ENGLISH warm up/break-in period Your new Classé preamplifier will deliver outstanding performance immediately. However, you should expect to hear it improve somewhat as it reaches its normal operating temperatures and its various components “break-in.” It has been our experience that the greatest changes occur within the first 300 hours, as the preamplifier reaches thermal equilibrium and the capacitors fully form.
ENGLISH Special Design Features flexible graphic The LCD touchscreen on the front panel of your new component supports an user interface extremely flexible and versatile graphic user interface (GUI) while maintaining a clean, uncluttered appearance. The CP-700 provides a range of controls that might otherwise require dozens of buttons and knobs on the front panel. Despite this power and flexibility, it remains simple to operate in day-to-day use.
ENGLISH extensive listening tests Excellent measured performance is to be expected in world-class products, and Classé products deliver that performance. However, experience has shown that technical excellence alone is insufficient to guarantee subjectively musical results. For this reason, all Classé products are laboriously fine-tuned during the development process by carefully controlled listening tests.
ENGLISH MUTE MENU CP-700 �� � �� � Front Panel 1 Standby button & LED indicator The front panel Standby button will toggle the preamplifier between operate, its fully operational state, and a standby mode that leaves the preamplifier off, yet ready to respond to system commands via any of the supported control options (e.g. IR input, DC trigger, CAN Bus, or RS-232). The current state of the preamplifier is indicated by the LED indicator in the center of the standby button.
ENGLISH 2 Menu button Pressing the front panel Menu button will call up the main menu system, replacing the normal operational menu and status display in the LCD touchscreen. 3 LCD touchscreen Much of your interaction with the CP-700 will be via the LCD touchscreen (and the CP-700’s supplied remote control). It will usually display the various input selection buttons you would use in day-to-day operation, along with access to the tape button.
6 ENGLISH In addition to receiving IR commands, the CP-700 can also transmit IR commands so they may be learned by third-party learning remote controls. The CP-700 includes a comprehensive list of discrete IR commands to facilitate the creation of reliable macros. Specifically, there are discrete codes for all commands that normally operate as toggle functions (e.g. separate operate and standby commands in addition to the normal command that toggles between the two states).
ENGLISH Rear Panel 1 Tape Input Connect the analog outputs of any recording device (analog tape recorder, digital tape recorder, CD recorder, etc.) you may have to these single-ended RCA connectors. You may select to hear the output of your recording device by touching the tape button on the main operational screen of the CP-700.
The pin assignments of the XLR-type female input connectors are: ENGLISH Pin 1: Signal ground Pin 2: Signal + (non-inverting) Pin 3: Signal – (inverting) Connector ground lug: chassis ground Refer to the operating manuals of your balanced-output line-level sources to verify that the pin assignments of their output connectors correspond to the CP-700. If not, wire the cables so that the appropriate output pin connects to the equivalent input pin.
ENGLISH Balanced audio interconnections were originally developed in the professional audio world for preserving the delicate nuances of extremely small microphone-level signals. For many years now, they have also been used by performance-oriented consumer companies like Classé to preserve every nuance of the finest audio performances in your collection.
Classé CAN Bus Control Ports These RJ-45 connectors are reserved for future control and communication applications using Classé Audio’s implementation of the Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus specification. 9 IR Input and Output Your Classé preamplifier includes two 1/8th-inch mini mono-jacks in order to support the infrared (IR) remote controls that are ubiquitous today.
ENGLISH 10 DC Trigger Input and Output Many audio/video components can supply a DC control voltage to associated equipment in order to induce desired behavior. Your Classé preamplifier can take advantage of these capabilities in order to be switched between operate and standby automatically, usually in concert with the A/V preamp itself. The 1/8th-inch mini mono-jack Trigger In provides for remote-controlled turn-on (that is, toggling between operate and standby) of the preamplifier.

The buttons are arranged in logical groups according to their functions. 1 ��� ���������� ���� ENGLISH The Remote Control � Basic Functions This section along the top of the remote control groups four functions that control your basic interactions with the CP-700.
ENGLISH • The Bal (balance) key takes you directly to the balance screen in the menu system; once there, you can use the navigation keys on the remote to select either the left or right buttons on the LCD touchscreen, depending on which way you wish to move the balance. Adjust the relative left-right balance of the system by using the Enter key on the remote to “press” the appropriate button on the display.
ENGLISH The Menu System Your CP-700 includes a versatile LCD touchscreen which supports both an attractive information display and a flexible menu system. While its use is quite intuitive, it is also quite extensive. This section of the owner’s manual outlines the many capabilities found in the menu system. operational menu The operational menu provides easy access to the most basic functions of the preamplifier: input selection and tape monitor.
ENGLISH main menu system Pressing the front panel Menu button to the left of the LCD touchscreen brings up a comprehensive main menu system, the top two levels of which are shown above. This menu provides access to many installation-specific features that let you customize how the CP-700 works within the context of your particular system. system setup The first button on the control menu takes you to a series of submenus that collectively provide a great deal of control over your system setup.
• • • • ENGLISH volume Pressing the volume button takes you to the volume setup menu, which in turn has four submenus, all pertaining to how the volume of the system is managed. rotary max volume startup volume mute setup Each of these topics will be addressed in turn, below. rotary The rotary knob on the front panel does not directly control the volume. Instead, it controls circuitry that does so with greater fidelity and precision than traditional volume potentiometers could ever achieve.
ENGLISH The most significant factor in the perceived responsiveness of the volume control is the speed at which the knob is being turned. We all naturally tend to move volume knobs more quickly when we need to make a bigger change, and we tend to slow down as we approach our desired volume. Thus, if the CP-700 sees the knob moving relatively quickly, it uses coarse steps to effectively accelerate the action of the circuitry.
ENGLISH • medium speed: determines the responsiveness of the control when the knob is being turned at a moderate speed. A setting of 0 will cause the volume to change as slowly as possible at medium speeds; a setting of 100 will cause the volume to change as quickly as allowed at medium knob speeds. (The menu is the same as the one above except for the indication that it is for the “medium speed” adjustment.) • high speed: determines the responsiveness of the control when the knob is being turned rapidly.
ENGLISH mute setup Pressing the mute setup button allows you to select one of three different muting functions: • Classic muting literally mutes the output when you engage the mute button; no sound will be heard. • Specific muting allows you to select a specific volume setting that you want used when you engage mute, regardless of what setting you might have been using the moment before. • Dampening works as most mute buttons work, attenuating the current volume by the amount you specify.
Warning! ENGLISH • The t button acts like the backspace key on a computer keyboard, moving the cursor to the left and eliminating any characters along the way. • The u button moves the cursor to the right, adding characters along the way. (Change each character to what you want as you go along, using the + and – buttons.) • The + and – buttons change the current character through the available characters.
ENGLISH phono gain The phono gain menu is only active if the optional phono module is installed; otherwise it is grayed out. When it is installed, the CP-700 will automatically recognize it, rename the line 1 input to phono, and activate the input on the main menu. Setting the phono gain is simple enough: choose low gain for most moving magnet cartridges, and for high output moving coil cartridges; choose high gain for low output moving coil cartridges.
display setup ENGLISH This button brings up the display setup menu. It allows you to configure the CP-700’s LCD screen brightness, the display timeout, and the language used in the touchscreen and menu system. brightness The brightness setting of the CP-700 has three possible values: low, medium, and high. Select the appropriate setting based on the level of ambient light typically found in your listening room while using the system.
ENGLISH If you prefer the display of the CP-700 to remain on whenever not in standby, choose the never timeout setting. The lamp in the LCD display was designed for harsh automotive environments and will give you many years of reliable operation. If you plan to leave the unit on continuously, however, we recommend that you keep the timeout delay set to less than one minute. (Note that setting the brightness to a lower setting does not increase the life of the lamp.
ENGLISH For example, if you use the balance control frequently, you may want to consider programming one of the Fkeys to take you straight to that screen. Doing so will save you having to access the control menu, followed by pressing the balance button (which might be hard to see from across the room). The remote Fkey menu has four buttons, one each for the four Fkeys on your remote control.
ENGLISH status The status screen provides several items of information about the current operation status of the CP-700, as well as access to information on the software used in and the internal sensors of the CP-700. version info The version info button on the status screen takes you to the version information screen, which displays information on various pieces of software used by your CP-700.
ENGLISH Troubleshooting In general, you should refer any service problems to your Classé dealer. Before contacting your dealer, check to see if the problem is listed here. If it is, try the suggested solutions. If none of these solves the problem, contact your Classé dealer. 1. Important! Check that the power amplifier is off before checking any connections between the preamplifier and power amplifier, or between the power amplifier and the speakers. 2.
ENGLISH 3. Important! Only one speaker seems to be playing. • Check the main balance control setting of the CP-700 by pressing the Menu button, followed by the balance button (or simply press Bal on the remote control). • Does the problem occur with all inputs? If so, check the interconnect cables between the preamp and the power amp. If no fault is found there, check the speaker wires for secure connections.
There is a mechanical hum coming from the unit. • This symptom suggests you have a lot of electrical noise on your AC mains line. Try connecting to another AC circuit (not merely a different plug, but a different circuit). • Check to see if you have any halogen lighting or dimmers on the same circuit as the preamplifier, as they can be the cause of hum in power supply transformers. 7. There is a noticeable change in volume between one input and another, even though the volume was not adjusted.
ENGLISH Care and Maintenance cleaning the cabinet To remove dust from the cabinet of your preamplifier, use a feather duster or a soft, lint-free cloth. To remove dirt and fingerprints, we recommend isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth. Dampen the cloth with alcohol first and then lightly clean the surface of the preamplifier with the cloth. Do not use excessive amounts of alcohol that might drip off the cloth and into the preamplifier.

Le CP-700 propose ainsi un nombre de réglages qui nécessiterait sans cet écran des douzaines de touches et boutons sur la façade. Malgré sa puissance et ses nombreuses possibilités, il reste d’utilisation simple et intuitive au quotidien.

MUTE MENU CP-700 � �� � FRANÇAIS �� Face avant 1.
Touche Menu Une pression sur la touche Menu de la face avant appelle le menu principal (Main menu), qui remplace le menu de fonctionnement normal et le statut du fonctionnement en cours dans l’écran tactile LCD. 3. Écran tactile LCD La plupart de vos interventions sur le CP-700 se feront par l’intermédiaire de cet écran tactile LCD (et la télécommande du CP-700). Il affiche notamment les touches de sélection des entrées utilisées quotidiennement, ainsi que l’accès au bouton Tape (enregistrement).
En plus de recevoir des signaux IR, le CP-700 peut également transmettre des commandes IR après qu’elles ont été apprises depuis des télécommandes universelles. Le CP-700 utilise une liste de commandes infrarouge uniques, pour faciliter la création de macrocommandes fiables.
FRANÇAIS Face arrière 1. Entrée Tape (enregistreur) Branchez les sorties analogiques de n’importe quel type d’enregistreur (magnétophone analogique, enregistreur numérique, graveur de CD, etc.), avec prises asymétriques RCA. Pour entendre le programme lu à partir de cet enregistreur, appuyez sur la touche tape monitor sur l’écran tactile du CP-700. 2.
Le câblage des broches de l’entrée femelle XLR est le suivant : Broche (pin) 1 : masse du signal Broche 2 : signal + (non inversé) Broche 3 : signal – (inversé) Masse externe de la prise : masse du châssis. Ce brochage correspond à la norme officielle adoptée par l’Audio Engineering Society (AES14-1992). FRANÇAIS Reportez-vous aux manuels d’utilisation de vos sources à sorties symétriques pour vérifier le bon câblage de leurs propres prises, par rapport à celles du CP-700.
Les liaisons audio symétriques ont été développées à l’origine dans le monde professionnel, pour préserver les nuances les plus délicates des signaux extrêmement faibles fournis par les microphones. Depuis plusieurs années maintenant, ce type de liaison s’est généralisé aux appareils Hautefidélité haut de gamme développés par les plus grands constructeurs, comme Classé, afin de vous permettre, à vous aussi, de profiter des plus fines nuances de vos enregistrements préférés.
Prises de commande Classé CAN Bus Ces prises type RJ-45 sont prévues pour de futures applications de commande et de télécommunication, utilisant les spécifications du système de réseau de commande développé par Classé « Controller Area Network », ou CAN. 9. Entrée et sortie infrarouge (IR) Votre préamplificateur Classé possède deux prises type mini-jacks mono 3,5 mm destinées à transmettre les commandes infrarouge (IR) utilisées désormais par toutes les télécommandes.
10. Entrée et sortie de commutation type DC Trigger De nombreux maillons audio/vidéo peuvent fournir une tension continue pour commander un maillon associé. Votre préamplificateur Classé sait tirer parti de cette possibilité pour passer de son état de veille Standby à son état de fonctionnement normal automatiquement, par exemple simultanément à l’allumage d’un préamplificateur audio/vidéo.
La télécommande ������� ����� ���� ������� � Votre nouveau préamplificateur est livré avec une télécommande pouvant piloter le CP-700 lui-même, mais aussi plusieurs autres fonctions d’un système complet Classé. Ses touches sont arrangées en groupes logiques, par rapport aux fonctions télécommandées. 1. ��� ���������� ���� FRANÇAIS � Fonctions de base Il s’agit des quatre touches placées en haut de la télécommande, destinées à commander les interactions basiques avec le CP-700.
FRANÇAIS • La touche Bal (balance) permet d’afficher directement le menu Balance sur l’écran ; cela fait, vous pouvez utiliser les touches de navigation ou les deux touches gauche et droite sur l’écran LCD pour modifier la balance. Utilisez ensuite la touche Enter de la télécommande ou « pressez » la touche appropriée sur l’écran pour entériner votre réglage.
Le Système des Menus Votre CP-700 possède un écran tactile LCD qui permet tout à la fois d’afficher de nombreuses informations, mais aussi d’accéder à un système par menus. Ce système est aussi simple à utiliser que sophistiqué dans le nombre des paramètres qu’il autorise. Ce chapitre vous indique les nombreuses possibilités permises par ce système des menus.
FRANÇAIS menu principal système (main) Une pression sur la touche Menu de la face avant, placée à gauche de l’écran tactile LCD, entraîne l’affichage du menu principal du système, dont les deux premières pages sont illustrées ci-dessus. Ce menu vous donne accès aux caractéristiques particulières de l’installation, ce qui vous permet de personnaliser le CP-700 par rapport au contexte particulier de votre installation.
volume Une pression sur cette touche volume permet d’accéder au menu de réglage de la fonction volume, lui-même décomposé en quatre sous-menus, concernant la manière dont est paramétré précisément le réglage de volume. • bouton rotatif • volume maximum (max volume) • volume au démarrage (startup volume) • réglage de la coupure du son mute Chacun de ces paramètres est expliqué ci-dessous en détail. FRANÇAIS bouton rotatif Le bouton rotatif de la face avant ne commande pas directement le volume.
FRANÇAIS Le facteur le plus important dans la perception du fonctionnement du bouton de volume concerne la vitesse (speed) à laquelle le bouton doit être tourné. Nous avons tous tendance à imprimer un mouvement plus énergique et rapide quand nous désirons modifier rapidement le niveau sonore, et à manipuler le bouton plus lentement dès que l’on approche du volume sonore désiré. Le bouton du CP-700 est capable d’analyser et d’interpréter ces mouvements, son circuit accélérant l’action voulue.
FRANÇAIS • variation moyenne (medium speed) : détermine la réactivité du contrôle lorsque le bouton est tourné à vitesse moyenne. La valeur 0 permet au volume d’être modifié le plus lentement possible quand on tourne le bouton à vitesse moyenne. La valeur 100 permet la variation de volume la plus rapide, toujours en tournant le bouton à vitesse moyenne. (L’aspect du menu est identique au précédent, hormis bien sûr son titre.
réglage coupure du son Presser la touche mute setup vous permet de sélectionner un des trois modes de (mute) coupure du son (mute) disponibles : FRANÇAIS • Classic entraîne la coupure totale du son dès que vous pressez la touche correspondante. Plus aucun son ne se fait entendre. • Specific vous permet de déterminer un volume sonore précis, utilisé dès l’activation de la fonction mute, et ce quel que soit le réglage de volume précédemment utilisé.
Attention ! FRANÇAIS • La touche t réagit comme la touche de retour en arrière du clavier d’un ordinateur, déplaçant le curseur vers la gauche et éliminant éventuellement le caractère qui s’y trouvait. • La touche u déplace le curseur vers la droite, ajoutant un caractère au passage (Vous modifiez les caractères désirés en utilisant les touches + et –.) • Les touches + et – modifie le caractère en cours à partir de tous les caractères disponibles.
gain Phono FRANÇAIS Le menu gain Phono (phono gain) n’est actif que si le module optionnel Phono (phono module) est installé ; dans le cas contraire, il reste grisé. Lorsqu’il est installé, le CP-700 le reconnaît automatiquement, renomme l’entrée « line 1 » en « phono », et active cette entrée dans le menu principal.
réglage de l’afficheur (display setup) FRANÇAIS Cette touche vous amène sur l’écran de réglage de l’afficheur (display setup). Il vous permet de régler la luminosité de l’écran tactile LCD du CP-700, sa durée d’affichage (timeout) et la langue (language) utilisée pour les informations diffusées par l’écran et le système des menus. luminosité Le réglage de luminosité (brightness) du CP-700 prend trois valeurs possibles : faible (low), moyenne (medium) et élevée (high).
Si vous préférez que l’écran reste toujours allumé tant que l’appareil n’est pas placé en mode de veille standby, choisissez la position « jamais » (never). La lampe utilisée pour le rétroéclairage a été conçue pour fonctionner dans les conditions les plus rudes, et vous donnera des années de fonctionnement sans souci. Mais si vous décidez de laisser en permanence l’appareil allumé, nous vous recommandons toutefois d’utiliser un délai avant extinction compris entre une et deux minutes.
Par exemple, si vous utilisez fréquemment la commande de balance, vous pouvez programmer une de ces touches Fkeys comme contrôle de balance. De cette manière, vous n’avez plus à accéder au menu de contrôle, suivi par une pression sur la touche balance (ce qui n’est pas aisé lorsqu’on se trouve à l’autre bout de la pièce). Le menu remote Fkeys présente quatre touches, une pour chaque touche physique Fkey de votre télécommande.
statut de fonctionnement (status) FRANÇAIS L’écran statut (status) fournit plusieurs informations sur le fonctionnement courant du CP-700, et permet d’accéder à toutes les informations concernant le programme de gestion utilisé ainsi que sur les capteurs internes du CP-700. info version La touche version info affiche l’écran information sur la version, précisant les différents éléments du programme de gestion (software) utilisé par le CP-700.
Problèmes de fonctionnement En règle générale, en cas de problème, contactez immédiatement votre revendeur agréé Classé. Mais, avant de contacter celui-ci, vérifiez que votre problème ne soit pas répertorié ci-dessous. Assurez-vous d’éteindre l’amplificateur de puissance avant de vérifier quelque connexion que ce soit, notamment entre le préamplificateur et l’amplificateur de puissance, ou entre ce dernier et les enceintes acoustiques. Seule une enceinte acoustique semble fonctionner. • Vérifiez le réglage de balance du CP-700 en pressant la touche Menu, suivie de la touche Balance (ou pressez simplement Bal sur la télécommande).
Il y a un bruit mécanique en provenance de l’appareil. • Ce symptôme sous-entend que vous avez un problème de parasite directement sur la ligne d’alimentation secteur. Essayez d’utiliser une autre ligne secteur dans votre habitation (pas seulement une autre prise murale ; une autre ligne d’alimentation).
Entretien FRANÇAIS entretien du coffret Pour ôter la poussière du coffret de votre préamplificateur, utilisez un plumeau ou un chiffon très doux et non pelucheux. Pour retirer la saleté incrustée ou des traces de doigts, nous recommandons de l’alcool isopropyle et un chiffon doux. Imbibez tout d’abord très légèrement le chiffon d’alcool, puis frottez doucement la surface du préamplificateur. N’utilisez jamais de trop grandes quantités d’alcool, susceptible d’entrer à l’intérieur de l’appareil.
