Infotainment System Overview Read this manual thoroughly to become familiar with how the navigation system operates. All functions are available when the vehicle is parked. Do the following before driving: . Become familiar with the navigation system operation, control buttons on the faceplate, and touch-sensitive screen buttons of the navigation system. . Set up the audio by presetting favorite stations, setting the tone, and adjusting the speakers.
Infotainment System Use the navigation system to: . Plan a route. . Select a destination using various methods and choices. . Follow turn-by-turn route and map guidance with voice prompts, only if permitted by traffic laws, controls, and conditions. You should always be alert and obey traffic and roadway laws and instructions, regardless of the guidance from the navigation system.
Infotainment System After you acknowledge the start up information you will be able to access the NAV (navigation) and DEST (destination) functions. Once accessed, you can enter or delete information in the navigation system or access other functions. See instructions later in this section. Every fifty times the vehicle is started and the navigation system is turned on, the Caution screen appears. After reading the caution, select OK to load the map DVD information.

Once a street has been selected, the numeric keyboard displays, allowing you to enter the house number. The system will display the house number range that is available for the street. 1. Infotainment System Notice: The chime signals related to safety belts, parking brake, and other functions of the vehicle operate through the navigation system. If that equipment is replaced or additional equipment is added to the vehicle, the chimes may not work. Make sure that replacement or additional equipment is compatible with the vehicle before installing it. See “Accessories and Modifications” in the Index of the vehicle's owner manual. Infotainment System $ Refresh List: Storing Radio Station Presets When viewing a map screen, the name of the station or channel will appear on the display. This feature allows you to store up to 30 preset stations. See “Number of Preset Pages” under “Radio Menu” later in this section for more information. You can mix AM, FM, and XM (if equipped). Infotainment System Setting the Tone Automatic Equalization TREBLE: Press + or − to increase or decrease the treble. If a station is weak or noisy, decrease the treble. If the system has automatic equalization, you can select customized equalization settings designed for Talk. Press the Talk screen button to hear the change in sound. The system will save the setting for each source. MID (Midrange): Press + or to increase or decrease the midrange.
Infotainment System Rear: Select to adjust the audio to give the rear seat occupants the best possible sound quality. Radio Menu Press 4 ( Additional Information Displayed) to turn station, channel, CD, and MP3 information on or off. 2 CH (Channel): Select to enhance surround sound. The Surround screen button must be selected to select the 2 CH screen button. Downmix: If a 5.1CH disc is playing, and the 2 CH screen button is selected or RSA is turned on, the system will downmix the audio from 5.
Infotainment System Limit Features While Driving Remove/Add XM Categories To use Automatic Volume Control: The navigation system may have this feature. Press & (Remove/Add XM Categories) to remove or add XM categories when selecting XM categories from the category list screen. The list of XM categories will appear on the screen. Use the arrows to scroll through the list. The categories to remove will be highlighted and the categories to add will be dark in color.
Infotainment System Radio Data System (RDS) The audio system has a Radio Data System (RDS). RDS features are available for use only on FM stations that broadcast RDS information. With RDS, the radio can do the following: . Seek to stations broadcasting the selected type of programming . Receive announcements concerning local and national emergencies .
Infotainment System Audio Players CD/DVD Player Playing an Audio CD The player can be used for CD and MP3. If your vehicle has RSE, the player can be used for CD, MP3, DVD audio, and as a DVD video player. See “Playing a DVD” later in this section. With the ignition on, insert a CD partway into the slot, label side up. The player pulls it in and the CD should begin playing. While playing a CD, the navigation system is available.
Infotainment System RANDOM: ¨ SEEK / © SEEK: Using an MP3 CD 1. Press to hear the tracks in random, rather than sequential, order. 1. Press the right arrow to go to the next track. MP3 Format 2. Press it again to turn off random play. r (Rewind): 1. Press and hold to rewind quickly through a track selection. You will hear sound at a reduced volume. 2. Release to stop rewinding. The display will show the elapsed time of the track. [ (Forward): 1.
. Infotainment System ID3 tag information is displayed by the radio if it is available. The radio supports ID3 tag information v1.0 or v1.1. The radio will display a filename, song name, artist name, album name, and directory name. . Maximum 32 characters, including spaces, in a file or folder name. . Maximum number of folders is 253 with a maximum hierarchy of eight folders. . Create a folder structure that makes it easy to find songs while driving.
Infotainment System 25 Order of Play File System and Naming Playing an MP3 Tracks are played in the following order: The song name that displays is the song name contained in the ID3 tag. If the song name is not present in the ID3 tag, then the radio displays the file name without the extension (such as .mp3) as the track name. With the ignition on, insert a CD partway into the slot, label side up. The player pulls it in. The system may take some time to read the MP3 disc.
Infotainment System If viewing a map screen, press the CD screen button. The display splits between the audio screen and the map screen. If you do not want to view a split screen or you are not on a map screen, press AUDIO, then it again until CD is selected or press the CD screen button. RANDOM: q r (Folder): 1. Press to hear the disc played in random (tracks and folders) order. 1. Press the arrows to go to the previous or next folder on the disc. 2. Press it to turn off random play. 2.
Infotainment System ¨ SEEK / © SEEK: Playing a DVD 1. Press the right arrow to go to the next track. The player can be used for DVD audio and DVD video. 2. Press the left arrow to go to the start of the current track, if more than five seconds have played. If either arrow is pressed more than once, the player will continue moving backward or forward through the CD. The sound will mute while seeking. With the ignition on, insert a DVD partway into the top visible slot, label side up.
Infotainment System When a DVD is loaded in the DVD player, the rear seat operator can power on the RSE video screen and use the remote control to navigate through the DVD. O (Power/Volume): 1. Press to turn the system on and off. 2. Turn to increase or decrease the volume of the audio system. 3. Press and hold for more than two seconds to turn the navigation system, RSE, and RSA off.
Infotainment System Full: Press to remove all menu options from the display. Press anywhere on the screen to display the menu options. j / r (Pause/Play): Press to pause the DVD. This button will then change to the play button. Press to play the DVD. Cursor: Press to access the cursor menu. The arrows and other cursor options allow you to navigate the DVD menu options. The cursor menu options are only available if a DVD has a menu.

(Brightness): Press the arrows to increase or decrease the brightness of the navigation screen. _ (Contrast): Press the arrows to increase or decrease the contrast of the navigation screen. Auto (Automatic): Press this button for the system to automatically adjust the navigation screen background depending on exterior lighting conditions. Night: Press this button and the system makes the navigation screen background darken.
Infotainment System Parental Level: Press to change the rating level to only allow the play of DVDs with a certain rating. The rating selection is 1 through 8, with 1 being a G rating. If the 1 is selected, any DVD with a rating above G will not be able to be viewed without entering a password. If the password has been forgotten, contact your dealer. When the parental level screen is first entered a keyboard appears on the display and a four-digit password needs to be created.

This button is not available for DVD video. ¨ SEEK (Next Track/Chapter): Press to go to the next track or chapter. This button may not work when the DVD is playing the copyright information or the previews. CD/DVD Messages If Disc Read Error appears on the display and/or the CD/DVD comes out, it could be for one of the following reasons: .
Infotainment System If the surface is soiled, see “Care of Your CDs and DVDs” in the Index of the vehicle's owner manual. If there is no apparent damage, try a known good CD or DVD. Notice: If a label is added to a CD or DVD, or more than one CD or DVD is inserted into the slot at a time, or an attempt is made to play scratched or damaged CDs or DVDs, the player could be damaged.
Infotainment System While the USB source is active, use the following to operate USB function: k (Play/Pause): Press to start, pause, or resume play of the current media source. r (Seek/Forward): 1. Press to seek to the next track. 2. Press and hold to advance quickly through playback. 3. Release to return to playing speed. Elapsed time displays. r (Seek/Reverse): 1. Press to seek to the beginning of the current or previous track.
Infotainment System 2. Once the disc has been read into the system, press USB. 3. Press Files, Folders, or Playlists to show a list of songs stored on the USB device. 35 4. Press to play the desired song.
Infotainment System Press the single scroll arrows on the side of the screen to scroll through the list. Pressing the double scroll arrows will scroll the list in 10 percent increments. Eject: Press when USB is to be removed. A message displays to safely remove it. If the USB is disconnected without pressing Eject, the files could become corrupted.

Select an artist name to view a list of all songs by the artist. 2. Select a genre name to view a list of all songs of that genre. 1. Select to view the audio books that have been stored on the iPod. 3. Select the desired song from the list.
Infotainment System 39 Podcasts will only appear as a valid category if this option is on the iPod. To use the iPod music menu: 2. Press Files, Folders, or Playlists to show a list of songs stored on the iPod device. 1. Press on the center button to go to the main list menu. 3. Press to play the desired song. Eject iPod: Select to remove the iPod. If the iPod is disconnected without selecting this button, the files on the iPod could be corrupted.
Infotainment System Audio Book Audiobooks can be downloaded from iTunes® or if in .mp3. After inserting the USB or iPod, the following screen displays: 2. Press on Audiobooks or Podcasts to show a list of the media stored on the iPod device. 1. Press on the center button to go to the main list menu. 3. Press to play the desired media.
Infotainment System Auxiliary Devices The navigation system has an auxiliary input jack located in the upper right corner of the faceplate. This is not an audio output; do not plug the headphone set into the front auxiliary input jack. You can however, connect an external audio device such as an iPod, laptop computer, MP3 player, CD changer, or cassette tape player, etc. to the auxiliary input jack for use as another source for audio listening.
Infotainment System If your vehicle has the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) and Rear Seat Audio (RSA), press and hold for more than two seconds to turn off the navigation system, the RSE, and RSA. Selecting the audio tab splits the screen between the map screen and the current audio source screen menu. See “Audio” under AM-FM Radio on page 14 for more information.
Infotainment System Alpha-Numeric Keyboard Letters of the alphabet, symbols, punctuation, and numbers, when available, displays on the navigation screen as an alpha or numeric keyboard. The alpha keyboard displays when the system requires entry of a city or street name. All characters are touch-sensitive screen buttons. Press on a character to select it. A-Y (Accent Alphabet): Select this screen button to select letters with accent symbols. This button may toggle to A-Z.
Infotainment System Ejecting the DVD Map Disc This is normal operation and may occur more frequently with the use of XM NavTraffic. When the DVD map disc is not loaded, you will not be able to use the navigation portion of the system. Your dealer may have installed the map DVD. If the map DVD was not installed, do the following to load it: 1. Press the MENU control button to enter the Menu options, then press it repeatedly until Nav is selected or press the Nav screen button. 1.
Infotainment System 45 Handling the DVD Map Disc DVD Map Disc Messages Map Adjustments When handling the DVD map disc, be careful of the following: If Disc Read Error appears on the display and/or the disc comes out, it could be for one of the following reasons: The system allows you to adjust the scale of view on the map. Also, as you drive, the map will scroll automatically based on the direction of travel. . . . Handle the disc very carefully to avoid contamination or flaws.
Infotainment System Scrolling the Map Press anywhere on the map screen and the scroll symbol appears. Use this feature to scroll across the map. Move your finger in any direction on the map screen and the map continues to scroll in that direction until you remove your finger. If scrolling while the vehicle is in P (Park), the system will scroll initially at a slower rate. It increases if you continue pressing on the map screen.
Infotainment System 47 The waypoint symbol displays on the map after a waypoint has been added to the route. The waypoint symbol is numbered from one through three depending on how many intermediate waypoints have been set. The distance to destination symbol indicates the distance to the final destination. This symbol only appears when time is not available or when you are scrolling on the map.
Infotainment System The north up symbol indicates the map with North Up, known as North Up mode. While in North Up mode, the vehicle icon follows the north direction on the map regardless of which direction the vehicle is traveling. Select this screen symbol to switch between North Up and Heading Up modes. The heading up symbol indicates the map with the vehicle travel direction up, known as Heading Up mode. The shaded triangle indicates the North direction.
Infotainment System 49 More: Select to view more POI categories. Displaying Points of Interest (POI) on the Map Screen Select the POI screen button to display or delete POI icons from the map. Displaying POI icons on the map let you know where POIs (i.e. restaurants, gas stations, etc.) are located. This screen appears after selecting the POI screen button. Select one of the POI categories to display or to delete POI icons from the map screen.
Infotainment System Go: Press this button, located next to the desired POI, to make this POI a destination or a waypoint. Select a POI name to receive information about the POI. From this screen you can select: Add to Address Book, Go, Map, or Call (if OnStar® personal calling is activated). Add to Address Book: Press to add this POI to the address book. See “Nav” under Navigation Menu on page 52 for information on editing address book entries. Go: Press to make this POI a destination or a waypoint.
Infotainment System Driving on a Route Dual Mode When a destination has been routed and you are driving on route, the map screen automatically displays the next maneuver. This next maneuver pop-up displays the next maneuver direction and how many miles or kilometers you are from it. The Dual Mode symbol displays when the screen is in dual mode. 51 Dual mode displays the route on half of the screen and a maneuver or Interstate Exit list on the other half.
Infotainment System Press the dual mode button to hide the detailed turn maneuver view for this maneuver only. Auto Reroute When the destination is set and you are off the planned route, the system automatically plans a new route and begins to reroute. The new route becomes highlighted on the screen. Traveling Across Regions Navigation Menu If you plan to drive across many states, you may have to change the region selected to represent the area you are traveling to. To change the region: .
Infotainment System Sound 53 Nav (Navigation) Off-Road Mode Press the MENU control button to enter the Menu options, then press it repeatedly until Nav is selected or press the Nav screen button. To turn the Off-Road Mode on or off: Press the MENU control button to enter the Menu options, then press it repeatedly until Sound is selected or press the Sound screen button to make speaker and equalization or DSP (Digital Signal Processing) adjustments. See AM-FM Radio on page 14 for more information.

When the off-road mode is turned on, the navigation system shows the path being traveled by the vehicle when not on a marked road. This path is a simulation since the map database coverage will not have these roads on the DVD. This path is stored in the navigation system's memory, see “Previous Destination” under Destination on page 65 for more information.

Infotainment System 57 XM NavTraffic™ (USA and Canada) Coverage: Press to view the areas covered by the map DVD. Press the arrows to view each region of the map DVD. The screen displays the major cities for the selected region. The vehicle's navigation system may have an XM NavTraffic™ receiver. XM NavTraffic™ is a subscription service provided via XM™ Satellite Radio.
Infotainment System Traffic information is delivered to the vehicle by the XM™ Radio satellites. XM NavTraffic™ makes it possible for the navigation system to provide continuously updated traffic information personalized for a driver’s needs. XM NavTraffic™ currently broadcasts the traffic information for many markets nationally, and the service may be available in more cities in the future. Infotainment System The Traffic Icon has three different condition displays. These are: Condition No XM NavTraffic™ subscription. No Traffic is found in the local area. The Traffic Feature is turned off. Traffic events are in the area, but none are on route. Traffic events are on route. Traffic Status Icon 59 Locations and Information of Traffic Conditions The system may take some time to sort the information.
Infotainment System To view the traffic condition location and information on the map: 1. Press NAV, then press it repeatedly until Traffic is selected, or press the Traffic screen button. A list of traffic conditions with the direction and distance from the vehicle's current position displays. 2. Select a traffic condition to get more detailed information of the event. Options Select the Options screen button. A Traffic Options menu displays. Select the desired traffic related option.
Infotainment System . Yellow indicates slightly impaired traffic flow with average speed between 25 and 45 mph. p (Alert): Object in the roadway, disabled vehicle, or dangerous road conditions. . Green indicates normal traffic flow with average speed above 45 mph. t (Accident): Traffic flow data arrows display on the map when scaled up to eight miles.
Infotainment System On-Route Avoid List Select the On Route screen button to display all events ahead on the current active route. If no traffic events have been reported on route, this list will be empty. Press to show previously avoided incidences. Select an incidence to cancel it from being on the avoided list. Scrolling to Traffic Events on the Map While scrolling the map, traffic condition icons may appear.
Infotainment System Press NAV to return to the normal full map screen. The Traffic Event screen can be displayed by: Detailed Traffic Event Screens . Scrolling to an event on the map and then pressing Info. . Selecting a traffic event listed on the Traffic Event List screen. . Selecting a traffic event listed on the Traffic On Route Screen. There are different types of detailed traffic event screens. Each screen is a variance of the one shown on the Traffic Event Screen.
Infotainment System Traffic Voice Prompts Display Brightness/Contrast/Mode Press the MENU control button to enter the Menu options, then press it repeatedly until Display is selected or press the Display screen button. Press this screen button to change the brightness, contrast, and mode of the display. If the voice prompts are on, whenever an Alert for Approaching Traffic is displayed, the system gives the related voice prompt. The content of the voice prompt depends on actual traffic event data.
Infotainment System At night, the brightness can be adjusted with the vehicle dimming knob near the headlamp switch. Night: Press to make the map background darker. Day: Press to make the map background brighter. Setting the Clock Press the MENU control button to enter the menu options, then press it repeatedly until the time is selected or press the time screen button, then press the Set screen button. Hours: Press − or + to decrease or increase the hours.
Infotainment System To enter a destination, choose from one of the following destination entry methods: Address Entry 6 Address Entry: The address entry destination method allows you to enter an address by providing the system with a city name or a street name. Press the Change Search Area screen button to view the Search Area screen.
Infotainment System 4. Enter the city name or press the Last 5 Cities screen button. The Last 5 Cities screen displays a list of the last five city names that had been entered. Select a city from the list and it appears in the City name area. If using the alpha keyboard, finish entering the city name. If five or fewer names are available, a list displays. If more than five are available, there will be a screen button with a number in it, it represents the number of available cities.
Infotainment System 5. Once a street has been selected the City name category will automatically be selected for entry. If five or fewer cities are available for the selected street, the system will display the list of cities. If more than five cities are available the system displays the alpha keyboard. Start entering the city name. If five or less names are available, a list displays.

The map screen, with the destination marked, displays. Previous OnStar Destination Downloads are saved under Previous Destinations in the navigation system where they can be accessed or saved to the address book. Infotainment System Getting Started on Your Route Turn List Once you have entered a destination there are several functions that can be performed. Press the DEST control button to access the Route screen. Turn List: Press to view the list of turn maneuvers for the entire route and to avoid turns on the route. The map screen displays. Select the Fastest, Shortest, or Other screen buttons. Press Start Guidance. The route re-calculates without the selected avoided maneuver.
Infotainment System t (Reverse Skip) : Press to go back to the start point or previous waypoint. q / r (Reverse Scroll): Press to scroll to the start point or previous waypoint. This button toggles between slow and fast speed. j (Pause): Press to pause the route preview, while in reverse or fast forward scroll. r / [ (Fast Forward Scroll): Press to scroll to the next waypoint or to the final destination. This button will toggle between slow and fast speed.

Infotainment System 77 Adding Destinations to the Address Book Adding or Changing Preset Destinations To store the current final destination as a preset destination: There are two ways to add a destination to the address book: This feature allows you to add or change one of five preset destinations. When a destination has been added as a preset destination, it becomes available to select from the Destination Entry screen.

Infotainment System Problems with Route Guidance Inappropriate route guidance may occur under one or more of the following conditions: . You have not turned onto the road indicated. . Route guidance may not be available when using automatic rerouting for the next right or left turn. . The route may not be changed when using automatic rerouting. . There is no route guidance when turning at an intersection. . Plural names of places may be announced occasionally. .
Infotainment System After receiving the updated disc, replace the old disc in the navigation system. See “Installing the DVD Map Disc” and “Ejecting the DVD Map Disc” under Maps on page 43. Dispose of the old disc to avoid confusion about which disc is the most current. Database Coverage Explanations Coverage area depends upon the map detail available. Some areas have greater map detail than others. The navigation system works only as well as the information provided on the map disc.
Infotainment System . To cancel a command or if the system response does not match your verbal command, press and hold the talk symbol button. The system will reply, “System will cancel the voice recognition”. . If you experience difficulty with the system recognizing a command, try saying it more softly, and wait for a few seconds after the beep, or you may just try saying it again. . Background noise may cause voice commands to be misunderstood, including airflow noise from wind. .
Infotainment System Storing Voice Tags Radio Commands From the address book entry information page, press the Add Voice tag screen button. The system will respond “Name Please?”. The following are radio commands you can access by clearly stating the commands exactly as they are written. The commands are only available when you are in one of the following audio modes, AM, FM, or XM™ (if equipped). Navigation Help Navigation Help: This command instructs the system to assist with navigation commands.
