SPECIAL STITCHES
K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together. Insert
the right needle into two stitches
at the same time and Knit. This will
result in a decrease of one stitch.
M1 = Make 1 (Increase). Lift strand
between needles to left-hand needle
and knit strand through the back
loop, twisting it to prevent a hole.
Sl 1 = Slip 1 stitch.
EARFLAPS (Make 2)
Using A, and smaller size Circular
Knitting Needles, cast on 10 sts.
Row 1 (Right Side): Sl 1, m1, knit
to last st, m1, k1 — 12 sts.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): Sl
1, purl across row.
Repeat Rows 1-2 until there are
20 sts, ending on Row 2. Cut yarn
and place first Earflap (20 sts) on
Stitch Holder and set aside.
Make second Earflap in same manner
but do not cut yarn, place second
Earflap on Stitch Holder and set aside.
HAT
Joining Earflaps to Edge
Using A, smaller size Circular Knitting
Needles, and using “knit on” method,
cast on 20 (25, 30) stitches. Turn
work and purl across first Earflap (20
stitches). Turn work and cast on another
20 (25, 30) stitches, being careful not
to twist stitches. Join last stitch to first
stitch by holding yarn in front, slipping
first stitch of second Earflap from right
needle to left, passing yarn to the back
between the needles, then slipping
that stitch back to right needle (first
stitch wrapped)—80 (90,100) stitches.
Place Stitch Marker to mark beginning
of round and slip first stitch to Left-
Hand needle to join, and begin
working in the round (knit every
round) until hat measures 4 (5, 6)"
[10 (13, 15) cm] from cast on edge.
