Hearing Japanese
Pronunciation
You can jump to another dictionary from
the definition screen of a term you looked
up, and hear Japanese pronunciation.
Perform the procedure below from the
definition screen in step 5 of the column
to the left.

Touch【ジャンプ】 (Jump).
•
This displays the icon and highlights
the first character of the definition text.

Use , , , and to
move the highlighting to
“雨”.

Touch 【選択】(Select).
•
This displays a list of jump destination
dictionary candidates.

Touch “NHK 日本語発音アクセント辞
典”
twice.

Press
(Menu) to display
the menu screen.
•
The currently selected tab and the
dictionary will be highlighted in green.
Category tabs: [
国語
] (Japanese),
[
英語
] (English), etc.

Touch the [ 国語 ] (Japanese)
tab.
Touch [
国語

Press to move the
highlighting to
“旺文社標準国語辞
典”

Select
“旺文社標準国語辞典”

You can use the following keys to
move the highlighting: , , ,

Press (Translate/
Execute).
•
This displays the initial screen of the
selected dictionary.
Example: To look up
“大水（おおみず）”
in
“旺文社標準国語辞典”
(Japanese
Dictionary), and then jump to
“
NHK
日本語発音アクセント辞典”
to
hear the pronunciation of
“雨” （ア
メ・
ame
）
Looking Up a Japanese Term
Use the stylus to write the term you
want to look up.
•
The stylus is stored in a slot on the back of
the electronic dictionary. For details, see
“各部の名前と働き”
(Names and Functions
of Each Part), in the yellow pages at the
beginning of the “取扱説明書” (User’s Guide).
Getting Ready
Display the initial screen of “旺文社
標準国語辞典”
.
•
For details, see “Selecting a Dictionary”.

Confirm that “見出し語検索”
(Headword Search) is selected.
•
The currently selected item will be
highlighted in green.
•
If “見出し語検索” (Headword Search) is
not selected, touch
“見出し語検索”
.

Touch 【入力】(Input).
•
This will display input boxes or a soft
keyboard. Touching
【入力】again will
hide the input boxes/soft keyboard.

Touch .

Use the stylus to write “大水” and
then touch
【認識】(Recognize).
•
The character that results from the
handwriting recognition will appear to
the right of “見出し語検索”, and a list of
terms that start with the character will
appear under “見出し語検索”.
•
You can input one character per box.
If the resulting character is not
what you expected, touch the
character to the right of
“見出
し語検索”
. This will display
other possible candidates in
place of the two handwriting
input boxes. Touch the
character you want to use.
If the character you want
is not included among the
candidates, touch
【書き直し】
(Rewrite) and then handwrite
the character again.

Touch “おおみず【大水】”.
•
If the candidate you want is at the top
of the list, touch it once. If it is not at
the top of the list, touch it twice.
•
This will display the definition screen.

Introduction
The first thing you should do is to read “初めてお使い
になるときは”
(Before Using Your Electronic
Dictionary for the First Time), in the yellow pages at
the beginning of the
“取扱説明書” (User’s Guide), and
prepare your electronic dictionary for use.
Selecting a Dictionary
You can use the menu screen to select one of the
dictionaries. The example below show how to select
the
“旺文社標準国語辞典” (Japanese Dictionary), which
is in the
“国語” (Japanese) category.
Looking Up a Japanese Term
The procedures below show how to input and search for a Japanese term, and how to jump to another dictionary from a
definition screen and hear Japanese pronunciation.
