard enabling a range of digital photo solutions, including the direct printing of photos from a digital still camera, camcorder or mobile phone* without the need to use a computer.
2 Connect the PictBridge compliant device to the printer. Note Depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a print mode compliant with PictBridge before connecting the device. You may also have to turn on the device or select Play mode manually after connecting the device to the printer. Perform necessary operations on the PictBridge compliant device before connecting it to this printer according to instructions given in the device’s instruction manual.
About PictBridge Print Settings Settings on a PictBridge Compliant Device This section describes the print settings on a PictBridge compliant device. When operating the device, be sure to follow the instructions given in the instruction manual of your PictBridge compliant device. Note z In the following description, names of setting items are given according to those used in Canonbrand PictBridge compliant devices. Setting item names may be different depending on the brand or model of your device.
*6 Exclusively used to print photo stickers. When printing on sticker paper, select 4" x 6"/10 x 15 cm in Paper size and Photo for Paper type. Do not set Layout to Borderless. z Layout Setting Various layout options are available. z Bordered/Borderless: You can select whether or not to print an image with a border. z N-up: You can use this option when printing on sticker paper, or A4- or Letter-sized paper.
Routine Maintenance When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors Are Incorrect When printing becomes faint or colors are incorrect even if ink remains in the ink tanks, the print head nozzles are probably clogged. Print the nozzle check pattern to confirm the condition of the nozzles and then perform Print Head Cleaning. If print results are not satisfactory, performing Print Head Alignment may improve print quality.
Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern Print the nozzle check pattern to determine whether the ink ejects properly from the print head nozzles. Note Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern Without a Computer The nozzle check pattern printing can also be performed without a computer, using the RESUME/ CANCEL button. 1. Make sure that the printer is on and then load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray. 2. Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right.
1 Make sure that the printer is on and then load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray. Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right. For details on the Paper Thickness Lever, refer to “Front View” in “Main Components” of the User’s Guide on-screen manual. 2 3 Open the Canon IJ Printer Utility dialog box. Print the Nozzle Check Pattern. (1) Select Test Print in the pop-up menu. (2) Click Nozzle Check. (3) Confirm the displayed message and click Print Check Pattern.
Examining the Nozzle Check Pattern Examine the nozzle check pattern output by the printer, and clean the Print Head if necessary. Note The nozzle check pattern will not be printed correctly if there is not enough ink. Replace the ink tank if the remaining amount of ink is insufficient. See “Replacing an Ink Tank” on page 43. 1 Confirm the printed nozzle check pattern. (1) (2) (1) If lines of this pattern are missing, the Black print head nozzle needs cleaning.
Print Head Cleaning Clean the Print Head if lines are missing or if white streaks appear in the printed nozzle check pattern. Cleaning unclogs the nozzles and restores the print head condition. Note that cleaning the Print Head causes used ink to be absorbed in the ink absorber. Cleaning the Print Head consumes ink, so perform Print Head Cleaning only when necessary.
(6) Confirm the displayed message and click Print Check Pattern. The nozzle check pattern is printed. Do not perform any other operations until the nozzle check pattern finishes printing. Note The nozzle check pattern will not be printed correctly if there is not enough ink. Replace the ink tank if the remaining amount of ink is insufficient. See “Replacing an Ink Tank” on page 43. 4 Check the print head condition with the printed nozzle check pattern, and take the appropriate action.
(6) Confirm the displayed message and click Print Check Pattern. The nozzle check pattern is printed. Do not perform any other operations until the nozzle check pattern finishes printing. Note The nozzle check pattern will not be printed correctly if there is not enough ink. Replace the ink tank if the remaining amount of ink is insufficient. See “Replacing an Ink Tank” on page 43. 4 Check the print head condition with the printed nozzle check pattern, and take the appropriate action.
Print Head Deep Cleaning If print quality does not improve by standard Print Head Cleaning, try Print Head Deep Cleaning, which is a more powerful process. Note that cleaning the Print Head causes used ink to be absorbed in the ink absorber. Print Head Deep Cleaning consumes more ink than standard Print Head Cleaning, so perform this procedure only when necessary. 1 2 3 Make sure that the printer is on. Open the printer properties dialog box. Start Print Head Deep Cleaning. (1) Click the Maintenance tab.
1 2 3 Make sure that the printer is on. Open the Canon IJ Printer Utility dialog box. Start Print Head Deep Cleaning. (1) Make sure that Cleaning is selected in the pop-up menu. (2) Click Deep Cleaning. (3) Select the ink group to be deeply cleaned. Note Clicking Initial Check Items displays the items to be checked before deep cleaning. (4) Click OK. Print Head Deep Cleaning starts when the Power lamp starts flashing green. Do not perform any other operations until Print Head Deep Cleaning finishes.
Aligning the Print Head If ruled lines are printed misaligned or print results are otherwise unsatisfactory, adjust the print head position. Automatic Print Head Alignment For Automatic Print Head Alignment, follow the procedure below. Note z The print head alignment pattern is printed in black and blue only. z Aligning the Print Head without a Computer The Print Head Alignment can also be performed without a computer, using the RESUME/ CANCEL button.
(3) Confirm the displayed message and click Align Print Head. The print head alignment pattern is printed. Printing takes about 4 minutes to complete. Important Do not open the Print Head Cover while printing. Note Clicking Print Alignment Value prints the current settings and finishes Print Head Alignment. If the pattern is printed as shown right, the Print Head is aligned automatically. Note z If the pattern is not printed successfully, see “Alarm Lamp Flashes Orange” on page 67.

Manual Print Head Alignment If the results of Automatic Print Head Alignment are not satisfactory, follow the procedure below to perform Manual Print Head Alignment to precisely align the Print Head. For details on performing Automatic Print Head Alignment, see “Automatic Print Head Alignment” on page 33. 1 Make sure that the printer is on and then load two sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray. Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right.
3 Look at the first printout and adjust the print head position. (1) Check the printed patterns and select the number of the pattern in column A that has the least noticeable streaks. Note If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable vertical white streaks. (A) (B) (A) Less noticeable vertical white streaks (B) More noticeable vertical white streaks (2) Repeat the procedure until you finish inputting the pattern number for column N, then click OK.
4 Look at the second printout and adjust the print head position. (1) Check the printed patterns and select the number of the pattern in column O that has the least noticeable horizontal streaks. Note If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable horizontal white streaks.
5 Look at the third printout and adjust the print head position. (1) Check the printed patterns and select the number of the pattern in column W that has the least noticeable streaks. Note If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable white streaks.
(7) Confirm the displayed message and click Align Print Head. The print head alignment pattern is printed. Important Do not open the Print Head Cover while printing. Note Clicking Print Alignment Value prints the current settings and finishes Print Head Alignment. 3 Look at the first printout and adjust the print head position. (1) Check the printed patterns and select the number of the pattern in column A that has the least noticeable streaks.
4 Look at the second printout and adjust the print head position. (1) Check the printed patterns and select the number of the pattern in column O that has the least noticeable horizontal streaks. Note If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable horizontal white streaks.
5 Look at the third printout and adjust the print head position. (1) Check the printed patterns and select the number of the pattern in column W that has the least noticeable streaks. Note If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable white streaks.
Replacing an Ink Tank This section explains the way to confirm the ink status and the procedure to replace ink tanks. When ink runs out or other errors occur, the Alarm lamp flashes orange to inform you of the error. See “Alarm Lamp Flashes Orange” on page 67 and confirm how to handle it. When printing from your computer, error messages appear on your computer screen as well. Note z For information on the compatible ink tanks, refer to the back cover of this guide.
z With the Computer Screen You can confirm the status of each ink tank on the printer status monitor (Windows) and Canon IJ Printer Utility (Macintosh). (A) (A) (A) Confirm whether any symbols are displayed here. Ink is low. You can continue printing for a while, but we recommend you to have a new ink tank available. Ink may have run out. Confirm the number of the times the Alarm lamp is flashing, and see “Four Flashes: The Print Head Lock Lever is not locked properly.
(2) Select Ink Level Information in the pop-up menu. To confirm the ink tank information, click Ink Details. Replacing Ink Tanks When ink tanks run out of ink, replace them using the following steps. Important Handling Ink z To maintain optimal printing quality, we recommend the use of specified Canon brand ink tanks. Refilling ink is not recommended. z Once you remove an ink tank, replace it immediately. Do not leave the printer with ink tanks removed. z Replace empty tanks with new ones.
3 Prepare the replacement tank. Remove the new ink tank from its packaging, then remove the orange protective cap (A) from the bottom of the ink tank. Discard the cap once it is removed. (A) Important z Do not touch the electrical contacts (B) on the ink tank. Doing so can cause the printer to malfunction or become unable to print. z Shaking ink tanks may cause ink to spill out and stain clothing or the surrounding area. Handle ink tanks carefully.
4 Install the ink tank. (1) Insert the front end of the ink tank into the Print Head by aligning the mark on the ink tank with the mark on the Print Head Holder. (2) Press on the mark on the ink tank until the ink tank snaps firmly into place. (3) Make sure that the ink lamp lights up red. (1) (2) (3) Important z Install both ink tanks to print. The printer cannot be used unless both ink tanks are installed.
5 Close the Print Head Cover. Note z If the Alarm lamp still flashes orange after the Print Head Cover is closed, see “Alarm Lamp Flashes Orange” on page 67. z When you start printing after replacing the ink tank, Print Head Cleaning is performed automatically. Do not perform any other operations until Print Head Cleaning finishes. The Power lamp flashes green during cleaning.
Keeping the Best Printing Results To avoid drying of the Print Head and clogging of the nozzles, note the following. Note z Ink may blur depending on the paper in the following cases; – Printed area is traced with a highlight pen or paint-stick, or – Printed area is stained with water or sweat z If the print head nozzles get clogged, printouts will become faint or particular colors will not be printed properly. For details, “When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors Are Incorrect” on page 24.
Cleaning Your Printer This section describes the cleaning procedure that is needed to maintain your printer. Caution z Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar materials for cleaning so as not to scratch the surface. Paper tissue powders or fine threads may remain inside the printer and cause problems such as Print Head blockage and poor printing results. Make sure to use a soft cloth.
1 2 3 4 Make sure that the printer is on, and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray. Open the printer properties dialog box. Click the Maintenance tab and then Roller Cleaning. Confirm the displayed message, and then click OK. The Paper Feed Roller will rotate as they clean. 5 Make sure that the Paper Feed Roller stops rotating. When the message appears, load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in portrait orientation in the Rear Tray.
1 2 3 4 5 Make sure that the printer is on, and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray. Open the Canon IJ Printer Utility dialog box. Make sure that Cleaning is selected in the pop-up menu. Click Roller Cleaning. Confirm the displayed message and click OK. The Paper Feed Roller will rotate as they clean. 6 Make sure that the Paper Feed Roller stops rotating. When the message appears, load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in portrait orientation in the Rear Tray.
Cleaning the Inside of the Printer If the printed paper is smudged, the inside of the printer may be dirty. To always get best quality printing result, periodical cleaning of the inside of the printer is recommended. You can clean this part in two ways: z See “Cleaning with the Printer Driver (Bottom Plate Cleaning)” on page 53. z See “Cleaning the Protrusions Inside the Printer” on page 56.

Make sure that the printer is on, and then load only one sheet of paper in the Rear Tray. Load the paper folded in step 3 on the paper loaded in step 2. Load the paper folded in step 3 with the open side facing up. (A) Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right.
1 2 Prepare two sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper. 3 4 Fold the other paper in half widthwise, and then unfold it. Make sure that the printer is on, and then load only one sheet of paper in the Rear Tray. Load the paper folded in step 3 on the paper loaded in step 2. Load the paper folded in step 3 with the open side facing up. (A) Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right.
z Cleaning the Protrusions Inside the Printer If protrusions inside the printer are stained, wipe off any ink from the protrusions using a cotton swab or the like. Caution Be sure to turn off the power and disconnect the power plug before cleaning the printer.
Troubleshooting This section describes troubleshooting tips for problems you may encounter when using the printer. Note This section mainly describes the methods of printer operation for troubleshooting. To handle problems using your computer, refer to “Troubleshooting” in the User’s Guide on-screen manual. For details on how to view the on-screen manuals, see “Reading the On-screen Manuals” on page 78.
Cannot Install the Printer Driver Cause Action If you were unable to proceed beyond the Printer Connection screen, follow the procedure below to reinstall the printer driver. Unable to proceed beyond the Printer Connection screen. z When connecting with a USB cable (1)Click Cancel on the Printer Connection screen. (2)Click Start Over on the Installation Failure screen. (3)Click Back on the screen that appears next. (4)Click Exit, then remove the CD-ROM. (5)Turn the printer off. (6)Restart the computer.
Cause Installation does not start automatically when the Setup CD-ROM is inserted into your computer’s disc drive. Action (1)Click Start then Computer. In Windows XP, click Start then My Computer. In Windows 2000, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop. (2)Double-click the CD-ROM icon on the displayed window. If the contents of the CD-ROM are displayed, double-click MSETUP4.EXE. (1)Double-click the CD-ROM icon on your desktop to start installation.
Cannot Connect to Computer Properly Printing Speed Is Slow / USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Connection Does Not Work Cause Your system environment is not fully compatible with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. Action If your system environment is not fully compatible with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, the printer will operate at a lower speed provided under USB 1.1. In this case, the printer operates properly but printing speed may slow down due to communication speed. Check the following to ensure that your system environment supports USB 2.
Print Results Not Satisfactory If the print result is not satisfactory such as white streaks, misaligned lines, and uneven colors, confirm the paper and print quality settings first. z Check 1: Do the page size and media type settings match the size and type of the loaded paper? When these settings are incorrect, you cannot obtain a proper print result. If you are printing a photograph or an illustration, incorrect paper type setting may reduce the quality of printout color.
Printing Does Not Start/Printing Is Blurred/Colors Are Wrong/Straight Lines Are Misaligned Cause Action The media is loaded with the wrong side facing upwards. When using paper with one printable surface, make sure the paper is loaded with the printable side facing up. Printing on the wrong side of such paper may cause unclear prints or prints with reduced quality. Refer to the instruction manual supplied with the paper for detailed information on the printable side. Ink tank is empty.
Cause Action Inappropriate Paper Thickness Lever setting. Adjust the position of the Paper Thickness Lever according to the type of paper you are printing on. See “Loading Printing Paper” on page 10. Depending on the printing content, the printing surface may become scratched or the corners or edges of the paper may become smudged even for the types of paper to set the lever to the right. In this case, set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left.
Colors Are Uneven or Streaked Cause Action Print Head nozzles are clogged. See “When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors Are Incorrect” on page 24 and perform any necessary maintenance operations. Print Head is misaligned. If you did not align the Print Head after installation, straight lines may be printed misaligned. Make sure to align the Print Head after you install it. See “Automatic Print Head Alignment” on page 33 and perform Automatic Print Head Alignment.
Printer Moves But Ink Is Not Ejected Cause Action Ink tank is empty. Open the Print Head Cover of the printer to confirm how the ink lamps light or flash, and then take the appropriate action depending on the error condition. For details, see “Getting the Ink Status Information” on page 43. Print Head nozzles are clogged. Paper Jams Important If you need to turn off the printer to remove jammed paper during printing, refer to “Printing from Your Computer” in the User’s Guide on-screen manual to cancel print jobs before turning off the printer. Cause Action Paper jammed in the Paper Output Slot or the Rear Tray. Remove the paper following the procedure below. (1)Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Rear Tray or from the Paper Output Slot, whichever is easier.
Alarm Lamp Flashes Orange When a printer error occurs, the Alarm lamp flashes orange as shown below. The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the flashes and take the appropriate action to correct the error. Reload paper in the Rear Tray and press the RESUME/CANCEL button. Three flashes: Paper jam. The paper may be jammed.
Cause Action Nine flashes: No response from connected digital camera or video camcorder. / Connected digital camera or video camcorder is not compatible with this printer. / PictBridge compliant devices are attached to both Direct Print Port and Bluetooth Unit Connector. / Bluetooth units are attached to both Direct Print Port and Bluetooth Unit Connector. z A communication time out occurs if printing takes a long time or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel printing.
Cause Seventeen Flashes: Ink has run out. Action Ink has run out. (The lamp on the ink tank flashes.) Replace the ink tank and close the Print Head Cover. Printing under the current condition may damage the printer. If you want to continue printing in this condition, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. Press and hold the RESUME/CANCEL button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.
Message Appears on the Computer Screen Service Error 5100 Is Displayed Cause Movement of the Print Head Holder is blocked. Action Follow the procedure below to resolve the problem. (1)Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, turn the printer off, and then unplug the printer from the power supply. If the battery is attached, remove it once. (2)Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on after leaving it for five minutes or more.
Cause Action Printer port setting does not match the computer’s interface connecting the printer. Check the printer port settings. * In the following instruction, “XXX” signifies your printer’s name. (1)Log on as a user account with administrator privilege. (2)Click Control Panel, then Printer under Hardware and Sound. In Windows XP, click Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, then Printers and Faxes. In Windows 2000, click Control Panel then Printers.
Cause Your printer is not selected in Printer on the Print dialog box. Action Select your printer’s name in Printer on the Print dialog box. If your printer’s name does not appear in Printer, follow the procedure below to check that the driver for your printer is installed to your computer. (1)Select Print & Fax Preferences from Printer. In Mac OS X v.10.3.9, select Edit Printer List from Printer. (2)Check that your printer’s name is displayed in the list of printers and that the check box is selected.

Error Message Appears on a PictBridge Compliant Device The following are the possible errors that may occur when printing directly from a PictBridge compliant device and the countermeasures to clear them. Note z This section describes errors that are indicated on Canon-brand PictBridge compliant devices. The error messages and operations may vary depending on the device you are using.
Error Message On PictBridge Compliant Device Action “Hardware Error” If the battery is attached, the charge level of the battery is low. Connect the supplied Universal AC Adapter and charge the battery. For details on the charge level indication of the battery, refer to its instruction manual. If the error cannot be canceled, an Ink tank error has occurred. Confirm how the ink lamps light or flash, and then take the appropriate action depending on the error condition.
Appendix Carrying the Printer When you remove the power cord, carry the printer, or stand it up, check that the Power lamp is off. Important z If you repeatedly remove the power cord, carry the printer, or stand it up while the Power lamp is on or flashing, this may cause the ink to leak or the printer to break. (The same problem is caused even if you use the optional portable kit.) For details on turning off the printer, see “Turning off the Printer” on page 9.
