Each port supports 10/100 Mbps half- or full-duplex connections to external devices. You can use either Category 3 or 5 cabling for 10-Mbps connections, but you must use Category 5 for 100 Mbps connections.

Cisco recommends that customers test headsets in their intended environment to determine performance before making a purchasing decision and deploying en masse.

CH A P T E R 4 Configuring Network Settings on the Cisco Unified IP Phone The Cisco Unified IP Phone includes many configurable network and device settings that you may need to modify before the phone is functional for your users. You can view these settings, and change many of them, through the Network Configuration menu on the phone.

Chapter 8 Troubleshooting and Maintenance Resolving Startup Problems Symptom: The Cisco Unified IP Phone Does Not Go Through its Normal Startup Process When you connect a Cisco Unified IP Phone into the network port, the phone should go through its normal startup process and the LCD screen should display information. If the phone does not go through the startup process, the cause may be faulty cables, bad connections, network outages, lack of power, and so on. Or, the phone may not be functional.

Appendix F Basic Phone Administration Steps Configuring the Phone Step 2 In the User Information pane of this window, enter the following: – User ID—Enter the end user identification name. Cisco Unified Communications Manager does not permit modifying the user ID after it is created. You may use the following special characters: =, +, <, >, #, ;, \, , "", and blank spaces. Example: johndoe – Password and Confirm Password—Enter five or more alphanumeric or special characters for the end user password.

This will help you if you need to search on information about this user. – Device Pool—Choose the device pool to which you want this phone assigned. The device pool defines sets of common characteristics for devices, such as region, date/time group, softkey template, and MLPP information.

To enable security features for a phone, you must configure a new security profile for the device type and protocol and apply it to the phone.
