Stability of unloaded unit
Stability with load Open one drawers to the outstop or, in the
absence of such feature, to 2/3 (66 %) of
their operational sliding length. All other
drawers and doors not undergoing testing
shall be in the closed position unless they
must be opened to access other
component behind them. Gradually apply
test weights over the front of each drawer.
For doors, apply test weights to each door
so that the outer edge of the test weight is
flush with the outermost upper corner of
the door.
Repeat above test procedure to test with
one door open to 90° Closed door and
repeat with another door until all doors
have been tested.
The unit shall not tip over or be supported
by any component unless that component
was specifically designed for that purpose.
Tipover restraints test Assemble tipover restraint components
including provided fasteners in accordance
with manufacturer’s instructions.
Rigidly suspend the assembly by securing
one end of the tipover restraint by gripping
directly, or attaching to a fixed structure (for
example, wooden block). See Fig. 1 in
standard for test method examples for
commonly used tipover restraints.
Attach a loading device to the fastener(s)
on the opposite end of restraint.
Gradually, over a period of not less than 2
s nor greater than 15 s, apply the static
load of 50 lb (23 kg)3 and maintain for an
additional 30 s.
If the fastener(s) become unattached from
the test structure (wood block or fixed
structure) in such a way that it prohibits the
completion of the test, then the fastener(s)
are to be reattached using whatever means
possible without affecting the test results of
the assembly.
Shall not detach at a static load of 50 lb (23
kg) and maintained for 30 s.
Shall not tipover or be supported when
opening all doors to 90° and extend all
drawers or pullout shelves, or both, to the
outstop or, in the absence of such feature,
to 2/3 (66 %) of their operational sliding
length. Flaps or drop fronts shall open to
their horizontal position or as near
horizontal as possible.
Functionality Shall function as intended as received.
