OPERATIONS

F.
Jam Detection
The copier monitors the movement of copy paper
using the following three
sensors:
*
Pre-registration sensor (Q3)
-
Separation sensor (Q5)
-
Delivety sensor
(SWB)
Jams are identified
in
terms of the presencel
absence of paper at respective
sensors
at
such
times as programmed
in
the microprocessor
in
ad-
vance.
The copier has mechanisms that remember the
“remaining number of copies” and the “copy modes”
in
response to a
jam,
and
such
data are retained for
about ten minutes after the front cover
is
opened,
cutting
out the power.
The microprocessor holds the following five jam
detection sequences and, further,
it
identifies a jam
if paper
is
detected at time of
power-on.
When the copier identifies a jam,
it
immediately
stops operation and
cuts
out
power to the fixing
heater (HI); at the
same
time,
it
flashes the ‘JAM’
indicatoron the control panel, indicating the location
of the
jam.
No
count
is
taken for jams which
activate
these
mechanisms.
