3. Alignment
Thecateyereflectorarrangementisself-aligning,andshouldnot
requireadjustment.However,laserdiodeshaveafinitelifetime,and
diode replacementmay necessitate alignmentof theinternal optics,
in particular the diode collimation and cateye lenses.
Forlongerwavelengthlasers,aninfra-redupconversioncardorCCD
cameracanbe veryhelpful. Commonlow-cost security cameras,
computerUSBcameras,andhomemovieorstillcamerasarealso
goodoptions,althoughtheyoftenhaveinfraredfilterswhichmay
need to be removed.
Diodesareverysensitivetoelectrostaticdischarge. Pleasemake
sureyouareelectricallygrounded,ideallywithawristgroundstrap.
If youdo not havea proper wristground strap, atleast be sureyou

the MOGLabs DLCcontroller).
3.1 Pre-alignment of lens tube and diode
1. Insertthelaserdiodeintothelenstube(seeFig.3.1).Ifusing
a lenstube withalignment screws,ensure thatthe V-notchin
the diode is aligned with one of the alignment screws.
2. Addtheretainingthreadedring,andtightengently,justenough
such that the diode does not move.
3. Ifusingalenstubewithalignmentadjustmentscrews,usethe
5.6mm retaining ring even for 9mm diodes.
4. Approximatelycentrethediodeusingthealignmentadjust-
ment screws and two 0.9mm hex keys.
