OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE FIRST USE For best results, follow these steps before using your Slow Cooker for the first time. 1. Remove all packaging materials from inside and outside the unit and check to ensure that all parts are accounted for. 2. Read and remove any stickers on the unit except for rating label on the bottom, which should remain on unit. Read all directions. 3. Wash the cooking insert and lid with warm, soapy water. Dry thoroughly.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 5. Cook for the amount of time specified in your recipe. Check foods for doneness according to current food safety guidelines, then enjoy. If you would like to keep your cooked food warm, turn the knob to the WARM setting. NOTE: If removing the insert for serving, place it on a heatproof surface. CAUTION: Insert handles are hot. Use potholders when handling insert. 6. When finished, turn the Slow Cooker off, unplug it, and let it cool completely before cleaning.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 5. Once food is seared, carefully lower the insert into the Slow Cooker base, then add any remaining ingredients as needed. NOTE: Do not fill insert less than one-quarter full or more than three-quarters full. 9 6. Put lid on and plug in Slow Cooker. 7. Turn the temperature control knob to LOW or HIGH according to how long you want your food to cook.
SLOW COOKING TIPS General • T he important difference between HIGH and LOW settings is how long they take to bring food to a simmer. Choose LOW when you want foods to cook all day (for instance, during a work day); choose HIGH when you want foods to cook in about 4 hours. • T o ensure onions, potatoes, and other root vegetables cook through at the same rate as other ingredients, cut them into pieces no larger than 2 inches.
SLOW COOKING TIPS the insert in the base unit and reheat on LOW until simmering. • Most recipes can be partially prepped the day before. Brown meats as instructed in the recipe, then add the remaining ingredients. Cool, cover, and refrigerate overnight in the cooking insert. The next day, put the cold insert in the unit base and cook as directed, adding up to 30 minutes to your cooking time if necessary.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE The beauty of slow cooking is that you wind up with just one pot to clean. 1. Unplug Slow Cooker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. CAUTION: Insert handles become very hot during cooking. If handling before the unit has cooled, use potholders. 2. Never immerse base in water or other liquids. To clean the base and temperature control knob, if necessary, wipe with a clean damp cloth. 3. The cooking insert and lid are top rack dishwasher-safe.
