PREPARING TO USE YOUR GRILL Before cooking with your grill, the following steps should be closely followed to both cure the finish and season the interior steel. Failure to properly follow these steps may damage the finish and/or impart metallic flavors to your first foods. Brush all interior surfaces including grills and grates with vegetable cooking oil.  Build a small fire on the charcoal grate, being sure not to lay coals against the walls.

COOKING TIPS Building Your Fire 1.) Stack charcoal briquettes or wood into a pyramid-shaped pile on top of the charcoal grate. We recommend using 2 pounds (approximately 30 briquettes) to start your fire, adding more as needed. 2.) If using lighter fluid, saturate the charcoal briquettes with lighter fluid and let it soak in for approximately 5 minutes. If using a chimney starter, electric starter, or other type of fire starter, light your fire according to the manufacturer's instructions. 3.

Direct and Indirect Grilling Direct Grilling - For most grilling, the ignited coals are spread in a single layer under the food. This is called direct grilling and is appropriate for relatively quick-cooking items such as hamburgers, steaks and most seafood. The single layer of coals emits even, steady heat, whether the grill lid is open or closed, and represents the way most people grill. For more control, pile some of the coals on one side of the grill where they will emit intense heat.

ASSEMBLY 1 1/4-20x1/2” screws Total of 4 each To begin assembly, Attach the legs to the underside of the Firebox using 2 each 1/420x1/2” screws and 2 each 1/4-20 flange nuts per leg. Insert screws from inside the firebox all nuts go on the outside of the firebox. Tighten all nuts securely. 1/4-20 nuts total of four each 2 Attach the lid handle to the grill lid by inserting the handle rod into the holes in the lid. Secure the handle with two 1/4x20 flange nuts from underneath the grill lid.

3 Attach the side handles to each side of the grill using 2 each 1/4-20x1/2 ” screws and 2 each 1/4-20 flange nuts per side. Install flange nuts from inside the grill. Tighten securely. 4 Install the Ash Pan Handle by inserting it into the holes in the Ash Pan. Secure with 2 each 1/4-20 flange nuts.

5 Slide the Ash Pan into the grill as shown. 6 Place the wire Charcoal grate into the bottom of the grill. Next, place the cast iron Cooking Grates into position Cast Iron Cooking Grates Wingnut Wire Charcoal Grate Your Tabletop grill is now complete.

CONVERSION OF 12301714 CHARCOAL GRILL TO AN OFFSET SMOKER. This tabletop grill can be used to convert a model 12301714 Charcoal Grill into an offset smoker. Be aware that the conversion involves above average metalworking skills and tools not typically available to the average consumer. Also be aware that once this conversion is complete, it is not reversible.  Be sure to wear safety equipment suitable for this job such as gloves and safety glasses.

3 CAUTION: Wear Safety Glasses and Gloves! Next, working from outside the grill, use your hammer and drift punch to bend the screw hole tabs inwards. If the tabs do not break off completely, use your pliers from the inside the grill to twist the tabs until they break off. There are six holes that will need punched out as indicated with circles below. Tab 4 CAUTION: Wear Safety Glasses and Gloves! Prepare your Model 12301714 Charcoal grill to receive the firebox.

5 CAUTION: Wear Safety Glasses and Gloves! Next, working from outside the grill, use your hammer and drift punch to bend the screw hole tabs inwards. If the tabs do not break off completely, use your pliers from the inside the grill to twist the tabs until they break off. There are six holes that will need punched out as indicated with circles below. Tab 6 This step requires a helper! The 12301714 Grill is now ready to receive the firebox.

7 Next, install the front Connector Tube by inserting a 1/4-20x2" screw from inside the firebox, through one of the 12x33mm Connector Tubes, then into the 12301714 grill leg bracket. Secure with a 1/4-20 flange nut. Repeat for the rear side. Fully tighten all hardware installed. 1/4-20 Flanged Hex Nut Qty. 2 1/4-20x2” Hex Head Screw, Qty. 2 NOTE: The tabletop firebox is shown with the legs attached. You may choose to remove the legs.
