Before Use Initial Preparations Charging the Battery Pack Before use, charge the battery pack with the included charger. Be sure to charge the battery pack initially, because the camera is not sold with the battery pack charged. Prepare for shooting as follows. Before Use Still Images Movies On-Screen Frames Basic Guide A variety of frames are displayed once the camera detects subjects you are aiming the camera at. • A white frame is displayed around the subject (or person’s face) determined by the camera to be the main subject, and gray frames are displayed around other detected faces. Frames follow moving subjects within a certain range to keep them in focus. However, if the camera detects subject movement, only the white frame will remain on the screen.

Strange display on the screen under low light (= 21). Troubleshooting If you think there is a problem with the camera, first check the following. If the items below do not solve your problem, contact a Canon Customer Support Help Desk. • The screen may flicker under fluorescent or LED lighting. Power Nothing happens when the power button is pressed. • Confirm that the battery pack is charged (= 11). • Confirm that the battery pack is inserted facing the correct way (= 12).
No AF frames are displayed and the camera does not focus when the shutter button is pressed halfway. • To have AF frames displayed and the camera focus correctly, try composing the shot with higher-contrast subject areas centered before you press the shutter button halfway. Otherwise, try pressing the shutter button halfway repeatedly. Subjects in shots look too dark. Recording to the memory card takes too long, or continuous shooting is slower.
Playback stops, or audio skips. • Switch to a memory card that you have performed low-level formatting on with the camera (= 77). • There may be brief interruptions when playing movies copied to memory cards that have slow read speeds. • When movies are played on a computer, frames may be dropped and audio may skip if computer performance is inadequate. Sound is not played during movies. • Adjust the volume (= 62) if you have activated [Mute] (= 74) or the sound in the movie is faint.
