WEPistheacronymofWiredEquivalentPrivacy.Itisabasicencryptionmethod.Thesafetyisnot
ashighasthatofothersecuritytypes.IfWEPisselected,thegatewaywillusethebasicWEP
securitymode802.11.
Hereitshallbenoticedthat802.11Ndoesnotsupportthisencryptionmethod,Ifyouselectsuch
encryptionmethod,theroutermightoperateatalowtransmittingrate.SeethebelowFig.forthe
specificsettings.
WEPsecuritymodesincludesOPENWEP,SHAREDWEPandWEPAUTO.
WEPAUTO:Ifselected,thegatewaywillautomaticallyselecttoopenthesystemorsharethekeyas
perthehost’srequest.
OPENWEP:Ifselected,thegatewaywillusetheopensystemmethod.Then,thehostsinsidethe
wirelessnetworkcanaccessthewirelessnetworkthroughauthenticationandassociationwithout
provisionofauthenticationpassword.However,ifrequiredtodeliverthedata,thecorrect
passwordmustbeprovided.
SHAREDWEP:Ifselected,thegatewaywillusethesharedkey.Then,thehostsinsidethewireless
networkmustbeauthenticatedthroughthecorrectpassword,otherwisetheywillbeunableto
associatewiththewirelessnetworkandfurthermoredeliverthedata.
TheformatofWEPkeyincludeshexadecimal(Hex)andASCIIcode.IfusingHex,thecharactersof
keywill be only09,A,B,C,D,EandF.IfusingASCIIcode.thecharactersofkeycan beany of
charactersonkeyboard.Thedefaultkey,WEPkeyandkeytype:theseitemsareusedtoselectthe
key,settheconcretekeyvalueandselectthekeytype.Thekeylengthisaffectedbythekeytype:
theHexkeyneedstoinput10or26characters,whileASCIIcodeneedstoinput5or13characters.
Onlyoneorsomeof4keysinthekeyselectioncouldbeused.Inanycase,thekeyofclients
wirelessadaptormustbesetcorrespondingly.
3.2WPAPSK/WPA2PSK
WPA‐PSK/WPA2‐PSKsecuritytypeisactuallythesimpleversionofWPA/WPA2,itisbasedon
WPAmodewiththesharedkeyandithasahighsecurityandsimplesetupwhichissuitablyused
forthecommonhouseholdconsumerandsmallenterprise.SeethebelowFig.forthespecific
settings.
WPA‐PSK/WPA2‐PSKsecuritymodeincludesWPA‐PSK,WPA2‐PSKandWPAPSK/WPA2PS K.
WPA‐PSK/WPA2‐PSK:Ifselected,thegatewaywillautomaticallyselectWPA‐PSKorWPA2‐PSK
securitymodeasperthehost’srequest.
WPA‐PSK:Ifselected,thegatewaywilluseWPA‐PSKsecuritymode.
WPA2‐PSK:Ifselected,thegatewaywilluseWPA2‐PSKsecuritymode.
WPAalgorithm:Usedtoselectthesecurityalgorithmforencryptingthewirelessdata.Theoptions
haveTKIP,AESandTKIP/AES.Because802.11NmodedoesnotsupportTKIPalgorithm,the
gatewaymightoperateatalowtransmittingrate.It’srecommendedtouseAESencryption.
Password:ItistheinitialsettingkeyforWPA‐PSK/WPA2‐PSK,itisrequiredtohave8‐63ASCII
charactersor8‐64Hexcharacters.
Keyupdateinterval:Usedtosetthetimingupdateperiod(insecond)ofbroadcastandmulticast
key.Theminimumis30.Ifthevalueis0,itmeansnoupdate.
