Do not decrease your power to
depress the footbrake.
When you start the vehicle after
ignition switched on, you can be
heard mechanical sounds. It is
normal that the ABS is to be ready.
See Antilock brake system (ABS)
warning light on page 110.
Fault
Have the cause of the fault remedied
by a repairer.
Parking brake

The vehicle has an Electric Parking
Brake (EPB). The switch for the EPB
is in the center console. The EPB
can always be activated, even if the
ignition is OFF. To prevent draining
the battery, avoid repeated cycles of
the EPB system when the engine is
not running.
The system has a parking brake
status light Y and a parking brake
warning light.

page 108. In case of insufficient
electrical power, the EPB cannot be
applied or released. Before leaving
the vehicle, check the parking brake
status lamp to insure the parking
brake is applied.
EPB Apply
The EPB can be applied any time the
vehicle is stopped. The EPB is
applied by momentarily lifting up on
the EPB switch. Once fully applied,
the parking brake status light Y will
be on. While the brake is being
applied, the status lamp will flash
until full apply is reached. If the light
does not come on, or remains
flashing, you need to have the

If there is a fault in the ABS, the
wheels may be liable to lock due to
braking that is heavier than normal.
The advantages of ABS are no
longer available. During hard
braking, the vehicle can no longer
be steered and may swerve.
