available.Thismaybepurchasedfromyoursupplieror,incaseof
difficulty,fromCharnwood.
Forreducedburningthefiredoormustbeclosed.
Whenburningwoodinareasthatarenotsmokecontrolled,load
somelargelogsonthefireandallowtoburnforhalfanhourbefore
closingtheaircontrol(thiswillhelptoreducetardepositsinthe
chimney).Someexperimentationmaybenecessarytofindthesetting
mostsuitableforthetypeoffuelbeingusedandthedrawonthe
chimney.
Torevivethefire,emptytheashpan(ifburningfuelotherthan
wood),riddlethefire,andopentheaircontroltomaximum.When
thefireisburningwellloadonmorefuelasnecessaryandadjustthe
aircontroltothedesiredsetting.

When Not in Use
Ifthefireisgoingtobeoutofuseforalongperiod(forinstancein
thesummer)thentopreventcondensation,andhencecorrosion,the
aircontrolshouldbeleftfullyopenandthefiredoorleftajar.ItIs
alsoadvisabletosweepthechimneyandcleanoutthefire.Spraying
theinsideofthedoorandfireboxwithalightoil,suchasWD40,will
alsohelptokeepallinternalpartsworkingwell.
Thestoveisfinishedwithahightemperaturepaintwhichwill
withstandthetemperaturesencounteredinnormaluse.Thismaybe
cleanedwithadamplint-freeclothwhenthestoveiscold.Shouldre-
paintingbecomenecessary,hightemperaturepaintsareavailable
fromyoursupplierorfromstoveshops.
Mostdepositsontheglassmaybeburntoffsimplybyrunningthefire
atafastrateforafewminutes.Ifitbecomesnecessarytocleanthe
glassthenopenthedoorandallowittocool.Cleantheglassusinga
dampclothandthenwipingoverwithadrycloth.Anystubborn
depositsontheglassmayberemovedwithaproprietarystoveglass
cleanerorceramichobcleaner.Donotuseabrasivecleanersorpads
asthesecanscratchthesurfacewhichwillweakentheglassandcause
prematurefailure
Afterlongperiods
wherethefirehasbeenoutofuse,thechimneyandappliance
fluewaysshouldbecleanedbeforelighting.

Forthefiretooperatecorrectlyitisimportantthatthedoorseals
areingoodcondition.Checkthattheydonotbecomewornor
frayedandreplacethemwhennecessary.
Itisrecommendedthatthefireisservicedonceayeartokeepitin
firstclassworkingorder.Aftercleaningoutthefireboxthoroughly,
checkthatallinternalpartsareingoodworkingorder,replacingany
partsthatarebeginningtoshowsignsofwear.Checkthatthedoors
sealsareingoodconditionandthatthedoorsealscorrectly.A
servicingguideisavailableonrequest.Repairsormodificationsmay
onlybecarriedoutbytheManufacturerortheirapprovedagents.
UseonlygenuineCharnwoodreplacementparts.
THROATPLATEAND
FLUEWAYCLEANING
CHIMNEYSWEEPING
Itisimportantthatthethroatplateandallthestovefluewaysarekept
cleaninordertopreventpotentiallydangerousfumeemission.They
shouldbecleanedatleastmonthly,andmorefrequentlyifnecessary.
Itisnecessarytoletthefireouttocarryouttheseoperations.
Thefrontofthethroatplateispulledforwardandthenloweredas
showninFig.3.Anysootydepositsshouldthenbesweptfromthe
plateandintothefire.
Returnthethroatplatetoitscorrectposition-raisethefrontofthe
plate,pushitbackandthenloweritontotheretaininglugs.
Wherethechimneypreviouslyservedanopenfire,itispossiblethat
thehigherfluegastemperaturefromastovemayloosensoot
depositswiththeconsequentriskofflueblockage.Itistherefore
recommendedthatthechimneybesweptasecondtimewithina
