2.11. Smart-Terminal Program Description
This program can be used for communication protocol debugging and testing. It is written in Visual
Basic for Windows 95 environment and provides basic control on the ICU and BEAMER parameters,
via the RS485 or RS232 serial communication ports.
The program is primarily oriented for engineering debugging and it is not intended to be used as a
commercial interface to the ICU. For this purpose, Celletra has developed the more powerful and user
friendly BSM program. However this program is not needed for ICU operation, since it is operated
with the MBTS controller supervision.
Note that when interfacing the ICU with RS485 interface to a PC, an appropriate hardware converter
should be used for the RS485.
In the following description the following notations are used:
Bold italic characters, i.e., System Setup - represent drop down menu.
Bold characters, i.e., Send - represent a 'radio' button or on screen displayed data.
Quoted italic characters, i.e., ‘Commands’ - represent a directory or a file name.
2.11.1. Program Installation
The program is installed with the setup.exe file. The program was tested on Windows 95/98 machine,
environment. Other known problem is that the file "TDoubleRangeValidator.ocx" will not install
correctly. This file should be installed in Windows/System directory. It was found that sometimes it
will not be installed or the installed file will not be recognized. If this happens, it is recommended to
install the file manually, using the attached updated "TDoubleRangeValidator.ocx" file. Just copy the
file to the Windows/System directory.
The program will be installed under 'C:/Program Files/Smart Terminal2'. After the installation, copy
the attached 'Commands' directory to 'C:/Program Files/Smart Terminal2/Commands' directory. This
directory contains the command scripts for the ICU to PC communication protocol (see below).
Following the installation, a shortcut named 'Smart terminal2' will be created in the Start/Programs
menu.
2.11.2. Running the Program
Run the program by clicking the 'Smart terminal2' shortcut on the start/programs menu. The
program has one drop-down menu item available: System Setup. Pressing the system-setup
tab will reveal three menu items: Com Port, Get File and Save File.
