Chapter 4 Maintaining the Battery

4 Insert a new battery into the battery compartment. Do not force the battery into
the compartment, but be sure to press the battery all the way in until it seats
fully.
5 Close the battery compartment door. The battery lock will automatically re-
engage.
Important: Dispose of the battery in accordance with local regulations and
instructions from your service provider.
Using the Cable Modem Without a Battery
If you want, you can use the cable modem without a battery. If you need to remove
the battery, follow the procedures found in Removing and Replacing the Battery (on
page 29).
Important: If you choose to operate your cable modem without a battery, you risk
losing your telephone service during a power outage.
