KCA SERIES A FEW WORDS ABOUT YOUR NEW AIR CONDITIONING UNIT REQUIRED TOOLS • • • • • • • Thank you for choosing a Carrier room air conditioner to cool your home or office. In addition to providing economical cooling comfort, Carrier room air conditioners filter and dehumidify the air in the room. This owner’s guide will supply all the information you need to install, operate, and maintain your new air conditioning unit. Please read the entire manual before installing the unit. See Fig.
INSTALLATION Make sure the window and frame are structurally sound and free from dry or rotted wood. Replace wood if necessary or relocate to different window. For maximum efficiency, install the air conditioner on the side of the house or building that has more shade than sunlight. Provide sufficient clearance for the air conditioner to allow proper air circulation through and around the unit. The rear of the unit must be outdoors (not in a garage or inside of the building). Provide 20-in.
KCA SERIES WINDOW INSTALLATION To install the room air conditioner in a window, perform the following procedure. 1. Check contents of installation hardware package provided with air conditioner. See Table 2. Make sure all the items are provided. 6. TABLE 2 —INSTALLATION HARDWARE PACKAGE ITEM 7. QTY 3/4-in. Screws 12 3/8-in. Screws 8 L-Bracket 2 8. 10. Secure the air conditioner to the bottom of the window sash with one 3/4-in. screw provided. Screw is installed through the hole in the center of the top channel of the air conditioner. See Fig. 8. 11. Pull out the expanding side shutters from the sides of the air conditioner. The panels should expand to cover the entire width of the window. There is a hole provided in the top end of each side shutter which is used to secure the panels to the window.
KCA SERIES STORM WINDOW APPLICATIONS a thermostat dial to set desired room temperature. See Fig. 10. The electronic control consists of a control panel and a remote control. Both the control panel or the remote control can be used to set cooling and fan modes and adjust the desired temperature. See Fig. 11. Other additional features are provided.

KCA SERIES TIMER MODE — Your Carrier Air Conditioner unit can be programmed so that the unit will shut off after a certain number of hours (if operating) or turn on after a certain number of hours (if off). Press the Timer button to start the Timer mode. The number of hours will start at 0. The range is 0 to 24 hours. If the unit is operating, the number of hours until the unit will turn off will be displayed. If the unit is off, the number of hours until the unit will turn on will be displayed.
TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM UNIT DOES NOT START UNIT NOT PROVIDING ENOUGH COOLING CAUSE Unit may have become unplugged. Fuse may have blown. Circuit breaker may have tripped. Unit mode may be set to OFF. INSTALLATION peut être nécessaire d’apporter certaines modifications pour s’assurer d’une installation sûre et adéquate. KCA SÉRIE INSTALLATION À LA FENÊTRE 4. Pour les contre-fenêtres, ouvrez ou enlevez la contre-fenêtre extérieure avant d’installer le climatiseur. Enlevez les moustiquaires de la fenêtre. 5. Installez les volets latéraux (compris). Les volets latéraux sont identifiés comme « droit » et « gauche » sur chaque cadre. Glissez les cadres supérieur et inférieur du volet dans les guides du caisson correspondants. Attachez les volets au caisson à l’aide des vis de 3/8 po (0,95 cm) (comprises).
9. Fixez le climatiseur à l’appui de la fenêtre. Consultez la Figure 8. Enlevez les vis de 3/8 po (0,95 cm) du bas de chaque côté du climatiseur. Installez les supports latéraux (compris) de chaque côté du climatiseur à l’aide des vis que vous avez retirées. Ne les vissez pas complètement. Installez les supports latéraux sur le châssis de la fenêtre, à côté du climatiseur, à l’aide de deux vis de 3/4 po (1,875 cm) (comprises) pour chaque support.
KCA SÉRIE APPLICATIONS AVEC UNE CONTREFENÊTRE Les commandes mécaniques consistent en un cadran pouvant être réglé à divers modes de climatisation et de ventilation ainsi qu’un cadran thermostatique permettant de régler la température ambiante désirée. Consultez la Figure 10. La commande électronique consiste en un panneau de commande et une télécommande.

Le mode Auto (automatique) ajuste la vitesse du ventilateur automatiquement de bas à haut selon le réglage du thermostat et la température ambiante actuelle. Le mode automatique peut seulement être utilisé en mode de climatisation. • Lorsque la température extérieure est assez fraîche, n’utilisez que le mode de ventilation.
REMPLACEMENT DE LA PILE DE LA TÉLÉCOMMANDE Pour remplacer la pile, repérez la languette au dos de la télécommande. Avec un ongle ou un tournevis, faites glisser le couvercle du compartiment de la pile à l’aide de la languette. Retirez la vieille pile et recyclezla. Insérez la nouvelle pile dans le compartiment, les chiffres vers le haut. La pile ne s’insère que d’une façon dans le compartiment. Remettez délicatement le couvercle du compartiment de la pile en place.

SERIE KCA ALGUNAS OBSERVACIONES SOBRE SU NUEVA UNIDAD DE AIRE ACONDICIONADO antes de instalar la unidad. Vea la Fig. 1 donde se identifican y describen las piezas de la unidad. HERRAMIENTAS NECESARIAS Gracias por escoger una unidad de aire acondicionado Carrier para climatizar su hogar o su oficina. Además de crear comodidad y una climatización fresca y económica, las unidades Carrier filtran y deshumidifican el aire de la habitación.
INSTALACIÓN UBICACIÓN El acondicionador de aire está fabricado para caber con facilidad en ventanas de una o de dos hojas. No obstante, debido a que hay distintos diseños de ventanas, es probable que sea necesario hacer algunas modificaciones para realizar la instalación apropiadamente y de forma segura. Compruebe que la ventana y el marco estén en buena condición y que no haya madera reseca ni podrida. Reemplace la madera si es necesario o haga la instalación en otra ventana.
SERIE KCA INSTALACIÓN VENTANA 4. Si hay dos ventanas instaladas, abra o quite la ventana exterior antes de instalar la unidad. Quite las mamparas de tela metálica que haya instaladas en la ventana. 5. Instale los postigos laterales (incluidos). Los postigos están identificados en cada marco como derecho e izquierdo. Deslice el marco de los postigos por los canales de la caja (arriba y abajo) de la unidad. Fije los postigos a la caja con los cuatro tornillos de 3/8 de pulgada (incluidos). Vea la Fig. 3. 6.
9. Asegure el acondicionador de aire al batiente de la ventana. Vea la Fig. 8. Quite el tornillo de 3/8 de pulg. en la parte inferior de cada uno de los lados de la unidad. Instale a ambos lados de la unidad los soportes laterales (incluidos) con los tornillos que se sacaron en el paso anterior. No apriete del todo los tornillos. Instale sobre el batiente de la ventana los soportes laterales al lado de la unidad de aire acondicionado y use dos tornillos de 3/4 de pulg. (incluidos) para fijar cada soporte.
SERIE KCA APLICACIONES CON DOBLE VENTANA Los controles mecánicos consisten de un dial que se puede ajustar a distintas modalidades de enfriamiento y de ventilador, y otro para el termostato con el que se ajusta la temperatura deseada en la habitación. Vea la Fig. 10. El control electrónico consiste de un panel de control y de un mando a distancia.

SERIE KCA En días muy calurosos o cuando se quiera enfriar rápidamente la habitación se recomienda usar la modalidad High (máxima) del ventilador. La modalidad Medium (media) es recomendable en días moderadamente calurosos o cuando la unidad ha funcionado durante un tiempo y la temperatura está a punto de alcanzar el grado deseado. La modalidad Low (mínima) es recomendable en días no muy calurosos o cuando la temperatura de la habitación ha llegado al punto deseado.
CUIDADO DEL MANDO A DISTANCIA Para cambiar la pila, use el seguro al dorso del mando. Con la uña del dedo o con un destornillador, saque el portapilas con el seguro. Saque la pila gastada y recíclela. Meta una pila nueva en el portapilas con los números mirando hacia arriba. La pila sólo se puede meter en una posición. Deslice cuidadosamente el portapilas dentro del mando. El mando a distancia debería durar indefinidamente si se cuida debidamente. No lo exponga directamente al calor.
